I debated for a while what to do my member page on. The rest of the gang did our rpg games. The traitor wife made a page on Woody. As much as I love Woody, how could you not do one on our puppies. Then I also thought of doing a mule page. However things have been rough lately for our pup. So the final result was a page for Amber. The mule page will be coming later.

Where do I begin. Perhaps with her parents and how the miracle puppy came about. Amber came from the Snoopy line, one of my brother's dogs. We could actually do a family tree for Amber. Her daddy was a brave little guy. He muddled through a heart problem and no teeth. He was my inspiration.

When I was going through my liver transplant, he was always there by my side. When we lost him, my heart was broken. He left behind a legacy, his daughter Amber. Amber was a miracle in herself.

When I was sick in the hospital before the liver surgery, Scooby got together with the wife and he got her pregnant. There is a miracle in that because Scooby was a 8 lb. chihuahua. Moma DeeDee is 55 lbs. He managed it with pillows.

She has been going through some rough times since June. Her knee snapped out of joint. She had surgery on it. It was a rough healing process. The vet thought he would have to re-do it. Meanwhile her paws started getting flat. She literally looked like she had flippers.

Amber started having problems walking. The knee finally healed but the feet got worst. Then her other knee started coming out of joint. Poor little trooper with all these problems. Last vet visit, the vet said we couldn't fix her knee till the paws were fixed.

They put casts on her paws with the hope her over-extended tendons will shrink. If it works, they can do the surgery on her knee. Meanwhile I am thinking of ways to help my girl. The inventor in me says there has to be a better way. Something more breathable. We found hospital booties to put over the casts to keep them clean. Poor girl!

My puppies are fighters and they teach me valuable lessons in life. Never give up!

After 10 days with the casts on we noticed our poor girl smelled really bad. The vet was closed so we brought her back on Monday. Gut feeling was something was terribly wrong. We were right. She had a terrible infection. They loaded her up with antibiotics, including a antibiotic wash. Her poor paws were raw and bleeding.

The vet told us if we didn't get her there when we did, the infection could have been bad enough to lose her paws. Right now straightening her paws are nothing, making her healthy is #1. It's my mission.

On a good note, her fur is starting to grow back on her paws. Looks like peach fuzz.

The doctor had us on the phone for about an hour. He doesn't want to repair the back knee till her paws can support her while she is recovering from surgery. It's like we are at a rock and a hard place here because the doctor really doesn't know what to do for Amber. The casting didn't work. They could metal plates in her paws but they won't bend. He suggested a specialist.

The last specialist cost a fortune to tell us it was her diet. Say what? She eats dog food.

We saw our friend Emily this weekend who makes shoes. She says she can make shoes for Amber. Well, we got into a discussion on this because don't you have to mold her legs and paws? Like Amber is going to stay still while casting the molds. She is a dog. People just don't think. It's somewhat different with an animal. Em meant well but really! Amber would have to be sedated I think.

That's my girl!

Been setting aside money that I got for my birthday as an Amber fund. Told everyone no presents, put money aside for Amber. Going to see if we can find a specialist at the Animal medical Center in Manhattan for my girl.

Amber at the doctor. Looks as if the only soluation seems to be fusing of her joints at her"wrists".

Ro got Amber's pawprint on her foot. She loves her girl too.

Home from the surgery. She had to get lumps removed from her nipples. Fingers crossed they aren't cancerous. Our girl has enough things without this.

We heard back on the lab results from the surgery, the lumps are pre-cancerous. That means we have to monitor her carefully. He suggested some herbal treatment as a form of chemo. Fingers crossed for my girl.

I gave her the first treatment and it made her sick. We will have to figure out something else like put it in her food.

She has been sick 3 times with the medicine. Ro suggested charting it (like school) to see a pattern when she is sick. We noticed on a empty stomach or too close to dairy products is no good. Amazing how much they are like people.

Amber has been doing better. Not so for her momma. She just had a lump removed from her tail which was malignant. She starts chemo next week. Ro was heart broken but we have to be strong for our girls. They didn't cut off the tail. Hopefully it was caught in time.

Deedee has been on chemo for 8 days. So far okay except today we noticed she was sluggish. According to vet if we see a change after 2 weeks, her body is fighting off the cancer. If there is no change it means they vet got it all during surgery.

It's one thing after another for our girls. After Dee's chemo treatment, Amber had to get a tumor removed from her ear. Thank god no chemo for her.. When it rains, it pours!.

This has been a rough year for us. We lost Shadow in the summer after 23 years. Then just before Christmas we lost Willow. She had a tumor in her mouth. The chemo that works for dogs hasn't been successful on cats as of yet.. The vet tried. At first we were hopeful. The tumor shrank but started to spread out. Just 15 years ago Ro and I picked her out of a tree trunk. It was our first newlywed thing together. Willow also saved Shadow from depression after losing her buddy Allura.

Just when you think a New Year will bring better times you find Mama Deedee may have a liver problem that is causing her dry skin, not allergies. They want to do a cancer scan as well, Not cancer again!
