I found something that I have long wondered about: Blood Magic.
Life is intimately connected with magic. In some cases, they can be treated as the same energy. Blood represents life force, and thus can be used to power or augment powerful magics. The price for this power is life, one drop at a time, and the raging torrent of power created by sacrifice is mighty and addictive indeed. Blood magic is thus intimately connected with life, and with death. Ultimately, blood magic is power. It is no more good nor evil than any other form of magic.
I would like to know more about it. I found a page concerning it, but it mostly about the history.
Anyone know more about this?
not real sure how it works.. but i know that it does.. it was part of a spell that i did that bound a friend and i together.... it has kept us connected in a way that no one can seperate..
I know there were rituals that you used to be able to perform for many things.
So I know that there is still a binding ritual that is in use.
do you know of any others?
I believe that Blood Magick is the most powerful magic out there. I have used it only once, and it produced instant results that caused me quite a lot of pain in the course of years.
Basically, any ritual in which you use blood (yours or otherwise) would be deemed "Blood Magick" in my book.
The best way and most effective way to use blood is fresh. That is straight from the tap. Don't collect it over time, and don't use a previously dead animal (if that's your thing, not mine). In Voudoun a chicken (or other animal) is torn apart while alive in some rituals, and the warm blood cascades down the dancers faces.
Writing your spell (intent) down in your own blood works beautifully. Some witches write their whole Book of Shadows that way.
If you want to find out a bit more, I would say hit up the internet by typing blood + magical properties. That might help.
LeFemmeAbsinthe:
Actually, I found a few pages about Blood Magic.
But mostly I found that it is concerned ancient. None of the sources I found stated if it was still being today. That is actually my question, and how is been used.
I know like all magics, it is niether good or evil. That would depend on the practitioner.
I really don't know much about blood magic either, and I am interested to learn more.
Perhaps that is the origination of the saying "blood is thicker than water" came from? Just a thought
I use it a lot. Most of my spells actually. My fave has to be a protection spell I cast on my sister. She has made it through some extraordinaryly hairy situations unscathed. I have others though one never reveals their grimore in entirety. One spell is enough for now.
I was always under the impression that Blood Magic was the same as Thaumaturgy?
blood magik is mainly a way to make your spells more connected to yourself, its a mind game. much like when women believe that when they have sex with someone theres a "connection."
Yugvayne:
I understood the first part of your post.
What were you taking about in the second? Did it have anything to do with the topic?
well darling you have explained it better then n e one else in this life time and yes that is true but you forget that if you miss use the power it will come back on you 3 fold and it could take your life... but if you use it well your or someone you love will have a better or easier life...
I was actually under it's influence, unfortunately, by a trolly little man who I despise. He started as a friend helping me and it's a mind trip how freaked out the reaction really can be, and I for one am an absolute skeptic on it.
I couldn't tell you how many personal cleansing rituals it took me to get rid of the residual, and in truth I'm not sure if it'll ever be removed.
Unless you either know someone who could show you first hand and the proper ways to use it, or you yourself are a competant witch, spell castor, however title you prefer, I'd say don't do it.
This is just my two cents. I absolutely agree, it is only as good or bad as the person using it.
The blood is the life. It says so in Scripture. Blood has essences, which vampires require. So to use one's or someone else's blood in a ritual of magical purpose would be a matter of sense, for the power flows through the veins.
This arcane discipline is very dangerous for obvious reasons (what good is a magical enchantment when the sorcerer is dying) and who knows what may show up, masquerade as whatever entity you believe you want to witness, or general, deceive you.
If you learn to listen to the blood, you are on the way to unlocking its secrets.
Blood Majik is often used if you want to create a perminant effect. It has been used to bind friends and curse enemies.
An associate of mine uses it fairly often.
I have used blood magick since highschool, i dry and crystalize my moon blood, dont be grossed out, although i bet at least a few of the VR members have earned there redwings!. i plant it into my personal candles when i do a fertility rite, i also have used to to be a physical link when concicrateing my ritual tools. my Anthame is stained with my own blood i keep it on there because its a link that i can tap into easier. I put a little of my self into most ever spell i use. many good results. I also have used blood drinking, as a way to bond me and my sister witch beckiboo, as a perminate commitment cerimony. well thats my take on it.
The use of another's blood is often a silly manner in which to concoct things. The use of one's own blood, however, is a true zero sum.
Idbeholda:
I know I often ask questions of you, but I do not understand. What is Zero Sum?
