Guide to being a Coven Master

This guide is to help you, the new Coven Master. This guide isn’t to dictate how you are to run a coven, but it will help you understand the different aspects of being a Coven Master.

First, let’s talk about the jobs of the different positions in the Coven and the pros and cons of each. When you go to your member list, under each member’s name, there will be an edit member. This is where you go to change their status within the coven, from blinding them to promoting the member. This is the description of each position, on the Edit member page, the warning will be in
Silver.

Blind Member-- Cannot view any special Coven pages such as Forum or News. They will not receive Coven messages. This setting will override all other settings.Members will continue to earn you favors, even though they are Blinded.

Regular Member -- Standard and default membership. Can view all special Coven pages but cannot administrate. If this is checked, any checked administrative settings are ignored.

News Master-- Can Add/Delete News articles.

Coven Message Master-- Can send Coven messages.

Forum Master – Can Open/Close/Edit/Delete Forum messages. They can do everything that a Dominar can, but only within your Coven. They can delete someone’s posts or threads. They could delete your whole forum. Set rules down for how you want the forum to be watched and used. Make sure that your Forum Master understands.

Detail Master– Can access the Setup page. They are usually the ones in charge of creating and maintaining the pages in the coven. But they also have the ability to access the set up page. This will allow them to delete any page or change the Coven Graphics. Always keep back ups of everything on your Coven pages, in case this happens. It will make it easier to fix any deletions, whether it being due to your details master or a problem with VR.

Trade Master– Can initiate and accept trade offers from other Houses or Covens.
As stated above, they can initiate and accept trades from Houses and Covens. They also have the ability to trade off your favors or kick all your members, except of course the Coven Master. Make sure the person you put in this position is absolutely trustworthy, as with this position, same as the Assistant Coven Master position; it is going to be one of the most visible to other Covens. They will dictate how other covens interact with yours, by their actions. Make sure you set down rules and regulation on how your Trade Master is to perform their duties.

Level Master --Can alter the level (this page) of Coven members. Can give members promotions or take them away. This includes demoting your Assistants or promoting someone to into another level.

Assistant Coven Master– All Coven powers. The only excluded power is marking. If this is checked all other checked administrative settings are ignored. They can do everything that a Coven Master can do, except marking a person. If you don’t have someone in this position that you absolute trust, they can do the most damage to your coven. They have the ability to trade away all your favors, trade/kick all your members, delete all your Coven pages, delete or change your Coven Graphics and delete your forum threads.

*****If you give a member Trade Master, Level Master, Forum Master, News Master and Detail Master, you may as well make them an Assistant Coven Master, because they have the same ability as one.*****

This is just the beginning of things to know about being a Coven Master but the rest has to be dictated by you and how you handle business. Most people starting up, don’t realize what each of these positions can do. To know this, will protect your coven, in the most basic of manners ---from sabotage from within.

Trades/Favors/Master Messages

Being a new Coven Master, some people will take advantage of your naiveté. This includes taking advantage of your Trade Masters and Assistant Coven Masters, when it comes to trading people.

Generally, there is no set way to decide how much a person is worth to trade, but some Houses and Coven’s work with a formula of sorts.

Some Houses use 400 favors per level, but generally most the Coven use 150 -200 favors per level, adding in their activity level, any positions held and their current usefulness to the Coven. You need to make your own decisions about how your Coven will handle trading situations and make sure your Trade and ACM’s are aware of your policy.

There are two ways to advertise that your Coven has people up for trade. Make a Trade page and send out a Master Message. As a Master of a Coven, you will now have the ability to communicate with all the Masters on VR at the same time. Simply type out a message as you usually would, place a Master Message in the To: area and click the Master message button at the top before sending the message. It will send a message to All House and Coven Masters.

How to Kick a Member

Every once in awhile, a Master, Assistant Coven Master or Trade master, will need to kick a member, either due to inactivity or other problems.

First, go to your member list and write down (or Copy) the member's name. Then in your coven pages, go to the trade page. At the very bottom of the
trade page, you will see the following:

Type in the member's name and then hit “kick”. Make sure that you are sure you want to do this, as there will be no fail safe. You will not be asked for confirmation.

When you kick a member, a message will be sent to the member, informing them, “You have been kicked by (whoever kicked them), from the Coven of (Coven name)”

How to Make a Trade

As this is part of your way of gaining members and favors, its important that you are aware of how to make or send a trade.
Go back to the trade page and you will see the following at the top:

At the top, you will see a drop down menu. In that menu, you will find the name for every house and coven within the realm of VR. Choose the Coven you wish to make a deal with. Let’s say you are trading them a member for 1000 favors. Under Offer, type in the member's name, the favor amount and if you wish, you can send a message to go along with the offer. Once you check that its going to the right coven, hit submit. The transaction is done.

You can do the same with requesting members, or if you wish to offer just favor to another coven. You do the same thing, you just don' t put a name in the member area.

How to Send a Coven Message

A Coven Message, or Society Message, is a message that only your coven members that aren’t blinded, get.

Simply, go to your Coven page, at the top you will see House Message. Click on that and a message box will come up. You can then type a message specifically to your Coven. Once you send it, it will show up in the Society message area of their inbox.

The Setup Page

The Setup page, is the Main Details page. On the Setup page, you can change the Coven Graphics. It is where you set up the Main coven page Style sheet. It allows you to add and delete Coven pages. This is also the place where you can disband the coven at the very bottom.

That about covers how do the basic chores of being a Coven Master. Everything else about being a Coven Master, comes from within you. Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK!!!
