i’ve also dabbled in latch hook rugs,
tatting, beadwork, watercolors
i’ll try any time consumer at least
once!

-is that life? making doilies, getting high & just
going with it?
-why can’t it be? why does it have to be something
more complicated?
-because it seems so pointless, it’s like the big
question isn’t what is the meaning of life, but
does it even matter?…like even if you know the
meaning of life what difference does it make?
-are you smoking weed or lithium?
-can you smoke that?
-i don’t know, but i’ve had more cheerful
conversations at funerals…several, in fact…

i once spent 12 hrs in a taxi on the night
before christmas eve, the taxi driver let
me ride with him instead of waiting
outside at a bus station in the snow
he talked about prospecting with the
hells angels and how it was a good idea
to drink a milkshake before standing out
in the snow, because then your inside
was already cold…i wanted it to be
true because it was in the teens…he
talked about his old lady and she called
like twenty times to remind him to bring
home beer and pizza because she was
already sick of all the cooking she had
been doing for christmas already…i got the
impression he forgot a lot of things…
he never became an angel and i never
caught that bus…

…all men and all their works will pass…

(g)-i was laid off from my job (looking very dejected)…
(m)-ah, given the old pink slip…
(d)-were you really given a pink slip? isn’t that sexist?
(g & m are a little confused)
(d)-you know, because it’s pink?
you’re a lady?
(m)-you never told me you were a
lady…
(g)-didn’t know myself…please explain…
(d)-well, you know, pink for ladies, blue for
the boys…
(m)-she’s for the boys…ah, so now
you’re a middle-aged, over-educated,
under-skilled, fairly useless prat…

are you going to do now?

i am in the process of getting all of the original
V on my ipod…
no interest in watching this new one…

when i was five my uncle who lived with us
at the time, was only like 17 and he was an
artist and one night he painted a bug as it
crawled across the floor, one side blue,
one side red…i spent years looking for that
bug…

…you take a seat in a booth near the back,
you want to be alone…an old man in a
large-brimmed, beaten, brown hat covering
most of his face comes toward you, you
cannot move…you do not want to anyway…
he pulls a notebook and a pen from his jacket,
and puts it in front of you…
“write all of this down…now…”
he walks to the bar,
“coffee and kahlua, for my friend here,
in a bottomless cup”
he nods to you before you can tell him
he says, “they won’t make you ill tonight,
i promise”
and even though he winked when he said it,
you believe him…
and that’s when everything went
black…
