What are the different types of vampires and the appropriate terms for them? What do they feed on and how?
Historically, as found in the original accounts throughout Slavic lands?
Or as found in Western fiction and morphed from there into present-day pop culture and all the sub-cultures and "lifeforbiddens" spawned therefrom currently en vogue worldwide?
If the former... then there is only One. If the latter... Then there are as many definitions and permutations as there are imaginations to dream them up and would (and do!) take up entire books to list.
If you really want to get to the meat of the community, I suggest you read my, "Vampire Community" article, it can be found here: https://www.vampirerave.com/journal/journal_section.php?section=personal&journal=Soulshroude&page=August 2011
I think there's only one kind, and they aren't carnivorous.
LOL What?
Did you know there is someone here who has scientific evidence that says otherwise Divine? That vampires dont have anything to really do with blood.
i believe from my study and knowing some who call them self vamps. lol and i am sorry for that word . but psi and sage are the two magor types and of the two there are more psi or ones who feed off of the energy of others . and you are born vamp or you have been sired or one other way witch i know very little of and i would not even think of looking into it and that is the black arts . there is some witches who say they can change a mear mortal to vampiric form . not a true sage but with the same thirst for life as one.
Oceanne,
What do you mean that someone says that vampyres would have nothing to do with blood? I mean whether any thinks they are a "divine" vampyre or not.
Oh no Victorya,I meant divine,as in divineangel. :D
But this journal
https://www.vampirerave.com/journal/journal2.php?journal=UpirLikhyj
will show you another side of vampires. They dont have anything to do with blood.
I think, Victorya, that Oceanne was referring to my profile and the research I provide therein that includes the findings of noted Vampirologists and Slavicists that show that Vampires were never actually blood drinkers. Never were and never have been.
Dr. Bruce McClelland, among them, has concluded that the blood-drinking trait in Vampires is not found at all prior to the beginning of the 18th Century CE. Yet the term "Vampire" is found in Slavic accounts dating over 700 years before then at least. The Russian Primary Chronicle records the term "Vampire" about 200 years years before this... and states that they were worshiped by the Slavic and Russian peoples prior to the advent of Christianity.
It was Dr. Paul Barber who carefully dissects in his research exactly how this false blood-drinking trait began to be spread amongst the superstitious populations of Eastern Europe. Turns out that when the bodies of those believed to be vampires were dug up, they found the corpses engorged with what appeared to be... blood. But, how could all that blood have gotten into them? The conclusion reached by these medically ignorant peasants and Christian clergy was that they must be ... drinking it. And that is where and how the tales began of Vampires as blood drinkers. Unfortunately for them ... and for all who even today believe Vampires to be blood-drinkers ... the simple fact was and is that the reason why these corpses were found bloated with blood-like liquid was due entirely to the natural process of decomposition in which the internal organs liquify, causing the corpse to bloat with dark liquid that resembles blood.
(For all you "Sangs" out there, this historical "revelation" must have you all feeling like a bunch of real nitwits, now. hehehe)
For at least bout 1000 years (that we know of from recorded history), the Slavic "Vampire" was known for three primary traits: First and foremost was his insatiable sexuality, which was why the women he seduced became "exhausted and emaciated" following literaly days and night of mutual, non-stop, multiorgasmic sexual communion. Yes... mutual; the Vampire was nor is a rapist. Secondly, Vampires are long-lived but not immortal. Their lifespans generally last about 300 years. Hence, so as not to arouse suspicion, they must pretend to die of unnatural causes... and when seen later on by happenstance in other towns or lands, they were thought to have risen from the grave. And, thirdly, given the two preceding traits, they were often vilified as evil by the local populaces... especially when Christianity took over with its very anti-sex and anti-female (misogynist) belief system. Thus, the vampire was demonized quite literally. Therefore, when anything bad happened (illness, an unexplained fire or failure of crops or death)... a Vampire was said to be the cause. Yet even here, never ONCE is there any historical account of a death later blamed on a "vampire" that was due to blood loss. Never has there ever been any historical account of a "vampire" ever seen actually drinking anyone's blood. Only in Westernized fictions do we find such.
For any interested in an actual and historical VAMP 101, hope you found this of interest.

Oceanne,
Thank you for your response. I would time allowing look at the site.
Upir, please know that I have not yet read any writings that you may have about this topic.
Victorya.
as far as i know,there are three.they feed on:blood,sexual contact,and emotions/life force
I am by no means an expert, but I will answer this to the best of my knowledge. If I am incorrect on anything, anyone who reads this post can feel free to correct me and I would appreciate it.
Okay as far as I am aware there are two main types of vampires, sanguinary and pranic. All vampires feed on life force, but the two types are differentiated by how they gain that energy. Sanguinary vampires gain life force through the consumption of blood and sometimes (but rarely) other bodily fluids. They need a physical action in order to feed properly.
Pranic vampires (a.k.a. psychic vampires, energy-feeders, spiritual vampires, etc) gain life force through spiritual means rather than physical. Many pranic vampires describe having "tentacles" of sorts that reach out from their energy field and latch onto the energy field of another in order to feed. The exchange is completely mental/spiritual, so the "prey" is often unaware of its happening. A well-controlled and ethical pranic vampire will only take a little energy from several different subjects at a time rather than draining a single person completely, which will leave them fatigued and unable to function efficiently until their natural energy flow is brought back into balance (for most people, it takes a couple hours).
I hope that helps. Again, everyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong on anything.
I believe they break into two basic races I suppose you could call them. Sanguine and Psychic. There are many subraces under Psychic vampires but they generally feed on emotions and mental energies as well as auras while Sanguine feed off of the energy that is let off in a persons blood. Either way Vampires feed off of Energy.
