My actual name is Katarina, but Ive always preferred to be called Karly, and have been so called ever since I was born. My mums friend, Karl, died right before I was born and I was nick-named in memory of him. I have many other nicknames as well, such as Kat and Katty. Although I dont necessarily like these nicknames, I dont mind them and answer to them if called by them. Here on the Rave many people refer to me as Terri, a stem name off of Territhian. The name Territhian holds no specific meaning, nor was it given to me by someone dear. It just came to me, and I felt as though it described me somehow. It isnt a spiritual thing, I simply connect to certain sounds more than others.
I grew up in a medium-sized town. It has its okay neighborhoods and it has its "dont go there past 8 pm" neighborhoods. My mum went in and out of jail, rehab, drug addictions, and domestic abuse during the span of my lifetime. When she was unable to take care of us or was away, I lived with my grandmother across the street from a graveyard. It scared me, but it entranced me at the same time.
We were always moving. I went to almost every elementary school in my hometown, both middle schools, and attended both high schools *The high schools were of my own violation. They were not the result of constant moves*. I didnt mind it much, because I was never real good with other people as a kid and never had many friends to say farewell to. My social life changed when I went to my second middle school, though, as I became more of a self and less of a background. Given everything my mum isnt, one thing she is is protective. She always kept a roof over our heads and food on our table, even when she didnt have those herself. She always gave us the best she could, and for that I seriously respect her.
I met my dad when I was 11. He seemed like a pretty cool dude. I visited him every summer and a year ago I moved into his household. I like it here. The neighborhood is much better and the town has about the same crime rate, even though it is much larger. I dont carry my knife here as I did back home. It isnt a whole lot better, but it is at the same time.
My style is a little of everything, I suppose. I wear basic clothing during the school year, a T-shirt and Jeans. I change it up during the weekends sometimes and defidently during the summer. I still wear T-shirts and Jeans, although my style goes from plain to weird accessories and random influences. I really love Lolita and am constantly drawing clothing with an EGL influence. I dress in what I feel like, moving from Goth to Hippie to a preppy style sometimes within the span of three days. I always have something random and fun on, though.
I love to change my hair. I have had it purple, pink, black, red tips, burgundy, and orange *I attempted blonde.. it didnt work out well*. My natural hair color is A medium Brown. I dont wear much makeup. I wear eyeliner, lipstick, and every once in a while eyeshadow. I have no need for concealor or any of that other goopy crud women put on thier faces, for I have been graced with a pretty decent complexion.
I am a firm believer in Animal Rights. I am vegatarian: Lacto-ovo to be exact. I dont believe in the killing of anything that can feel it. If it has a face, I wont eat it. I drink mostly organic milk and only eat eggs every few months. I believe the only life you have the right to take is your own. Now, I know that we need protein. And maybe if we respected the animals we killed, only took what we ABSOLUTELY needed, didnt waste any part of the being, and always gave back to the earth what we took? Maybe I would eat meat. But we dont. We kill more than necessary. We kill for game. We waste the dead and we do so without respect. I refuse to be a part in that.
Now I have heard countless times before that killing animals is the same as killing plants, therefore I am a killer anyways. But I only take what I will eat when it comes to plants, and most vegetables and fruits dont kill the plant in order to eat them. Does it kill a tree to eat the apple? I think not. And with plants, you can always give back what you take. Its called gardening and planting. You should try it sometime.
I am 100% for Gay Rights! I am Bi, and even though I have no plans of marriage anywhere in the near future, I want to be sure that if the person I fall in love with is a woman, I am able to give her my all and be with her without restrictions. I believe that we are all entitled to our own opinions but we have no right to allow our opinions to govern how other people should live. I say Legalize gay marraige. How can someone else marry-ing a member of the same sex effect you? Who are you to say that they must live exactly like you?
The same goes to the GLBT community as well. How can we expect others to accept us and treat us fairly if we ask for more than equal rights? Dont say we dont, because some of usdo. The most recent case, the one that really got me thinking, is Miss California. She almost lost her crown because she voiced an opinion! She was ASKED her view on gay marraige, and she told us it. That is perfectly acceptable, because there are people that are offended by our views as well. If we want to be treated fairly, we need to treat others the way we want to be treated. That is something we should have learned in kindergarden, people!
I think that if you care about something deeply, like I do for Animal and Gay rights, you should put your voice out there. It doesnt matter your age, sex, race, Your opinions really do matter. If you care, do something! Dont just let others fight the fight for you. They cant do it on thier own! One voice has so much power, but many voices can change the world. Even if you feel alone in your fight, stand up! Take the initiative! Yeah, it may not be the easiest thing to do, and you may be alone, but I can guarentee that there are people out there just waiting for someone to step up and be a leader. What are you waiting for?
