First of all, let's have a look at how we shall define Immortality. Does it mean a person who will never die? Or does it mean a person who will live much longer than would be thought mortally possible?
Throughout history there have been accounts of humans living for hundreds of years, many of them are familiar to all of us. Vampires for instance have been called immortal and in one way or another almost every culture has an account in its mythology of a mysterious sub human creature who lives for hundreds of years in many cases these persons can quite happily walk in daylight, unlike Dracula who seems to have become the template for the modern understanding of an immortal.
Looking at things practically and scientifically we see some instances of animal and plant life surviving for centuries. The Madagascar radiated tortoises have been known to live for 188 years, researchers in Pennsylvania have discovered a living plant that is a remnant of the last Ice Age. Using the known rate of growth if this self-sterile plant, they estimated that this 1/4-acre colony is over 13,000 years old. The oldest recorded Koi (Big goldfish thing) is 226 yrs. I have not included bacteria which can survive for millions of years.
Ok, I understand if you don't want to be given examples of plants and animals but let's look at the best selling book of all time, ever. The Holy Bible mentions a man called Methuselah who was the grandfather of Noah he lived to be 969 yrs old. Noah himself hung in there for 950 yrs. Also mentioned is Abraham who died at the age of 127 and his wife lived to 127. Now I am not saying that I support the bible but it's simply the most famous historical reference I can give.
What I wonder are there humans these days who live to be this age? Everyone knows that it's possible to fake your own death and in many cases it seems that these long lives run in families and usually this leads to amassed wealth through property making the secrecy even easier.
Biologically speaking it's not that far out there, a person can live for quite a few more years than normal and our organs are not all worn out after we die hence the organ donation program. Even a person who dies at the age of 90 has organs with many years life left in them. We have not ever considered a strain of humanity that is more evolved and has the ability to hibernate for long periods of time.
