Mashing clay

This is the year I've been dabbling in sculpting and casting, next year I plan to offer a lot more of those kinds of items and will be spending the winter conceptualizing and creating. I am having so much fun. Creating this way takes time (at least until I get better at blocking out designs quickly) but the finished result doesn't have to be the only attempt you make, so there's no reason to put huge amounts of pressure on yourself.

A few months back I made one design and cast it in resin only to find numerous fit issues, especially around the eyes. I had already cleaned the bust off to start a new project so at first my husband thought I meant I would have to start all over if I wanted to make a couple adjustments. BUT, this is the part I love, I can melt down my clay to a liquid form, pour it back into the silicone mold, and then pop it out once it's cool, lay it on a bust, and adjust my clay copy without having to start all over. That's so much fun to me!

Since most of my projects are DIY with little to no instruction I make a lot of mistakes and I love this medium of art because it allows me to study those mistakes, learn from them, and adjust on the fly rather than feeling defeated at the prospect of starting over. Sometimes I wish I had an instructor and I think I'll seek one eventually but for now I'm enjoying being a beginner and getting to know the clay. LOL just typing that out reminds me of how green I am at this!

That's awesome! I LOVE taking on new crafty things and learning new forms of media. I've dabbled in clay but only things like small charms and such, nothing to the extent you are speaking of... just simple little Sculpy stuff. Yours sounds amazing! I need a proper craft room for all of my different hobbies to be stored and to have a space to do bigger type projects. I would love to see some of the things you have been making with the clay! I bet they are amazing!
