Sitting here in the classroom working on a resume and I can't seem to focus. *sigh* Today must be my day to feel like i need to apologize for any and everything even if it isn't my fault. I guess it is just out of habit for apologizing for so many years growing up as an abused and overly confused child.

who knows? Maybe I just really do piss people off like I think after all.

I guess some things never change....

Military Posing Beside Casket

21:39 Dec 15 2011
Times Read: 701

I wasn't really looking for anything in particular today when I was browsing through the news, but when I came across this I can understand why so many people are up in arms and mad about it. I know that I am. I have had members of my family in the military, but none have passed during war times. Here is the piece that I came across. I couldn't include the picture, but I will include the website.

The commander of the 37th Training Group at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, has launched an investigation into a photo of 15 airmen posing with an open casket, in which another airman is posed with a noose around his neck and chains across his body.

“Da Dumpt, Da Dumpt …. Sucks 2 Be U” is written under the photo, which was emailed to Air Force Times.

In the picture, tech sergeants and staff sergeants stand with junior airmen surrounding the metallic casket, similar to those used to carry war dead home to the U.S.

The purpose of the photo, its inscription and its intended audience are not known. It surfaced one month after the public disclosure that the Air Force’s Port Mortuary at Dover Air Force Base, Del., had lost and mishandled the remains of hundreds of fallen troops.

Air Force Secretary Michael Donley expressed regret Tuesday night that the photo might cause more turmoil for families of fallen troops.

“We take this matter seriously. [Air Education and Training Command] has initiated a commander directed investigation,” Donley said in a statement to Air Force Times. “Such behavior is not consistent with our core values, and it is not representative of the Airmen I know. It saddens me that this may cause additional grief to the families of our fallen warriors.”

The photo was taken by airmen with the 345th Training Squadron at Fort Lee, Va., said Gerry Proctor, spokesman for the 37th Training Group, which includes the 345th Training Squadron.

The photo is dated Aug. 23 — more than two months before the Dover story broke — and appears with a logo reading “All American Port Dawgs” in the upper left corner. “Port Dog” is a nickname for aerial porters; it comes from an aerial port unit coin circulated in the early 1990s.

Whatever its intended purpose was, it proved offensive to at least one soldier with the 82nd Airborne Division.

“I cannot help but picture the faces of my dead [soldiers] that we drug out of burning vehicles, dug out from collapsed buildings,” Staff Sgt. Elias Bonilla wrote in an email to Air Force Times.

Bonilla said the photo, together with the Dover revelations, made him worry that he could not trust the Air Force with transporting the remains of his men, especially because the photo included noncommissioned officers.

“I cannot understand the behaviors of the United States Air Force,” he wrote. “I refuse to accept that military personnel could be so far removed from their own identity as a military unit to permit such disgraceful conduct.”

Bonilla emailed the photo to Air Force Times after receiving it from a former soldier and Army spouse who asked not to be named because of concerns about the spouse’s career.

The image had appeared on Facebook in early October, the former soldier said, because a friend had been tagged in the photo. When the friend was questioned about the image, the former soldier said, the concerns were “laughed off.” The former soldier began emailing the photo to other friends, and it was then forwarded to Air Force Times on Monday.

The investigation was launched after Air Force Times sent the photo to Air Education and Training Command seeking comment. A request for comment from Air Force officials at the Pentagon was referred to AETC.

David Smith, spokesman for AETC at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, said that the training group’s commander, Col. Gregory Reese, was “obviously displeased” but that he could not comment further on the photo until an investigation could be completed.

The investigation should take one to two weeks, Smith said.

Air Transportation tech school is a 29-day class during which airmen learn about loading and unloading aircraft and inspecting travel documentation for passengers, according to an Air Force website. The 345th Training Squadron is made up of the services and transportation schoolhouses, which includes the Air Transportation Apprentice Course.

Although the details of the photo are under investigation, a statement from 37th Training Group said transfer cases like the ones used to deliver the remains of fallen airmen are present at Air Transportation tech school.

While students do not practice dignified transfers — the process of moving fallen service members from the battlefield back to the states — the metal case is kept on hand.

“The transfer case is part of the equipment at the schoolhouse and is to ensure students recognize what a transfer case is to ensure it is treated with dignity and respect when it is in use, and protected in accordance with procedure when it is empty,” the statement said.

In the photo, most of the airmen standing around the transfer case are holding their arms up in the form of an “X,” the signal used on the cargo lines for “stop.” A similar hand motion is used for “cargo load secured,” according to an Air Force instruction. Cargo loaders must often communicate with hand and arm signals because they work in noisy areas.

The former soldier, who asked not to be named because her husband is still on active duty, said she was “immediately appalled” by the photo, and particularly concerned that NCOs were in the photo.

“The military is big as a whole, and when you have leaders at a lower level not doing what they are supposed to be doing, it makes [senior leadership] look bad,” she said.

Jobs

21:58 Dec 14 2011
Times Read: 706

I am past the point of even looking for jobs anymore. It would be one thing if I could find one, but unfortunately I can't. The ones i apply to send back a response of "Unfortunately, we are unable to consider your application at this time." How am I supposed to survive?! If you don't want certain people to apply maybe then the application should say looking for such and such candidate at the time. At this point I could care less if my current home was under a nearby bridge or on the street. I have had it with trying. Patience is a virtue does not seem to work in my favor as of late. No wonder so many people are going around this country hopeless. Without any kind of hope what else is there?

NJ Soldier's Remains Among Those Dumped in Virginia Landfill

21:38 Dec 12 2011
Times Read: 710

who gives the military or whoever to do this to dead soldiers?! you have to read this to believe it. tihs is so wrong, disgusting and just down right...i can't even think of a word, but this is what happens to our soldiers?!?

