This week I spotted an incorrectly defined word in one of my granddaughter's English drills. I spend a lot of time explaining incorrectly explained principles and unidentified words while we do her lessons.
The word this time was ill-defined at best. Conflated at worst.
The word sincere does not mean true, but rather is meant to show intent toward perceived truth or honesty. It is language based in feeling, not in action.
Truth is definitive and sincerity is fluid, more of a concept.

It is a good thing you are there to catch all this. They should be more careful with their facts.

Busy last couple of day but hopefully productive. I have been doing number, alphabet, and phoneme exercises with the kid every day in order to prepare her for a test at the end of the month. She has been a trooper and in addition to all that work, we have gotten everything done between noon and 4 every day; with breaks! At least one break of a half hour! Yes!

This weekend started with going to a very popular hotdog restaurant in my area.
It was weird because I was expecting "Subway, but with hotdogs", it was not that.
It was simplicity at it's finest and I thought it was really funny.
The hotdog chili was fresh and the coleslaw was sweet not pickled, this is a nice change of pace. The also sold fresh cookies, which are made offsite by a private citizen. They were good.
We probably won't be back but it was interesting.
Did the regular weekend thing, shopping for supplies of various kinds: school, animals, foods.
Stopped in at the neighborhood antique store for a browse and found an old copy of The Brave Little Tailor and an old Little Golden Book titled How to Tell Time.
We read The Brave Little Tailor last night and she loved it.
The husband found a 100 year old tandem bicycle in need of restoration.
We were weighing whether it will be a lawn ornament or he will try to repair it, when my daughter showed up and the little kid wanted to ride it "right now".
I guess it will be repaired so they can ride it together, haha.
Ended the night with a small family grill out, kid here a night early so mom can get sleep before working graveyard shift. Sometimes my husband feels bad that my daughter treats the kid like a burden but I am glad we are here to pick up the slack.

I ended up playing Horizon Zero Dawn for a bit and then when walking the dogs in my yard , I found a shady spot in the grass and lay down to look at the sky. It was clear and blue, the dogs relaxed in the grass nearby, grankid's favorite outdoor cat (Gracie's Best Friend) came over to say hello and get a belly scratch before moving on his way.
Overall the day was a refreshing break from the last few weeks of "move move move".

Yesterday was a good day.
Lessons ran longer than I hoped but they were productive. Little kid had zero meltdowns and did not fight or drag feet about any of it. Some of it was tedious and some of it was untruths.
Science defined data as words, symbols, pictures; I told her data is information collected through research and observation. Then I explained what that meant.
Why complicate stuff?
She has a reading class available, not mandatory, it teaches empathy. What the fuck? Why?
We aren't doing that.
Internet safety course, I read it and told her she will learn Internet safety from me and her mom. A kindergartener does not need to be knowing that stuff because there is no reason for a child of 5 to be using the Internet unsupervised, literally no reason for her to be using email or having a social media presence, none.
Another thing she got from science, this was brilliant, apparently animals do not need sunshine and plants do not need food. She grows plants and raises chickens. She knows that is not true.

She went home, on schedule. The last three weeks have been tumultuous because of changes in our schedule, some planned and some not. I am looking forward to a day of relaxing. Maybe I will play video games, maybe I will lay face down in the grass and ponder meaning. I do not know and I do not care. The day is mine!

Yesterday was a nice lay back day. Grandkid's online school had a free study day. After tending the ducks and chickens, making breakfast, watching the weather, and seeing her Pa off to work; we spent the day drilling.
Alphabet
Writing
Sounding out words

I know by 3:30 her brain was mush, so we watched her favorite shows and just relaxed in the afternoon.

It wasn't all roses. I know the world goes on around us when we aren't watching. I watch events beyond my sphere of control and the behavior of the people in response to those events. I am never surprised because people will people, chickens will chicken, cats will cat.

At 8pm we read bedtime stories, I have been having her read a page a night from an old reading primer. It has been rough going. Last night, she sounded out all of the words that were 3 letters long and under.

This morning, things have been quiet.
Walked the dogs and they were calm.
The ducks were sleeping peacefully and clucked quietly at us as we passed.
The chickens showed no stress at all. No agitation, no clucking, even the crowing was at a minimum.
It was just nice.
