Ellen Ripley – Aliens

I have watched Aliens at least 50 times, and it is still my absolute favourite of all the Alien movies.

And a huge part of that is Ellen Ripley.

What I love about her is that she isn't fearless. She knows exactly what those creatures are capable of. She is terrified of them, traumatised by what happened before, and has every reason in the world to stay as far away from them as possible.

And then Newt is taken.

Ripley doesn't suddenly stop being afraid. She simply decides that leaving that little girl behind is not an option. So she arms herself and walks straight back into the nightmare she barely survived the first time.

That, to me, is courage. Not having no fear, but being scared shitless and doing it anyway.

And then, of course...

“Get away from her, you bitch!”

50+ viewings and that scene still kicks ass.