Most Powerful Female Blood Magic as is some War magic.
Dark Blessing's,
KA
Anuat Egyptian Goddess of magic and war also horse's, she requries a blood alter
KA0000:
I must thank you again, for the information you have provide.
As far as Annut goes, is there a reason she required a blood alter?
Most blood rituals went out the window when blood sarcifies ended. The church saw to that. On a large scale anyway. They do show up in personal lives. When personalizing your ritual tools, some blood is used. Although any bodily fluid is used, some do still prefer blood. This includes menstral for the women. When I dedicated my BOS, I did seal it with blood. (Use a pin - tacs are painful!) When ever you wish to really "seal" something, you use blood. But only if you really, really, really mean it. There is also "blood oathes" and "Blood brothers." Because of todays health issues these are rarely being done now. - even in close Covens! So please keep your blood to yourself. Play it safe.
BillytheJust:
I was interested in the practice, not necessarily practicing.
But it always good to have a reminder.
Anything having to do with a transfer of blood can dangerous.
Sorry.
I didn't mean it to sound like a warning, it's part of the reason why you don't see that practice out in the open anymore. Adding blood in ritual always meant that little extra or seal or offering. Nowadays we just use other things. Wiccians use dragonsblood for the extra push, to seal something they use attributes and intentions with chant, and offers vary widely.
BillytheJust:
Thank you for the clarification. Though I still think, I will leave the magic to those who know what to do with it.
An interesting question, which I thought might be easily answered, but it appears that there is precious little information on such acts, which is not founded in a role-play or sexual fetish experience.
Of the few ideas which I was able to come across, only two had any real relevance for me.
The first being that any substance may be imbued with an appropriate symbology within any magickal rite, informing the user that it has power in iconology, through both the historic attachments to it's perceived 'power' and also, within the newly invested idea that it holds such influence over the magick worker themself.
The other, was in a semi-medical practice, which, while not pertaining to anything mystical, was seen as such by Cistercian monks, first employed in the 12th Century. The idea being, that the release, or 'letting', would allow for poisons to exit the body.
There are some references to it being used in a semi-spiritual cleansing manner, but nothing concrete.
As an aside, I have known of a need to let blood from people after 'heavy' energy work, where they fail to ground it properly, resulting in incredibly painful blisters of poisoned blood building over areas of the lower back.
I have only seen this in a few instances however.
well frm wat i no is blood is everythin in this world or any other blood is life blood keeps us alive dats wat makes it all powerful thats why blood rituals are powerful coz blood means everythin to how we stay alive and keep goin without blood we wud not be livin nor the livin dead
i hope dis helps u in any way possible
love to hear frm u to find out if it did
After reading all the posts on this thread, I did my own google search for blood magic and found this link:
http://ancientfiles.dumpshock.com/Blood.html
Now while it has alot of ancient history regarding blood magic, it also contains a blood oath and the responsiblity of those taking said oath, and a few blood spells that could very well be in practice today. As well as other interesting facts.
I found it highly informative even though it doesn't directly answer the question of are blood oaths being used today.
Aoibheal:
That is the same page I found. I read over most of it and it seemed to be a page that was more of roleplay. Going by the dates and the history of civilizations that were mentioned.
I will definitely go over the page again.
Very true...it could be for rollplaying. However, I am intrigued by the Blood Oath, Blood Charms, and Spells that use Blood Magic. These could very easily be adapted for use today.
I also noticed that.
Here is a question:
Do you think they may have "borrowed real blood spells and oaths" for this roleplay?
@MistressSiobhan: Zero Sum is an idea that for each action you do, there must always be a consequence, so nothing is lost, and nothing is gained. If done on a long enough timeline, so to speak, one can accumulate enough of this type of energy to manifest rather interesting effects.
As for the ritualistic use of blood, I don't do it often. When I do use it, I either draw it from the top part of the left forearm, or I induce a nosebleed and collect it that way. I prefer a nosebleed for it's mild euphoric effects, and the fact it's a closer medium to the upper chakras.
people dont really do this, do they? and if so, why would they?
Here we go,
Magic, is powerful in its own right. there is no specific type of magic that is more powerful then the other. Its more on the intent and the will of the ritualist who gives the strength to the magic.
Magic, in its self, is natural, in this, it has no good nor evil to it. It all depends on the ritualist and the desires in which the spell forms into.
As I see many people give bits and peices of the knowledge they are either wrong on, do not know of, or do know of, but share only what they can recall, I can say this.
