For thousands of years cats have been regarded as mysterious creatures with supernatural powers. These beliefs certianly did not disappear during the European witch craze. The witch trails started in the 13th century. People began to believe that witches had the ability to turn into an animal, usually a cat in order to transport themselves to a Sabbat presided over by the devil himself. The idea of familiar spirits soon developed. These were imps or minor demons who could take the form of small animals, most often a cat. A familiar acted as a intermediary for the witch carrying out her orders so that she wouldn't have to be at the scene of the crime when the evil deed was done. A witches cat came to be called a Grimalkin ( hense my name.)................. I have a great love of cats. As well as cat lore, and mythology. I truely believe them to be magical creatures. Worshiped by mankind since the dawning of time and still loved for their magical ways till this day. I will be writing more as i get a feel for this site. Thanks for stopping, and Happy Halloween!
