This thread is to help those who are starting out with energy manipulation. This article focuses on Basic Grounding Techniques that should be performed before and after working with any form of energy.
Many people who are sensitive can easily get over-loaded with energy. Energy that is highly laden with emotion can be particularly overwhelming, esepcially for someone with empathic tendencies. Grounding is a basic metaphysical technique that purges excess or disruptive energy and establishes a more stable condition within the person who is grounding.
There are many different techniques for grounding. Most people use some method of visualization, though certain techniques in Tai Chi or Yoga can also have the effect of grounding. Grounding exercises are not limited to visualizations, and virtually any activity that helps you connect with a stabilizing force and shunt away disruptive energy qualifies as grounding.
Below are three examples of the most common techniques used for grounding:
1. While standing, focus internally on the disruptive energy within you. Take this energy and let it flow down through your legs and into the ground. To aid your focus, you can imagine this energy as a color of light that you find unpleasant, or a discordant sound, or an unpleasant sensation. Collect all of the light / sound / sensation together and send it down into the ground at your feet. Continue to do so until you feel that nothing unpleasant is left and you feel only calm and stable energy within you. Making sure you release any hold upon the unpleasant energy, draw your energy back up to a normal flow throughout your body.
2. Imagine that you are a tree and you are sending roots deep into the ground below you. Focus on all of the disruptive energy, and allow this to pass down through your roots. Release the unwanted energy into the earth that sustains you. When you have let go of all the unwanted energy, focus on clean and healing energy coming from the earth beneath you. Allow the stabilizing energy of the earth to flow up into you until you once again feel balanced and whole.
3. Sit cross-legged on the ground. If the weather is nice outside and you are able to, go out and actually sit down in the grass. To aid in your focus, place the fingers of one hand on the ground before you.* Feel all of the points of your body that are now in contact with the ground. Focusing on these points of contact, purge all of the unwanted energy from your system. Let it flow out of you like a waterfall, or like sand gently sifting through your fingers. When you feel you have purged all the unwanted energy from your system, cut all ties you have to this energy. Release it into the earth below you and let it go. After a moment, draw strength from the solidity of the earth which supports you. Feel this stability supporting every point of your body that is in contact with the ground. Allow your energy to begin flowing naturally again, so you are no longer forcing energy constantly downward. When you feel calm and stable, stand up and take a moment to stretch before continuing whatever you were doing.
May the Darkness serve you well,
Lord Seth

LordSeth,
Thank you for the addendum...I did forget...
I personally use the third, as the root is closer to the ground.

Thanks so much for sharing this, I hope you also in future posts share how to find stones to help ground as I know in some instances they are needed as focus points.

I have found that number three is the best for me. One of my previous partners used to suck me dry ( energy wise that is) and I was always left very cold and shakey. Always had to ground myself with him.
