As the other dancers flood past, she's anchored in awe by the vastness of the arena. Her heart begins its usual flutter. This is her biggest opportunity yet, maybe ever, but she'll take anything to get her name and talent to the masses. She's not performing solo, as she is accustomed to. This is an exceptional event, the entertainers were carefully handpicked from all over the continent, and she was just lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time, another experience she didn't have often. This party is so exclusive those who didn't have an invitation were selling their souls for a chance to possess one.
Okay here we go...
She was sprinting down the unkempt path, entire body alert, heart close to bursting. She glanced over her shoulder to make sure she was out of their sights. A mistake...eyes back on the rock and leaf covered trail, one second too late. She stumbles over the gnarly root of a tree, her body crashes into the cold dirt. With lungs aching, and sweat pouring over her, she wipes the blood and tears from her face. Gizele pushes herself to keep going...
Her ears prick at every bird leaping off a branch, or meek doe snapping a twig underfoot. Her legs are close to useless, about to give beneath her, but she refuses to yield knowing what will happen if she stops. They are much faster than she is, built stronger, made for hunting....
And then...
She almost misses it, a sanctuary, a small cave just big enough for her to squeeze into. She makes a dash for it, risky, but there's not other option, they've gained too much ground. Hidden away by the ivy guarding the opening, she realizes just how much she's strained her body, she struggles to steady her breathing, unable to do much else. As they pass by not so quietly, rustling the leaves, scavenging for a trace of her scent, she can't take her eyes off the sight of them. She crouches there waiting, praying under her breath that they pass on.
