I mentioned this in a different thread and thought maybe I'd see what everyone else said. I have been informed recently of a coven, "The Temple of the Vampire." It appears that this group has gotten spread out enough and know well enough that they were able to have tax deductions and cuts from the US government and is seen as a even a religion now. I am wondering who else has heard of this coven. I am skeptical about their ways and wonder what you think about it. They charge members to join, you must by their "bible" as they call it, as well as other things in order to join. They tell you nothing about it UNTIL you join other than what their main web page says, as far as I can see. A friend of mine has been contacted by them and asked to join and this friend says that they claim to be the only "true vampires," that you cannot be a real vampire if you are not part of this coven. It seems to be targeting newly awakened vampyres and ones that have no where else to turn. I find it rather strange, and more of a scam than anything else. Telling people you HAVE to join to be a real vampire, that you HAVE to join to learn anything about it, you HAVE to pay to join! Just wanted to know your thoughts and opinions on this.

if you ask me it all sounds like a scam it sounds really stupid.

tell that to the government that seems to be allowing them the freedom of religion....

They have been around for awhile now. They attract mainly teenagers as far as I know. For what I have seen and heard they are nothing to pay any attention too.

sounds an awful lot like a money making scheme. Possibly an effective one, but still a scheme.

As soon as someone says in order to be authentic, you HAVE to do it MY WAY (and oh, by the way, there's a fee), it's most likely crap.

I think it's a hoax... I mean a temple ring and medallion? sounds more like one of those clubs you join when your a little kid with the book orders and they keep on sending books and you keep on paying

A true vampire does NOT have to be a part of anything. You need no dictations, you are who you are.

Good point, it almost seems like it's only one step (or a couple) from "We're the only true vampires" to "we're the only LEGAL vampires"

thats how it works. they DONT tell you much UNTIL you join, just like ANY secret society. its not that gay, its the money part and the "only way" part that makes me wonder, but I also wonder how they got it past he government. and i know it says that they dont do any blood drinking but they recently went to the government and amended so that it is indeed their religion and recieved permission to drink. At least from what i hear.

Along side the original topic, I would also like to say that because this group has been given religious rights, and the government apparently knows that they drink blood and are "real vampires", would that mean that vampires are being recognized by even the government, that the world is possibly opening up, or might there be some foul play? Secret societies can get people high up...

I've read much about TOV, they were the first thing I ever found in the Vampire community. Before coming here or ever speaking to another Vampire.

They seem like they are only in it for the money. Many of the books I have read on energy work recently have always said to steer clear of TOV.

The US government giving them the ability to establish this church doesn't really mean anything.

Freedom of Religion which is fading, so having a corrupt government accept TOV doesn't really make them a real religion.

That's just my opinion though. I am going to find a way to get ahold of one of their Vampire Bibles, somehow, just for a fun little read. Then I will see how crapy they seriously are.

I'm an ex-member of the TOV, and they speak of the vampire as one who puts themself first and gives of their energy to bring the true vampires spirits to themself so that they may make something happen.

I still have my Vampire Bible around somewhere, which by the way, I did NOT pay for. It was given to me in exchange for something by one of their higher members.

The main claim that the TOV has (this is from the man I speak of that gave me the Vampire Bible) is being a nonjudgmental family who will always take care of you.

Rather like a cult in fact, though claiming to be nonjudgemental and then judging blooddrinking vampires as fakes is rather like a cult saying that doing something society says is wrong is actually right.

Just my two cents. And to be honest with you, it's not a scam, it's an offshoot of LaVeyan Satanism. Most of those I know who are part of TOV began as LaVeyan Satanists. I've heard that the Master Vampire himself began as a LaVeyan Satanist, but began wondering about other things he'd noticed, and branched out, and founded the Temple.

And to be absolutely honest with you, I'd rather not think of the Temple. I just wished to let you know what they truly claim for the members from the inside, but now I'm going to stick it back in that locked compartment inside my head labeled "Stupid Shit I Did When I was Younger."

I truely think any society that say u "have to pay" to be a part of it should not be given any rights under a religious act. Any moneys given to a religion should be a donation and not mandatory, therefore if it is mandatory to pay then it should be mandatory taxes based on that city or states tax laws.

So far I wasn't impressed with them. It's an interesting offshoot of Levayn Satanism, yes. But with all due respect, the snooty attitude puts me off, along with the idea that you can't be a member unless you pay X amount of dollars. Any "religion" that does that raises red flags with me, no matter what it is.

The idea that they are recognized by the government is no big deal either, welcome to the first amendment, freedom of religion (while it lasts).

Let's get down to brass tax. You don't need to join any group to be a vampire, and no one has all the answers no matter how old or knowlageable they claim to be. Use some common sense, and take the time to do some research.

ok, lets get off religion and money and say secret society and money, and vampirism was never seen as a religion as far as i know, though it might have been, until now, so that means that as vampires many of us can claim these things, create covens, become a real religion. Or we can sit back and say, let them beal with it, they suck....a new delima, let an "iffy" group do its own thing, or try to use there accomplishments and gain our own religion, a NEW religion...an new era of humanity, a rise of vampires....

sounds like a major scam to me. They just want to make money and since being a vampire is not so mainstream some people do not know where to turn to when they discover this. And if they hear of this place first they might believe them.

Its something meshed up in the vein of ancient astronomers theory, vampires & a good number of mysticisms embroiled to give it the appearance of a religion.

What I find sad the this temple is that it claims to be everything, especially noticable 2 things a religion & a secret society.. With all due respect, you either are one or the other but not both. A religion preaches its faith not sells it. A secret society doesn't advertise to sustain itself & most importantly, what kind sort of baptism or initiation is buying a "bible"? ... I"m scratching the surface here & leave the rest to your thoguhts.

And as you probably noticed, I'm very tired. So it really doesn't take much to make sense of this logic.

I ran across a site today during some reseach...that had info on all kinds of covens across the nation..Along with the vampire bible you refered to..i can check exaclly what sites i was on and get back to you if you would like...

All religion is about product delivery..thats what preaching is. Selling it doesn't cheapen it one bit. Noble ambitions alone don't put food on the table. I don't particularly agree with their viewpoints, but you would be not so apt to discount them as a religion if you knew more about what LaVeyan Satanist's consider a "religion" to be. Whether they are correct in this or not is of no account, either way. The Masons are a "secret society", but we all know about them right? They charge fees too, just like the Catholics, or the OTO. The fact that they recruit does not demean them, it's only logical. You can either swallow the pill they give you, or move on to greener pastures.