After a New Jersey woman's inquiries into what happened to her soldier husband's body parts led to a massive exposure of the Air Force's practice of dumping soldier remains in a landfill, she is now pressing for more answersA Washington Post investigation revealed that the Air Force had dumped the remains of 274 service members into a Virginia landfill over a number of years. Gari Lynn Smith of Frenchtown, N.J., wants to know how that could happen to the U.S. troops who sacrificed their lives for the country.

Her husband was one of those soldiers whose remains were dumped.

Sgt. First Class Scott Smith was killed by a roadside bomb in 2006. Gari Lynn Smith still tears up when she thinks about what she misses most about him.

"His smile," she told NBC New York Thursday. "He was just such a good person. And he didn't deserve this."

She knew his entire body wasn't in the casket they buried, so she started asking questions.

"When I started inquiring about what happened to the additional remains, I figured that maybe they buried them in Arlington Cemetery," Gari Lynn Smith said. "So I started questioning, and they had a gentleman on the phone tell me no one wanted my husband so they cremated him with the rest of the medical waste and threw him in the trash."

The Air Force admitted this week that it dumped the partial remains of not just Sgt. Smith, but 273 other service members -- far greater than the number initially disclosed to the Washington Post a month ago.

New Jersey Rep. Rush Holt was alerted to the problem by Gari Lynn Smith. Together, they've been trying to get answers, which they believe the Air Force never intended to give.

"It is such an obvious, flagrant desecration," said Holt. "If they did know it, they didn't want to know it."

For his part, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said he was comfortable with the way the Air Force has handled the matter.

But when asked why the partial remains were considered waste, Air Force officials had no answer.

Apologies will be given to the 274 families involved, but only if they call.

For Gari Lynn Smith, an apology may not be enough.

"They have one job," said Gari Lynn Smith. "They have one major job down there, and it's probably the most important job in this world. It's to honor and care for these heroes who are coming back, and it is an epic fail."

I try my hardest not to really rant because at times i get so frustrated that i don't make any sense. After today though i have to step up to my soap box and say what is bothering me.

Animals are here on earth for a reason. Not to mistreat, not to abuse and sure as hell not to just turn loose out on the streets when you got tired of them like an unwanted toy. As i was walking on the back road to school i noticed a golden retriever mix was following me from a distance. I stopped talked to her, tried to whistle at her to get her to come closer and i even got in the mud on my knees dropping my school books to get her to come as close as possible so i could make sure she was okay. As soon as i did all of the above she ran off. I got up and kept on walking to notice again that she was following me.

It truly breaks my heart to know that 1. she didnt have a collor or tag (that i could see from a distance) 2. she was skinny (extremely) 3. she was skittish (even of those wanting to help) 4. someone disn't love her enough to want to keep her.

People really... If you have a dog keep them close and in a fenced in yard. They are wonderful creatures. If you tire of them try a rescue or a humane shelter. Don't mistreat them just because.

So on that note i think i will step down because i am beginning to lose where i was headed with this....

Politics.... what a waste

22:56 Dec 07 2011
Times Read: 725

I don't usually keep up with politics that often anymore, but here lately you can't seem to steer away from it. Sadly there is 1 man that has ratings through the roof after he made a few bigoted statements. I am 1 of those "ghetto food stamp" (paraphrasing of course) people he mentioned. I really didn't appreciate it. I apologize that currently I am on food stamps due to the loss of my job, but at least I am in school trying to better myself so I can get away from my current conditions. I am attempting to make things right & better for myself, but to have a moron such as Gingrich say what he did makes me see nothing but red. Sure there is probably people out there enjoy living off of welfare, food stamps etc, but don't sterotype just because a percentage likes to sit on their rears & watch it get bigger by the second. Now I remember why I bypass bothering with watching or talking about politics......

I have been taking a new course in school called Strategies 4 Success. Apparently it is a way to help you take the negative outlook on life, towards life & of yourself to make it all into a positive. At first i thought it was all a line of crap because it is basically tearing down the defenses you know & rebuilding them to something different. Sure at first you are wondering "why am i being tortured?!" but as you go along amazingly it does work. The more i stay positive the less strenuous life seems to be. Now the biggest obstacle of all is trying to get my husband to see what i am talking about & try it out. Unfortunately though...so far it's him 1 & me 0. >.

Horse meat to consume in the US soon?

22:12 Dec 01 2011
Times Read: 735

I was reading an article yesterday (http://news.yahoo.com/horses-could-soon-slaughtered-meat-us-080907323.html and http://www.inquisitr.com/163988/us-horse-slaughter-ban-lifted-2011/ ) and personally I find it disturbing. Granted i am a meat eater, but I have either hunted for my food or I usually buy from a local butcher. Yes, i eat angus, beefalo etc, but at least cows are raised to provide us with milk as well as meat. When i see a horse i think of horseback riding, animals to help plough fields, therapy horses for disabled children & adults. This is my opinion only, but eating horse meat just doesn't appeal to me. Nor is it a meat i am willing to try because it just seems wrong on way to many levels. Wild horses such as mustangs are alerady becoming if not already scarce, so what are we trying to do? Wipe out what is left & be rid of horses all together for other things? It's cruel enough that horses here are shipped overseas, horses are neglected due to improper care & some are just killed for the sake of killing them. I kow i am ranting & i probably do not make any sesne but when the slaughter houses open in 30-90 days & the meat goes out on the market they can count me out as a consumer. I will be 1 person that definitely makes sure it is never in my home.
