People are comforted in general with the thought of a higher power watching over them. To think that they have somewhere to go after death, whether it be a form or reincarnation, a heaven, a hell, ect. This keeps hope alive in humans. The theory oh hell and the 10 commandments is also a structural set of rules and consequences set forth to keep people in line. If you risk your immortal soul so to speak, is it worth it?

As for the thought of whether or not a higher power talks to one of us... as humans we are granted a very complex brain which gives us the ability to develop and grow. To figure things out. As of right now, scientists believe that we only use a small fraction of our brain to function as we currently do. Who's to say what the rest of our brain does yet. Could our God(s) whom we adore manifest in there somewhere? It's definitely a possibility. Divine intervention has not been documented on a grand scale for quite some time on this planet. I think our brain is far more powerful than we give it credit for. Perhaps it is the human mind telling us what we need to do, and it's peoples will, thier willingness to believe that it's a higher power telling them what they need to do, because as humans that's what they need.

I'm recalling another news story I glanced at online last week about a building that was accidentially demolished because the demolition team was lead to the wrong location by their GPS.
