The innocense of youth...Verses Religion.

A conversation with one of our 14 year olds, regarding religion. I want to show you, how we give the kids, different ways of looking at things. First a conversation between me and her....

Kitsuna : This is what I tried to do. I decided to give this Jesus guy a chance... everyone at the adventist bible camp was so happy. Lalalala... whatever. They said Jesus could change any situation you were in and make it good. At least... if you've learned the things he's wanted you to learn. So, I decided to pray... I hadn't done it for years... I asked him to give me a glimmer of hope when I got home in the relationship with my grandma that he either existed and wanted to help, existed and didn't give a care, or didn't exist and didn't care.

I foudn out it was the last one.

Jayme : ok here is the problem. You want to believe that there is an all knowning god that is going to change your life, by simply praying to him....but haven't I told you before...that life is full of learning about things, including disappointments

Kitsuna : I jsut needed a little glimmer... the tinest thing.

Jayme : I know hon. But think about it...all the hope and change that you have had in your life....isn't from something I did...or LordV or HG.....its all been something you did...a decision you made

Did you ever think that maybe part of God's road, is to be able to stand on your own....to not expect help

Kitsuna : No, I didn't... but that makes sense.

Jayme : You can have the most religious person in the world....

but if everything is going great in their life, why are they so religious, why are they still praying for this and that.If he gives it to everyone, grants wishes....how would anyone learn

Kitsuna : Even the smallest thing though?

Kitsuna : It makes compleate sense, it really does... but why wouldn't he want to give a little glimmer that he's watching?

Jayme : I don't know. True believers just feel him in their heart and soul. They feel he is watching, even if they don't get a prayer answered. Blind faith.

Kitsuna : *sigh* The whole religios thing... so complicated lol

Jayme : yes it is...the truth of the matter, you are searching for what to believe....

Jayme : I was brought up believing that there was a god

Jayme : For awhile, I blamed god for my terrible existance

Jayme : i finally learned, one of the things he tries to teach you...

Jayme : you need to depend on yourself and each other, to get through this life. Hence why he might not say anything, when you turn to him

Kitsuna : Hmmm.... the fox understands what the owl is saying.

Same Question with LordV....

LordV: there is an old country saying that applies to this

Kitsuna: loves country sayings

LordV: Shit in one hand, want in the other; and see which hand fills up first.

Kitsuna: True

Kitsuna: *falls over laughing*

LordV: there is one key word that makes religion work ....

Kitsuna: Dont say money... Lmao

LordV: no ... it's faith

Kitsuna: Yeah.... i guess it all comes down to what you choose to believe

LordV: nah ... that's the point ... it's not a choice

LordV: religion is just following something blindly

LordV: look at your situation

LordV: if you do nothing, say nothing, change nothing ... and nothing happens; is it because God doesn't want anything to change ... or is it because you choose to do nothing?

Kitsuna: The later makes sense. lol

LordV: if you do everything, say anything, change something ... and nothing happens; is it because God doesn't want it to change?

Kitsuna: I'm surrounded by smart people that make sense.

LordV: there are those who believe ... who have the faith ... who royally piss me off. They are the ones who sit there, do absolutely nothing - and believe that God will take care of them. And if he doesn't ... well, that's just God's will

LordV: worse yet are the ones who do nothing but pray ... and then complain that God never answers them but again ... they follow blindly. They have a faith - that God and his miracle son will take care of them

my problem is .. I'm too intelligent for faith

Kitsuna: Yeah.... you have to make the initiative to change.

LordV: I can't follow blindly

Kitsuna: lol

LordV: I don't look at the sky and accept that it is blue because God made it so ... I question, "why is the sky blue" ... and by god ... faithers don't like questions

Kitsuna: Thats sorta what I was saying to myself a little while ago... I base most of my desicions off of fact... I can't really go with my gut unless I have some solid ground to step on.

LordV: you can always go with your gut ... because it is more real than the imaginary, omnipotent guy that everybody talks to

LordV: look at it this way ...

LordV: religious leaders want you to believe there is a God ... and invisible being that sits in the heavens, looks over everything, and you are encouraged to talk to him on a daily basis. This is normal ... this is sane.

LordV: Why is it that when he actually talks back ... you must be crazy and insane?

LordV: religion is all about faith ... and the only way you can find spiritual guidance to find a faith that you can believe in. Even an Athiest is devouted to their religion. You can say that they have no God ... and they are really committed to it

Kitsuna: I've heard something like that before.

LordV: Of course it is difficult for spiritual exploration for a person attending a Catholic school

Kitsuna: Lol. attending a Catholic Home, Adventist school.

LordV: most adolescents go through a period of questioning their faith. some follow blindly (that's just what you're suppose to do); some explore; some just go athiest - until later in life when faith finds them

I was brought up a Methodist, LordV a Pagan. Two different ways of believing in things, but we tried to give her different ways of looking at things. I hope it helped.
