I have always been really interested in entomology. I find insects really fascinating. They are wonderfully evolved little machines, adapting to almost every environment on earth. To me, they evoke a pure dense of life.
In July I picked up a book on beekeeping, and I couldn't put it down. It's definitely something I'm interested in pursuing in the future. As with keeping fish, you are managing and manipulating an entire ecosystem. There is science behind everything you do.
Ideally, I'd like to work closely with an experienced beekeeper for a few seasons before acquiring my own bees. I might look into it over the course of this winter, so that I'd be able to start shadowing a beekeeper this spring when the active season starts.
Obviously, it will be a long time before I can even start to consider beekeeping on my own. You can keep bees practically anywhere, but I don't think most landlords would be too thrilled at the prospect.

How often do you get to say " before acquiring my own bees" in a serious and business like manner.