Blood Magic, in its own is like any other ritual out there. Infact you can create rituals using blood. If you wish for more entries please look and if you find some interesting reading, please, send me a link. I would like to look over it and indulge a bit.
Yet, I will give a word of warning, blood magic, is by far, or the word, associated with Thaumaturgy and Cruac, which are both from White Wolf Games.
Please make sure what you find isn't a lemon. I have ran into people in the past that have 'Sworn' by some of the information they got on the net. Only to find out that what is present is crap from a world of darkness book I own.
In this, I do hope you find some interesting reading and hope to, if your willing be able to indugle a bit if you send any info my direction.
With this, please take care and hope to hear from you again.
- Sin
my brother empty is right. you must be carefull when using any kind of magic. unless you know what you are doing i would seriously suggest not using it unless someone very experienced is with you. it could be very dangerous.
Thank you Sin, it’s nice to see someone acknowledge that there are many routes to following/creating magic, and in the same breath have that person encourage proper research on the topic as there are many people who think their magic is the ONLY type/kind there is to follow. Truth is, I have never seen 2 people perform the same kind of magic because their own energies and intents are so different.
There is much on the net, but I agree I have not as of yet found a reliable source of blood magic rituals on the net as of yet. Most of the links I have found have also been in relation to games. Books are a far better source from what I have seen, but they are difficult to find, probably because most bookstores will not carry them.
I know that there are ceremonies that are done in Native American culture, that have blood as a something that given for our people, but I do not know of any blood rites. there were blood oaths or oaths that were seal in blood , but that was long time ago to.
Thankk you all for your responses. As I have mentioned, I am not looking to practice. I will that in the hands that of those infromed and capable.
I found the subject interesting and was hoping to find out more information about it. As, Stabb666, mentioned precious llittle can be found on the subject.
I have used my x's blood to make a likeness of him for a payback spell against him. I do not use it to harm. Unfortunately there are covens where I live where sacrifice to animals are done for rituals and recently people have been sacrificed for their blood and body parts. Its interesting that the police know about it and where its happening yet it still goes on. How corrupt the police can be.
BLESSED BE
Yes many still use this, yet it is mostly for a permanent results and you should be very careful on how you use it, it could turn and bite you back in /at a later date.. Of course as in all spells you should always be careful how you use them and why..
I have used it in a spell and it has held true for many years yet as many have said you need to be careful and be sure of how and why and what it is you are doing or it will have dire consequences ...
I do know that it works. I have used it on several occassions. The power in your blood simply meshes with the magic of your spell and it draws on the spiritual plane that gave you life in the first place. It's a rather interesting subject.
I'm not sure if this fits into your question, but I did view a history film on how the ancient Aztec's leaders would do blood letting to please their gods in order for their lives to be well and properous, so that the gods would be with them to help them achieve success.
I think that some cultures in South America still do this, but I will look more into it and find out for sure.
Blood Magic:n Ancient Magic still is in use. A personal thing how one casts spells, as it must be.
I am very interested in the few responses that alluded to bloodletting. Girls, have any of you noticed the release when you get your moonblood? Me and my ex-a male- both noticed that when you bleed you really do get rid of your bad humours. Modern people have such a disdain for the practice of bloodletting, which was done for centuries, yet I have to think there is so much more to it.
well frm wat i no is blood is everythin in this world or any other blood is life blood keeps us alive dats wat makes it all powerful thats why blood rituals are powerful coz blood means everythin to how we stay alive and keep goin without blood we wud not be livin nor the livin dead

Thx highadder for the comment...
This way it will be more easy to understand it...
RIP
A: Yes, it is being used today, and it is used in magic as a spell enhancer. As to the how, basically, if you want a spell to have "insurance" and for it to happen a little quicker than Spirit would have it, then you add a little blood to the equation. It is the fastest catalyst I know of, others being: dragon's blood (herb), real animal blood, etc. Blood just adds "umpf" to the spell or goal in mind.
Here's another interesting, yet disgusting modern spell which uses blood: A woman can put her menstruation into a potion or food that the object of her affection will eat so as to ensure her connection to this person. Sick, but I saw it in print in a book containing several types of magic so I'm sure that some love sick person would be so desperate as to do it!
that is just insane. I know that there are spells and rituals that ar used to bind, using blood and to create a strong tie. but that one is just really sick.
