I am an Asatru Woman and have followed this path for many years. I was lucky enough to be born into a Pagan household int he 60's. However back then you did not tell folks if you were different. I started following the Norse path in my 20's and have never looked back.

Being Asatru isn't always easy. There are many different Asatru paths and some of them not so cool. Actually these folks only claim to be Asatru but truly do not follow the way. Of these I am referring to those who hate other races and religions. I should need say no more.

Many Asatru (not all) upon dedicating themselves to the path swear their allegiance to the Norse Gods and none other. This does not mean that we do not respect other Gods form other pantheons. It simply means that we do not give worship to them.

Odin for one is a very jealous God and if you claim yourself to him then to him you will belong. Many people who dedicate themselves solely to Odin may find that they are thrust in hardships and adversity for a time. Dedicating yourself fully to Odin can be a difficult path to follow and is not for the faint of heart. If you give yourself to him, he will use you.

Odin has many Aspects. He is the sky God, the All Father, the warrior God and the Grey wonderer. He goes my many, many names depending on which aspect he is in. He is wise beyond all measure and is straight to the point. If you ask him to give you patience, he will give you situations that you must be patient with. If you ask him for courage he will give you situations that require courage and bravery. Nothing if for free with Odin.

He is the Master of the Runes which he got from sacrificing himself to himself on the tree of Ygg. He gave one of his eyes to the well of mimmir for knowledge and far seeing. To drink from Mimmir's well is to gain knowledge. He also is a master of Seidthr, this in another post) Which some say is womens magic. He learned this from Fryja in return for him teaching her the runes. His wife is Frigga who is as the earth mother

Last night I had a disturbing dream. There was a large parking garage filled with cars and people. I do not know how but the ceiling of the garage fell crushing all of the cars and killing everyone inside. No one survived. The authorities held one man responsible, however he had nothing to do with this issue. They beat him and forced him to go into the garage, which was falling apart and count the bodies.Also I could not see any of the faces of those who died. I can still see the fear in the innocent man's eyes as he goes down in to the pit.

At this point my cat jumped on the bed and bit me in the head so the dread was over. (stupid cat)

Yesterday my Medieval Group, A Time in History, celebrated 12th night. Usually it is celebrated a week earlier however due to scheduling conflicts we had to change it to a later time.

We celebrated it with the Viking Games. We had a normal tournament with sword fighting which is always a good time. After that we used combat arrows to hit targets that were set up on a board. We had several stuffed animals lined up and each represented a certain amount of points. However if you hit one of Odin's Wolves which were placed on both ends of the target, you got a negative 2.

After this we did drunken jousting where you spin around in a circle 10-15 times and then run at a jousting target.

The nights entertainment was my belly dance troupe which kept the crowd enthralled. Lots of good food and drink. Today my troupe performs at another event for a different Medieval group, The Adrian Empire.

Busy busy busy

It is an overcast day which suits my mood just fine. It has been a difficult few days with no particular reason behind it.

I started a lesson today with my son on the Nine Noble virtues of Asatru. We focused on honor and what that word means to him. It is interesting on what a 10 year old sees as honorable. Children are such visceral creatures. All emotion. Love, joy, rage. They are pure and untainted. I am lucky, I have a good son. Wise beyond his years. A true old soul. Don't get me wrong however, there are days when I would like to send that soul back where it came from. LOL

I have many projects going on right now. The most important is the Manuscript. I've had writers block for some time but I made an oath to the Gods that I would try my best to have it out by my birthday on summer solstice. Not much time.

I have a big event this Saturday..The Viking Games! I am looking forward to that. My Medieval group is having our first event of the year. I'm in charge of the whole thing. Many folks from my Asatru kindred will be there. Again...much to do and little time.

The rain fell last night. I like that. I miss the spring storms as does my young son. He gets that from me I suppose. We love to sit out during a storm watching the lightening,hearing the thunder. So much the better if it is at night. It lets me know the Gods are near.

Storms energize me, make me tingle. I suppose it is the same with everyone. If not, I am sorry for them. My son was born in the winter time and at his birth there was a loud clap of thunder as a strange winter storm came through. Thor was well pleased by his birth. I named him after the storm. After the God of thunder. He is strong, and I am proud.
