Often it comes to pass that every culture and their own subcultures move along the scale of time with each generation’s growths, struggles and varying periods of angst. Be any of that angst seemingly based in people’s personalities or be they rooted from an effect of a cultures growth associated with the pseudo psychology that almost always accompanies a cultures growth; there have always been and one could suppose always will be the leaders, who find themselves either thrust into positions where they try well and do genuine good for and by those who benefit from such efforts, and/or there are those persons who take a determined course to act as a nexus purposefully trying their best and hoping that their own experience coupled with a sense of the communities public need, will result in some good and needed growth coupled with a binding effect that just might strengthen the ties that bind the greater all. Whatever the interpretation, and whoever the personalities involved, one can reliably take the position that it takes a lot of guts, gumption and daring along with some self-confidence to stand up and try to do what’s truly considered right and true by a community of many such as this. In this course, throughout history and almost virtually throughout every culture known to mankind, these courses of growth have their bumps and bruises to them. Alice Walker stated that “no person is your friend who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow.” This mode of thinking has, in the better examples of most cultures, usually been wrought along a very tough path at times. Our own culture I dare to intimate, stands as no different. When one looks beyond the artificial veil of a television screen or a theater screen, what remains is a body of real people in life circumstances, all seeking a greater sense of common answers and common welfare. Such is when the rest of the window dressing can be cast aside and eye meets eye in the real world that everyone is affected by. Some of the community leaders who take the time to stand out and bring both awareness and a sense of understanding to those who otherwise would simply pass off the idea of Vampyrism as some piece of fiction, risk not only their reputations and sometimes their own personal safety, but as well place themselves in the often strange position of being perceived as wayward and distant to many who feel the effect of their public exposure. To this, one can only wish that the stars move in their directions, and thus right down the ladder of effect to all of our communities directions. Such a place is hard to live in and demands great humility of someone.
It was Andy Warhol who said, “they say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.” Well, I always found Warhol a different type of character, given some of his more obvious eccentricities. When one though looks beyond the veil of the eye, and witnesses to some level of understanding what moves such a person, then the expected resultant effect begins to move into view. It usually never is what was expected, at least at the point of their thoughts inception. The result does though follow some course of trial, error and personal sacrifice. Feelings of isolation, a feeling of being separate and apart from in many ways, as well as being placed on both sides of feeling as being both interpreter for the many as well as being interpreted for ones words and ways in the public. The forces involved in these ways of being can be virtually the same and common to the like of most of their kind. These are the things and the ways that begin the shifts of public perceptions and open the door ever so slightly for education and understanding to follow.
I dare the thought that these risk laden people, being as fallible and human as everyone else, might just deserve our attention and our respect for the very risks they place before themselves in their lives for the sake of these communities. These efforts exist as both the cornerstone of their efforts and the keystone of the arch they create, that finally bridge the divide that exists between fiction and reality for a world that simply is beyond the understanding of many things, and many ways of being. The following transition that always comes, no matter which way the course might take, is truly a continuation of a truly perpetual transition from one mode of thought to another. The road never really ends, but simply keeps taking turns and then hits more bumps along the way rocking the ride for awhile for people. As long as there exists a desire to broaden a communities own awareness of itself, as well as to further the understanding of those who otherwise would probably have none, such risk takers have one trait to them that regardless of their own personality’s trials and pains at times, they must be given credit in that, they do have a vision.
