It has come to my attention that some members have had their passwords reset. We are looking into this. But here is what you need to do if you received the email that your password was changed. Use the temporary password generated and sent to your email to log onto VR. Then follow these steps to change it:

1. To change your password click Edit Profile in the User Menu. Scroll down to the Update Password window.

2. Set your new password to be between 8 and 12 characters in length. A password must be alpha-numeric, meaning it must contain a combination of numbers and letters.

I have also received messages from people who seem to be locked out but didn't get a password in their email. If you know friends, I'm making a list. Please have them email me at yellatrek@yahoo.com and I promise that we'll have it sorted out in no time.

Both my accounts have been reset I have fixed this one's password but have yet to receive an email about my other account so can not even get on that name. =(

At present, please email me at yellatrek@yahoo.com and let me know your account name. I promise, when we know something, we'll let you know. Cancer knows, so it'll be cool in no time, I'm sure.

My other account EnlightenedxDarkness had this problem with no email with a temp password.........Instead of emailing you I hope its ok that I just posted it here.

Yeah, it's all going to be fine. No sense worrying. Just check on your friends and make sure they have passwords. If not, email me.

Please include accurate email addresses with your friends' VR names. Thank you.

Someone has been resetting passwords... Randomly.

The password tool has been changed to prevent future abuse.

Members need to check the email address they have on file with VR, get their new password, log in, then update their password.

Alternatively, they can use the new, updated password recovery tool.

thank you for starting this thread I too was also a victim and I was just logged on jus 3 hours ago...I reset and changed even my email address....do you still need me to message you by email...thanks again for posting this...

The pass word reset function has been updated. Anyone that tries to log in and is having these issues SHOULD reset their password. It is now linked to the e-mail address on file. The new temporary password you will be given via e-mail is generated by Cancer. Then immediately change your password to what you choose. On your profile, where you can edit your password, use your temporary password as issued by Cancer where it says "original" then change it to what you want.

Which doesn't help if the password reset thing doesn't send you an email.

It should now if you try to log in. ;) If you try to log in and it wont let you, you click for the password reminder and have to enter your name and e-mail address....give it a second, and then check your e-mail.

I have gotten messages from people that are logged in that they can't change their passwords.

Mine was one that was reset but i got the temp password and am in now and have my new password.

I did try that.........I never go the email.

I did change my password when I logged back in but it never sent a response to my old email address...then I changed my password again and changed my email address but I still have not gotten a response to my new email or my old email address that I changed it...btw I did get a response at my old email address at 4:38pm central time zone...when it was changed and I could not log in...

Look people, things don't work for some people and not for others.

If you can't change your password when you're logged in, it's operator error.

If you didn't keep an updated email on file with VR, operator error.

If you can't log in with the email generated temporary password, it's operator error.

If you're getting an error message when trying to reset your password ("No such username or email address"), you're entering something wrong. Operator error.

If you have an invalid email address associated with your VR account... Well, lets see, I've only been warning people about this for 3+ years. Operator error.

VR was not "hacked". Someone simply abused an existing VR page. No accounts were compromised. If you followed VR guidelines in regard to VR account security, this issue was at most, an inconvenience.

Here is something many people are also forgetting.

If at first you were locked out of your account and requested a new password on your own, the first email you receive with a password may not be the one that will work. It is the email for the first password reset that was set off by someone else. You need to try using any password you get in following emails. So if you try to get a password say 4 times, you need to wait for that 4th email for a working password.

Also keep in mind this happened to a lot of members so those emails are going to take longer than normal to get to you.

It HAS been figured out. Please follow instructions as listed above. As to the individual responsible, disciplinary i.e. criminal prosecution matters, as always, will be handled internally. One thing people might want to keep in mind is that this website is the property of a single person...fucking with that carries consequences.

My mom is DarkLadyDahlia and she still has not been able to get in and still has not recieved any new password any help on this? She did the whole forgot thing and it said that the password was sent to her e-mail yet it has not been and it was an hour ago LOL sooooo..... Please any advice..

Perhaps advise her to try again, this has been a site wide reset and this is a very large site...OR if she is sure all was entered correctly, to just WAIT for the message/password to be sent.

Joli i just spoke with BornFromDeath on IM and they are locked out as well. Have not received a password i had them check their email. I told them to email you and gave them the addy. Thought i would let you know.

ok After about 3 trys and 2hours to get the last temp pasword i'm back in but one of mY Coven members DarkLadyDahlia still has yet to recieve 1 temp pass and she has been trying for about 3 hours she done the whole I forgot password thing like 3 times and she still hasn't gotten the first one for the first try

That is what has happened to me Irishvamp, (sorry if I got your name wrong I'm typing from memory again :)

Check you inbox periodically, it will get there even if it don't say that your e-mail/user name, is registered.

It is no longer possible to show your email address on your profile. It's a private-only setting. And you need the email address to reset a member password from today forward.

my friend IWillDie is still having issues getting in and is no longer getting emails with a temp pass either.
