Disaster and Roger

I was so close. Today is my last day to spend up here at my mother's. She called this morning to say they were heading back home from the smokies. The weather had turned really bad friday when they had arrived and had thought of coming home. The weather people were forcasting up to fourteen inches of snow in the mountains. Usually once it starts snowing really bad, they close up the mountains. Cant get in or out and your basically stuck for a few days anyway. They made it safely to pidgeon forge and decided to stay there instead.

My mother's dogs are driving me nuts. Harley and Nicky arent the problem. the four dogs in the house bark if a snowflake flies the wrong way. Im ready to go home to my nice quiet cats who probably arent too thrilled with me at the moment. Although it was close to a month last time I left them to go on a vacation. Zeus tends to be the only one that acts out if im gone too long.

The tree was standing in the corner, all decorated up really pretty. The night before last I thought it was leaning. But every year my mother tends to get what we call a mamaw mick tree, My irish grandmother, a Murphy, married my german grandfather, He was a Mick. hence why i named my one cat Mickey. After my dad and grandfather. Anyway, My grandma Mick was a short stout woman. So the short, fat tree has always been called after her for that reason. Even though every year we tried for something different but always ends up with a short fat tree.

This year, being no different than the rest, The tree seemed to go straight and then lean at the top. Didnt notice too much until the other night. I looked at it critically and decided the tree was supposed to be that way. I found out last night though however, as i watched one of the dogs walk by it and it fell over. I thought it was just not going to be my luck to be able to go home with a spotless record. I rolled my eyes and called my brother in law Roger. As I was unable to lift and fix the tree all at the same time.

I have always liked Roger, Ginger could have done way worse. Hes kinda tall and skinny, with blond hair. He is a very hard worker and here lately seems to stay in a bad mood. My sister, on the other hand can be hard to live with. Must be a family trait. He came up and helped me to fix the tree. And complained about work, Christmas and every thing else. I smiled and told him he needs to have a sense of humor about things. I said as long as you can pay your bills and live decently, dont worry about everyone else at work. Just do your thing and go home. Eventually, with patience things will go your way. Just have a little bit of faith in yourself. He told me once again, I am way too much of an optimust. i said well, you have to be or else life will chew you up and spit you out if you cant be a little optimistic about things. I said I learned it the hard way. So in about five hours Im going home. gratefully, trust me...lol

Snow Dog

18:13 Dec 12 2010
Times Read: 593

I woke up this morning to find a dusting of snow on the ground and I warily eyed it. It was warmer yesterday and I was not all that thrilled about being out in the cold today. But, I had to do that necessary chore called "taking the dogs out" To those that dont know, my mother's house sits on eight acres of land, with trees and slightly rolling hill in the back. From the back of moms back porch you can see Eaton, ohio about a goodly fifteen miles away. When you look off to your left, there is a huge hill, not a mountain but it could pass for a small one. I always loved coming up here, the land changes from season to season as it all does, but I love looking over at the hill in the fall, with all the fall colors, maple and ash trees, and probaby a few I dont really know but love the colors all the same. In the spring, everything blooms at once, the red bud trees in the back and the grass is green again and the hill is alive once more.

Winters in Ohio are colder and seem so long. We havent had a blizzard since the year I turned eighteen back in 1978. I remember the cold and that endless white that covered everything. My one failing in life I have always found the good in somethings, no matter how bad the person or what ever was going on in my life. There could always be found something reedemable in my eyes. Yes, I hate the cold, and the snow and ice but its a beautiful landscape.

I was reminded again of how much I really do hate the cold while I dragged the dogs out one by one. I turned my attention to Nicky, the alaskan malamute my daughter Amanda owns.

She greeted me with yips and swishing of her tail beat time as I filled her water dish and food bowl, her fur smelled of the sweet hay they had given her to lay on to keep her warm. She really didnt need it as her fur was thick and luxiourious as I twined my fingers in her fur. She was warm, but her cold nose on my wrist made me shiver. She wanted to play as dogs do. Her front legs splayed out in front, as her rear was up in the air, her tail wagging fast and her wolf blue eyes filled with mischief, her pink tongue, hanging out of the side of her mouth looked to me as if she was laughing at me for being a big baby about the cold. I laughed as I called her to me and began to pat her all over and scratched her ears.

I took her outside and took her off the leash and let her run. She absoulutely loved it. she snuffled at the snow and would run here and there. She would run directly at me and then skid to a stop, just out of my reach. I didnt want to play. but after a while thought it couldnt hurt so I began to chase her, she seemed to have more fun at that. finally, out of breath, I called her to me and walked her back out to the garage. Nothing but a big ole' snow dog. you could tell the snow and cold changed her. I saw the joyousness of her stride in the snow and her blue eyes seemed to glow. She was now perfectly content. She looked at me as if to say, "wanna play again tomorrow?" her blue eyes danced as her tongue gave me that silly grin as if she were laughing. I smiled and scratched her ears. "will see" I promised, as I walked out the door and locked it and made for the warmness of the house.

Must Love Dogs!

19:57 Dec 11 2010
Times Read: 601

I came up here to my mother's house for five days, to take care of the house and baby sit the six dogs and one cat that live here. They are, Trixie and Milo, two minature pinschers, Bumper, a white and brown Jack Russell terrier who is blind and deaf, Lola, a copper minature cocker spaniel who belongs to my sister Sandy, A rottweiler/lab mix named Harley and Nicky, an alaskan malamute, those two belong to my oldest daughter Amanda. Sophie, a calico cat that rules the roost out in the garage.

Mom and Sandy and Amanda took off this morning for a five day vacation in the smokies. Mom needed to get away from it all I reckon.

so Im here until wednesday, using Sandy's worn out computer. There is enough here to keep me entertained and Im sure the aunts will check in on me from time to time. My internet has been shut off at my house, due to an argument between me and the cable company. They upped my rates without telling me. So coming the third next month im getting satellite, so everything will be back on.

My house is all decorated once again for christmas and im hoping for a little snow. I dont like the cold all that much but its nice to see snow on christmas at any rate.

Mom's house is a big old house that has sat on this land for more than sixty years or more. The land spreads out down to the Sipps family home which is about eight acres mom owns. The trees are black now that winter has came, the ground brown and hard. The rabbits and chipmunks and squirrels have all dug in for the winter it seems. while the coyote's hunt in the back acre, you can hear them howl mournfully, a few yips and barks drives the dogs here nuts. Harley is bunking down in the basement while its cold, Nicky is out in the garage with sophie and she's not real sure of the cat to begin with.

the four little dogs stay upstairs, sleeping in their corners on their beds or at night curled up at my feet while im trying to sleep. Its nice being here by myself at times. As much as my mom and I fight, I like coming home every now and then. who says you cant go home? lol
