There is a saying by Penn and Teller, "Everyones got their own Gris-gris." It basically means everyone holds something material as sacred.
What are your thoughts, and opinions on Charms, Talisman, and Gris Gris?
Could such things be genuine?
Are they worth the money people invest in them?
Could it just be trinkets, that act as placebos to a persons mental acuity?
From wiki:
Gris-gris, also spelled grigri, is a voodoo amulet originating in Africa which is believed to protect the wearer from evil or brings luck,[1] and in some West African countries is used as a method of birth control. It consists of a small cloth bag, usually inscribed with verses from the Qur'an and containing a ritual number of small objects, worn on the person.
Actually, this is a better version it has all the sections.

Here is something about a charm that is often caste in a negative role.
While I'm basically ignorant on the subject, one of my sisters is into Santeria...not so much the practice, but the history behind it.
She does have a few creepy voodoo items in her house though...lol
Personally I sort of revere Voodoo, simply because those who practice voodoo are known to use deceptive methods to make it appear that their hexes, and blessings have had an effect.
Charms, Talisman and Gris - Gris can work as a placebo, as mentioned.
I dont see anything wrong with placing belief in a object which will ultimately have a positive effect on the state of mind of the person using them.
However, depending on how fragile the state of mind of the person using them is, should also be taken into consideration. Placing belief in something that cannot be explained in a factual way could bring about a negative effect rather than a positive one in the long term as well as the short term.
The word Voodoo meaning "Heavenly intention, Vitality" originally had a positive connotation. Voodoo essentially is the belief that everything in the Universe is connected. It can be used for good or evil as in many other ritual magick practices. For the good it is used for protection and good luck. Unfortunately many have used it to cast hexes and negative spells on their enemies. While some believe in the law of 3, in Voodoo it is believed that what you cast out comes back to you 10 fold. Therefore one must be very
careful how they use it as it can cause harm to the self and soul.
I feel that with any charm, talisman, gris gris, etc. the power is in the belief...not the actual object itself. No doubt must of us on here have discovered that what we create
in our lives manifests from our beliefs.
