The Ultimate Vampire Resource and Directory

There are many movies out there that portray vampires as having the ability to fly. Some of them show the flying vampire as having bat-like wings. This suggests that only those with wings can fly. Other movies show vampires flying without wings. There are some that do not have flying vampires at all.
Do you think that vampires can fly? If so do you think they need wings to do it? If you think they can fly without wings, do you offer any suggestion as to how they do it? Do you have any other thoughts about vampires flying?

Although I love all the vampire movies even the old ones, they are what they are; Hollywood.
Astral Projection, yes; Physically taking flight, no (only on a plane)

There are a few interesting 'abilities' I've discovered, but flying isn't one of them, nor do I know anyone who has found a way to fly either.

birds fly, not people. regardless of other abilities. I believe that is just Hollywood trying to make a story.

I can achieve vertical flight only, to a maximum of around 20 feet above the ground. Anything other than that is permissible if I take the form of a bat.

i don't believe that flying is possible though it would be cool if you could fly

Someone mentionned Astral Projection and I believe that is a valid point. Other than that, myths and legends is what I say.

Modern fictional vampires can fly based on what the ones that made the book or movie wanted to do. Its all in good fun but thats all it is.

Real vampires do not have that ability not any of the other super high powered ones that a few fictional vampires do.

Vampires cannot fly. It defies basic Newtonian Physics...Why would they not apply? The only way a Vampire can fly is if he or she has their baggage checked, no metal on, and is there a few hours before departure.

Vampires can have many abilities, but I have yet to see flying as one of them. That would draw alot of undue attention as well.

Since the day they came out with vampire movies, I remember my grandfather watching the very old ones where they would show you a bat flying away instead of human form. Then they did'nt have the graphic effects that they have now.

iv noticed that in the books and the movies it always a bat, but i wonder

if they can defy physics then yay for them but even though vampires arent "human" they still have the body of one and our body structure isnt built for flight, yes ive seen some levitate but thats not flying.

vampires flying is only a myth to me and it could happen, but i really don't know

Vampires cannot fly because as one said they are in a human body and they are not equiped with wings. I think the flying vampire is more of a symbol of total freedom.

What I think... it That anything can be possaible ..some say you can take flight and other say you cant.
I beleive that if you have what it take and know that it possable then it can be....
I can not fly but i found other thing that make up for that.

So yes Hollywood movies movies are base of false facts but you see in a very one of the movies there always one thing that same the same.

Well now as I mentioned in the original post, some portrayals of vampires have bat-like wings portruding from their shoulder blades. I wonder what the explanation is for why one of the vampires in Underworld Evolution had wings, but none of the others did...

I really don't believe that the physical form of any human or human like creature can fly..... ever. But however you can release yourself unto the astral plane.... but thats a whole different story.

vampires do nto fly but..and its small but here, there is some files I have read and seen about at least 2 person who actually flew or semi flew, they were thrown out of a plane and had to sue a prachute but they took it off and maange to land saflty slwoly gently on th eground so not sure this is related but it seems like it a bit.

The only thing remotely close to flying that I've heard of is levitation. Which is not flying and astral projection isn't the same thing either. Why they associate the bat with the vampire in Hollywood I think is because bats are known to suck blood from farm animals and such, and it's a creature of the night as well. So why not have a vampire turn into a bat.

Vampire movies are great to watch. But, that is Hollywood, not the real world. We cannot fly (although it would be nice), we are not immortal (this would also be nice), garlic does not repel us (good thing, since I am Italian and love garlic), we will not burst into flames upon exposure of the sun (this would really be unpleasant), we are visible in mirrors (although some morning I wish I wasn't), and crosses repel us (nope, hasn't happened to me yet). As I said, movies are great, don't use the movies as a "bible" per se for vampyric behavior. We are unique, just not in those ways.

I think the only way they can fly is through astral projection, just like regular humans.

I belive like almost every one on this thread that the only and most common way a vampire can fly is by astrial projection, i don't belive any vampire could fly unless in a glider

Nothing like movie magic. Dont get me wrong I love vampire movies. But I believe the only flying they may do is Astral Projection.

Everybody can fly. There is only the - rather slight - problem of choosing the direction.
Currently there is down, down and down.

I don't think they fly. I think it's an illusion. I think they just move too fast and it appears as if they are glinding.

vampires can't fly, this is just a hollywood myth....however we do contain more strength than normal humans.

Vampires flying is a myth, I do believe in Astral Projection-seprating from your body.

I believe that vampires can fly but not with wings kind of like a vanishing walking against the wind

i believe that there are vampires out in the real world...in such that there are ppl that drink blood, I dont believe that anyone can fly with or without wings it is just a movie legend thats all

I think it would be possible only with the wing type therory .. other than that I dont think so ..

i dont think that people can fly but it would be so kool
