"I am a red man. If the Great Spirit had desired me to be a white man he would have made me so in the first place. He put in your heart certain wishes and plans, in my heart he put other and different desires. Each man is good in his sight. It is not necessary for Eagles to be Crows. We are poor..but we are free. No white man controls our footsteps. If we must die...we die defending our rights."
Native American Genocide
The Indians were described as being very hospitable, and were thought of as remarkable for their belief in sharing.
In October, we honor Christopher Columbus, who opened the Atlantic slave trade and launched one of the greatest waves of genocide known in history.
Christopher Columbus, was a slave trader, a gold digger, a missionary, and even a war profiteer in the name of Ferdinand and Isabella. The arrival of Columbus's small fleet on what is now San Salvador (that's Spanish for "Holy Savior") was greeted by the "decorous and praiseworthy" Taino Indians (Columbus's words) and was followed almost immediately by mass enslavement, amputation for sport, and a genocide that claimed over four million people in four years.
Spaniards "thought nothing of knifing Indians by tens and twenties and of cutting slices off them to test the sharpness of their blades. They forced their way into native settlements, slaughtering everyone they found there, including small children, old men, pregnant women, and even women who had just given birth. They hacked them to pieces, slicing open their bellies with their swords as though they were sheep herded into a pen. They even laid wagers on whether they could manage to slice a man in two at a stroke, or cut an individual's head from his body, or disembowel him with a single blow of their axes. They grabbed suckling infants by the feet and, ripping them from their mothers' breasts, dashed them headlong against the rocks. Others, laughing and joking all the while, threw them over their shoulders into a river, shouting: 'Wriggle, you litle perisher.' They slaughtered anyone on their path ..."
THE ROUTE OF TRAIL OF TEARS
GENOCIDE OF NATIVE AMERICANS
THE TRAIL OF TEARS
Mass killing did not cease, however, after Columbus departed. Expansion of the European colonies led to similar genocides. "Indian Removal" policy was put into action to clear the land for white settlers. Methods for the removal included slaughter of villages by the military and also biological warfare. High death rates resulted from forced marches to relocate the Indians.
The Removal Act of 1830 set into motion a series of events which led to the "Trail of Tears" in 1838, a forced march of the Cherokees, resulting in the destruction of most of the Cherokee population." The concentration of American Indians in small geographic areas, and the scattering of them from their homelands, caused increased death, primarily because of associated military actions, disease, starvation, extremely harsh conditions during the moves, and the resulting destruction of ways of life.
Many Women and Children were raped and killed during this removal
OUR GRANDFATHERS ARE NO DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHERS GRANDFATHERS
SIOUX CHIEF (RED CLOUD)
I am poor and naked, but I am the chief of the nation. We do not want riches but we do want to train our children right. Riches would do us no good. We could not take them with us to the other world. We do not want riches. We want peace and love.
The Great Spirit raised both the white man and the Indian. I think he raised the Indian first. He raised me in this land, it belongs to me. The white man was raised over the great waters, and his land is over there.
~~~ Red Cloud
WE ARE PROUD PEOPLE
WE ARE WARRIORS
WE LOVE OUR FAMILY JUST LIKE OTHERS
In 1890, the last Indian resistance was defeated at the massacre of Wounded Knee in the Great Plains, seen as a revenge for Little Bighorn. About 320 fugitive Sioux men, women and children were killed by the federal troops armed with Hotchkiss guns with rapid shot.
Why have we been murdered ,why have our women and children
been raped and killed?
Why have we been put on Reservations ?
Why have we been hated for so long?
We are no different than any other man/woman/or child
Today, in US there are 29 colleges for Amerindians, with 16,000 students. At the University "Sinte Gliska", Lakota language is an obligatory matter.
Most Native American's have had to change their names to get into a college in the United States. I know because my father had to change our name to get into school even a good job.
50-85 % of the Native Americans are unemployed, and they have the lowest life hope compared with other ethnic groups in US; they also have the highest rates of diabetes, TBC and alcoholism, connected to cirrhosis, deadly accidents, suicide and crime.
Simply because we have not been accepted by White Man
WE ALL HAVE TO BATTLED BETWEEN OUR GOOD AND BAD SPIRITS AT TIMES
There was a time when the land was sacred,
and the ancient ones were as one with it.
A time when only the children of the Great Spirit
were here to light their fires in these places with no boundaries...
In that time, when there were only simple ways,
I saw with my heart the conflicts to come,
and whether it was to be for good or bad,
what was certain was that there would be change.
-The Great Spirit-
"Upon suffering beyond suffering, the Red Nation shall rise again and it shall be a blessing for a sick world. A world of broken promises, selfishness and separations, a world longing for light again. I see a time of Seven Generations when all the colours of mankind will gather under the Sacred Tree of Life and the whole earth will become one circle again.... I salute the light within your eyes where the whole universe dwells. For when you are at that centre within you, and I am at that place within me, we shall be one."
~ Chief Crazy Horse, Oglala Sioux, 1877
SIOUX CHIEF SITTING BULL
“What white man has ever seen me drunk? Who has ever come to me hungry and left me unfed? Who has seen me beat my wives or abuse my children? What law have I broken?” Is it wrong for me to love my own? Is it wicked for me because my skin is red? Because I am Sioux? Because I was born where my father lived? Because I would die for my people and my country?
This red flag bears a circle of nine teepees representing the nine districts of the reservation. They stand for Porcupine, Wakpamni, Medicine Root, Pass Creek, Eagle Nest, White Clay, LaCreek, Wounded Knee, and Pine Ridge Districts.
I’m a father to a great boy. I can't see him or hold him, his mom has him in Canada. I have seen him a few times now his 5 five now and she tells me his alot like me. I'm doomed to live in the darkness of my past. Hiding from the light of happiness. Death is what I want but can't find it. If you want to see a picture of me just ask or email me and I’ll send it to you.
I'm the manager of the seafood department at rouse a local store here in Morgan City. I love meeting new people so if you want drop me a line and I’ll write you back asap, when I get home or when I wake up.
I love talking about anything dealing with death and I love pain. I live in the world using a human body to get some things and get strong again to prey off others sadness. I love the taste of blood.
As we lose the tears in our past and a bit of us die. We learn to hate the world a little more. Then when we find a great women or man we see a little light in their eyes but some times it scares us off and we lose them forever. I lost a woman that way, she was and is in most ways still my everything I might not tell her that but you know you are straw. I love you so much.
Come set in the land of opened minds with me and see the world for what it is. You have to come with an open mind and death will join us. As we set on the ground looking out we will feel the hands of our past grabbing us and showing us what we don't want to see. From a beloved death to the things that made you what you are at this moment. Remember the words I say to you now for this really is a welcome to my nightmare world. Leave some blood on my table for the night time is the best.
We come in this life as a babe and we leave it as a number. I say fuck being a number I’ll be a letter.
Lets kill or be killed, drink or be drank.
Will you ever?
I don't think you will
ever fully understand
how you've touched my life
and made me who I am.
I don't think you could ever know
just how truly special you are
that even on the darkest nights
you are my brightest star.
I don't think you will ever fully comprehend
how you've made my dreams come true
or how you've opened my heart
to love and the wonders it can do.
You've allowed me to experience
something very hard to find
unconditional love that exists
in my body, soul, and mind.
I don't think you could ever feel
all the love I have to give
and I'm sure you'll never realize
you've been my will to live.
You are an amazing person
and without you I don't know where I'd be.
Having you in my life
completes and fulfills every part of me.
