No Sir. This will not explain the BDSM lifestyle or the O/ones that are true to the lifestyle. I do not see the lifestyle as torture because it is about pleasures, the willingness to give up control, willing submissiveness and even though some involved like pain and "torture" it is still all willing. So this is different than what I feel this quote speaks of. It is those who truly want others to hurt and when the prey are unwilling participants that this quote can explain them. Such as those that repeat the cycle of abuse.
