the kracken has been a subject in many horror movies?but is it real?yes it is.infact one is in the famous smithsonian museum.but they call it a (giant squid).problem is,they r very different from each other.a giant squid actually has a natural enemy, the sperm whale.the kracken on other hand has none.the giant squid only grows up to ten or fifteen feet.the kracked can grow up to 100 feet.so why do scientists say they don't exsist?r they covering something up?
They say it doesn't exist only because it doesn't as far as we know. The ocean, like space, has only had a small percentage of it searched and as technology allows us to dive deeper and remain under water longer we have slowly discovered more and more species of fish and mammals we never knew existed. So it may very well exist and just waiting to be discovered.
It could be a giant squid that for whatever reasons was disturbed by something and rose to the surface. You find them in Norse legend. Some of the descriptions vary and make is seem a little different than the traditional squid but it could be some unknown species that is rarely seen surfacing that we know little or no real information about except by word of mouth.
Its a myth, why are people so desperate for myths to be real?
To all myths is some truth. Most myths are exagerations of generations of great story tellers gone awry.
Giant squids can get to be at least 45 ft. Krakens are probably giant squids.. people tend estimate disproportionally when they see a huge animal.
Is the Kracken in the same square as the "chupa cabra"...just a legend? I need prof and I better touch it.
I feel the Kraken is/was most likely a giant squid.
They are agressive and since the sperm whale is prey..or an "arch enemy" and about the same size as the older sailing vessels,it could stand to reason the squids attacking ships. Not only that, but at night squid do tend to surface to feed.
Oceanne is right.
I remember reading about it at one of my favorite museums.

It's a freaking colossal squid.. with the myth name kraken.. I've studied this for at least 6 years. Kraken is an exaggerated version of the giant or colossal squid.
Imagine seeing one swim up beside your 19th century or so wooden boat. Your imagination would make that thing out to be able to and want to sadistically devour your boat. Scared sailors would stretch it out over drouts of beer.
Fucking pyschology. Jeez.
I agree with Nikki. Sailors are notorious tellers of Tall Tales.
I think it's possible ..i mean the ocean is a huge place that 80% of it can not be explored .
And back in those days, they knew nothing of what we know now.One of those suckers can reach 60 feet in length supposedly.Plus, the fact that everything about it is gigantic.8 flailing tentacles with two arms for catching prey. These two arms being close to 100 feet long. Not to mention the eyes being bigger than a dinner plate. They are mean as hell.Just look at the Humbolt squids. In the breeding season they glow and flash. They are fast and their tentacles can snap steel cables.Or,a mast fairly easily.
Now imagine this thing coming after a ship.If you were to get one close up of the beak, which would be bigger than your head..I mean really? I dont think the sailors had to stretch their tales too much for this to be considered a monster which would lend to one super scary encounter.Humbolt squids ,which are oh...about 6 feet or so can tear a human to bits.So imagine what an encounter with this giant might be like.
And dont forget those teeth in their suckers...
The Kracken was also a creature used by Posiedon to punish cities that offended him.
Like many have already said: Myth has roots in reality, usually created to rationalize the unexplainable. Take the literary version of Dracula for example. There was supposedly someone who lived who believed drinking and bathing in blood would give her eternal life though Bram Stoker used a name that Vlad Tepes was once known as for the character in question. Kraken= giant squid? Makes sense to me.
