That is an interesting way of looking at things that I hadn't thought of before. Maybe we are all a little misguided, and immortality simply means that a person is different, and can live much longer. After all, records do show that people and other life have lived for many, many years, as you have pointed out. However, where's the proof saying that there's anyone out there that was here at the beginning of time? "Forever" can't really be justified. But that is an interesting point you said about the people faking their own death..makes you wonder about reincarnation, but that's a whole other topic.
