There have been many movies depicting vampires. However, it is up to interpritation as to whether or not this is an accurate representation. I, for one, feel that Hollywood's general version of the vampire is over done and too fake. It takes away the mystique of the vampire and as a result, the vampire ceases to be a creature feared as it once was. Yes, there are a few exceptions, but I am focusing on the average reprisentation. Please, do share your opinion on this topic with me.
hollywood does have that tendency...however the are just doing what they do...evntertaining people....and their version is for the sheep like masses and intended to do nothing more than sell product......we are a community...they are a business....
BAAABAAA to the sheep
but then again....many would not understand what they were without hollywood giving the push to look into things deeper.....so it does end up a double edged sword as it were
Here's an idea if you meet 1 face to face ask him
"Does Hollywood mirepresent you?"
tell me what they say
this one seems interesting is this what you were talking about Dami?
it is very interesting,, something to pounder and come back too
i believe that they have blown out the extent of the myth of the vampire and that they should get back on track...
At the end of the day, all myths about vampires are just that! No one truly knows/understands what a vampire is like. Personally, i would sway towards them having many human traits.. But like Daermon says, that would hardly flog movies which is what its all about.. if you want the classical vampire, sod the blue screen movies and read old classic books like Dracula and such..
Great topic! Here's my two rupis:
Hollywood, in the last 10 years, has pretty much embraced (pardon the pun) the vampire as exotic anti-hero. The last movie that I can remember that had a vampire as just plain evil was Bram Stoker's Dracula...no, scratch that...Dracula, in VanHelsing was pretty damned evil. But, you weren't scared of him. He was still allurring. The only recent movies where the vamps were totally evil that I can recall are "Vampires" and "The Forsaken." And the vamps weren't very scary. Harry Konick Jr. did NOT scare me.
Even in movies that have "scary" vampires, there is always the good guy vampire as the hero. Blade, Underworld, Queen of the Damned. Those just scartch the surface.
The original Dracula touched upon the vampire as seducer and you almost want to like the guy. But, he's evil. He literally is the spawn of Satan, right? So, not an anti-hero.
I think we're all waiting for a vampire movie that scares us, again. I know I am. With the technology, today, they could do some very nice stuff. Bring back the scary vampire!
I agree Jason, growing up I always thought that Vampires were supposed to scare me, make me afraid to be out late at night. Make me want to always wear turtleneck sweaters so it was harder to getting bitten, after all how many Vamps want a mouthful of wool. But seriously, I don’t' think it's just Hollywood though that has faded the lines of what vampire is "supposed" to resemble. I think many authors have distorted Vampires and turned them into some supposed drop dead gorgeous creature of the night who only seeks to posses beautiful women (or men in some cases) and turned the whole bite thing into some kind of x-rated erotica bliss. Correct me if I'm wrong, (yeah bitting can be a nice turn on, but a true bite), has anyone ever been bitten by a dog? I'd think that a "real vampire bite" would be much akin to that ... versus some sexual orgasmic experience. Bring me a truly scary movie that makes me afraid of the dark again.
hollywood does do some research into whatever they make a film out of, they maybe dont look far enough back into whatever records there are but for the most part they get most of their information either from the internet or from books.
i agree though that they are just a business just looking to sell a product at the end of the day.
i think that some novels or some movies, even rp games, aren't that off from the truth. I think the idea is to put out the idea of what a vampire is, to the masses, and see how they react.
I agree, some novels and movies do depic some of the vampire lifestyle but twists its image to appeal to the public and make profit.
I agree. The movies and novels aren't that far off but they are getting a little side tracked.
Hollywood is concentrating more on vampires supernatural "powers" now than the actual essence and presence of the vampire.
well if people decided to make a movie based solely on what they view a real vampire is....it might come out to be boring, so hollywood and novels and such created them to be evil-like and exciting. People fell in love with that then, so...why is it such an issue now?
Movies are just that-entertainment. I fully enjoy vampire movies, but take at face values for fun. Most represent them as evil or sexy, or both. Evil can be seductive,no?
hee hee esp if your a goody goody attracted to dark natures like moi. *winks*