LeFemmeAbsinthe
I have seen the spell you refer to but as I recall it was just blood not menstral blood, as that would not have the desired effect. See my post above.
Anytime we see someone's book of formulae and think to emulate the formulae therein we must be very careful and regard all points of the spell. There are some major errors in print. And we must all remember that we cannot just pick up a grimoire and start casting spells. All the books on magic of whatever vintage or class can only be used as ideas for concocting our own idividual spells and rites. As all magic is only as powerful as we make it. Each and every spell must be taylor made by the caster for mximum effect.
These are just some thoughts. Hope they help somebody.
highhadder, I thank you for the clarification. but, I can understand wanting to seal a connection but I would think that any use of mentral blood would be disgusting and it takes much to disgust me.
Ah but disgusting in one person’s eyes is power in another. Isn’t that the primary reason to use blood in spell casting? It’s is a powerful substance. I must agree, I will have nothing to do with binding spells, I find that those who need them are fearful of their effect on the world around them. Worst is when they no longer wish to be bound. Freedom seems so much nicer in that light.
i see it as an insecurity in the world around them. if you are secure in yourself then you do not need to bind others to you in the fear that they will leave or not be where you want.
Exactly which is why I am hesitant to use blood magic in any of its forms. What seems right today maybe very wrong or inappropriate tomorrow. It all depends on intent and the type of spell though.
I try not to do blood magick if possible, that makes for a very powerful magick, it's usually irreversible. Blood magick can be dangerous.
yes werewolf people actually do this. as to why i couldnt say. everyone has different reasons.
i do believe that it is an ancient ritual that has been adopted into modern culture. i dont thinks it's used the way it was intended in the beginning but i do believe that it is still used.
ALL MAGICK have been here since before christ has. what is there to notice. it has been the way of life to many for thousands of years.
Well I think that was part of the reason for this topic. Because it is a rather "taboo" topic even in the supposed magical circles of today.
PrettyV: Yes i would agree the menstral bl is ...well, as I stated in my original post this bl has those particular qualities and is really only useful for dark purposes. The "discusting" aspect of it is part of the point.
I think the point to this post is:
as stated - is it used today
and
how
As I mentioned before, I know that there are practices that use blood. I follow my traditional beliefs. I know that there are many ceremonies where blood is used.
Whether it can be called magic is something else.
The key thing is that blood magick CAN be dangerous, if you don't know what you're doing. Just yesterday I performed a cleansing ritual on my house. My blood gave me an immediate effect. In short, my point is that blood magick is best for instantaneous spells and not spells you may want to undo later, which solves that particular problem.
yup ancient magic still used animal blood for spell and rites
This has been very fascinating. I have learned quite a bit. I have no intention of practiciing as I mentioned earlier. I just found the subject interesting. I find that even more so now.
Blood Magic is still used to this day
I have used it myself, it is not that dangerous as everyone thinks it can be.
It can also be very helpfull and lifesaving.
I have used blood magics on weakend animals and have cured them of their ills.
Blood is Life!
Ahh MaximusPain thankyou ... after reading through this post i was curious as to weather anyone had anything nice to say about a magik that predates any of us. The healing qualities far outway any bond that may be created. I also have found blood to assist in healing techniques with animals and human alike.
Also i agree with binding of objects, there is no better way to make your instruments a part of you than to share your "life force" (for lack of a better word atm) with them.
I have found, and i hope it to be true when i pass over, that after performing any sort of blood bond ritual for the healing of others that it is always a good practice to ask the Goddess/God/Elements to pardon the bond created, and to assist in the closure of any debt left owing between Myself and said "patient".
Though i will say that if i am bound to someone and yet i have saved their life then it is a burden i would most willingly carry.
Blood magic is a true neutral magic... It is extremely powerful and is easily turned to the desired effect. But its power comes with its own risks... Blood magic can become addicting, Cutters, whether they are aware of this or not perform blood magic everytime they cut themselves, it is very addicting and very hard to break the habit... Be careful.... And I would love to see the site that you found on it, not many sites bring it up anymore, it has been concidered Taboo, even by magic users, for years.
well frm wat i no is blood is everythin in this world or any other blood is life blood keeps us alive dats wat makes it all powerful thats why blood rituals are powerful coz blood means everythin to how we stay alive and keep goin without blood we wud not be livin nor the livin dead

any magic should be used carefully to my way of thinking.
and after this thread I think all should be at least wary of using blood magic unless you are very sure you know what you are doing.
