Sometimes friend have ask me, who knows me, what spiritual rituals I do. Every day, no matter what I have planned for that day, I get up at 5 am. I have my native Life quit ( you can google this to see what it is the meaning behind it, Its a Native Thing of Course) that is spread on the floor by a window in my bedroom and I sit upon my Life Quit. I have bowls of 1. Sweet Grass, 2. Sage in bowls ( my bowls are made from drop-dead wood found in the woods around my home, I am lucky enough to have my back yard to run into the Forest here. I never ever use a shell bowl to burn anything in as Mother Nature would frown Upon putting burns into one of her creations yet wood that is dead and laying on Mother Earth I am told by the Elders Mother Nature is cool with us using this wood to burn herbs in) that I light and use to smudge every morning as I began my chants. Chants that are true Cree words taught to me by our elders in starting prayers to Great Spirit, Creator and Mother Earth. After about 15 Min of chants and smudging, I have learned the below by heart and the following I say each and every morning:
O Great Spirit, Creator, Mother Earth whose voices I hear in the winds and on whose breaths give life to all the world, hear me.
I come before you, one of your children. I am small and weak. I need strength and wisdom.
Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple of the sunrises and sunsets. Make my hands respect the things you all have made, my ears sharp to hear your voices.
Make me wise, so that I may know the things you have taught my people, the lessons you all have hidden in every leaf and rock.
I seek strength, not to be superior to my brothers and sisters but to be able to fight my GREATEST enemy: MYSELF.
Make me every ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes so that when life fades as a fading sunset, my spirit may come to you all without shame.
This day and everyday look upon all those who need you all and open there eyes and hearts to your healings. Keep them all safe as only you all have the power to do.
Then I have some closing chants.
I have done this ritual of mine since I was 19 and landed in jail (where one of our Elders visited me in my cell and taught me this morning ritual, from the chants to siting my stupid ass on my Life Quilt) for being a stupid idiot except the burning of the herbs part because even though its consider my Religious RIGHTS and freedoms as a citizen of the Great Nation I live in to practice said religion I am a part of the Cree Nation) ...The Jail said NO way would they allow me to start a fire in my cell. Bastards. I have seen results from doing so, received gifts that I know in my heart I would not currently have, if I had never started this.
