VOLCANO AUTHORITY MT. ST. HELENS, WASHINGTON
SEVEN INSTRUCTIONS TO RESIDENTS IN CASE OF VOLCANIC ERUPTION
UPON THE FIRST SEISMIC TREMORS:
1. Move to an area upwind from crater to avoid ashfall and dangerous gases.
2. Avoid riverbeds and other valleys, which are likely bo be in the path of mudflows.
3. Locate an area of good visibility so that you can dodge flying lava rocks.
4 Do not locate downstream from dams or reservoirs as they are unlikely to withstand the severe forces of
flooding and mudslides.
5. When reports of "Harmonic Tremors" are received, expect a major eruption at any moment.
6. Immediately upon observing the brilliant flash of molten lava exploding from the volcano, bend over and place your
head firmly between your legs.
7. Then kiss your ash goodbye.

Not to burst your bubble but there was no lava from that one. I was there and remember it quite well..

Yeah you are right, but they are predicting it on the next event.

I lived in the San Fran Bay Area when the 85 -ish eruption, we collected ash on a few occasions.
I was under the impression that Helana Was a sub chamber vent, meaning the lava pressurized with gasses, they may have detected a vein emerging though.. that would likely produce projected heated rocks.

I lived in St. Helens Or. 80 miles from the mountain. Sat on my roof watching it blow up.. Was an awsome sight, one I will never forget. We were southwest of it and the majority of the ash went northwest. LOL I still have like 100 coffee cans of the ash somewhere.. I was just out there last month and don't remember anyone talking about the it "coming back to life".

I remember it too, we got a ton of ash from it and they closed down our schools. It was gray skies here for weeks.
