I like eating healthy. Which means I always look for more natural alternatives. This is the reason I started raising chickens in the summer. No antibiotics in the feed - natural grain feed, with natural proteins, free-range...
I cook with chicken all the time. It's nice to know the chicken I will be using will be raised, and processed by Morri and I in a more natural and respectful way than most mass-producing farms.
But now that we have taken up doing the processing on our own... after days like today, I think to myself... I don't think I will ever eat chicken again.
Oooh, why what happened? (mind is BOGGLING. headless chooks running about???). LOL but really, the taste and the health benefits of fresh organic meat that you processed yourself far outweighs any other kind :P
I know, and that is the reason I raise, on a small scale, my own food.
Next year I want to expand, but can't really expand the chicken production unless I move to a different house.
It just gets to you after a while. I can't really process the chickens outside where it would be easier, because, you know, people are nosy and someone would call the cops thinking this was somehow much more cruel than what happens to the chickens they gladly stuff their fat faces with in processed nugget form... So I have to work in the garage, with the door only up a bit - which doesn't promote good air flow. And the smells of chicken + blood tend to get to me a bit.
Now I've been done for a while. The chickens are cleaned and chillin' in the fridge. I feel ok and could probably make chicken for dinner tonight.... but I'm thinking, maybe... sushi instead. Just supposin'...
hmmmm sushi! I found an awesome place just around the corner from where the poker run was.
When Morri gets her passport- we're GOING :D
