Not-with-standing the fact that the ancient Viking view of cannot exist, do you think that there could be such a place entirely seperate from a Heaven or Hell?

Where there might possible be fallen soldiers or warriors who, through training or learning or such, may be preparing from some sort of oncoming Apocalypse?

If so, do you think, perhaps, that this is something only a select few [the soldiers] can experience, or is it our destiny [our meaning human kinds] to end up here when we pass on?

Just so I'm clear and no I'm not making fun or anything but is Valhalla like on Charmed that one time?

It was, yes. The place where the soldiers ended up thanks to the Valkeries.

To each interpit thier own. Unfortunatly many cultures have there own interpitation of heaven. And these are all based on the cultures and social climate at the time.

Valhalla is one of them.

A culture based on war. Where Struggle and conflict was the way of life. Would heaven be anyless?

But as for the question. Do I believe there is a seperate divine place where special warriors to be untill a comming end of time war? This I could not say. This dwells on the realm of personal beliefs.

And as I said in the begining. To each interpit thier own.

Each society has their veiw of heaven. The Viking culture had theirs. On the feild of battle, 9 Valkyries would ride down and each took a person/cultural hero up to Valhalla when they died.

In Valhalla they would fight all day and have a great feast every night with their god Odin.

Personally think there is a medium only for those who fear they are not fit for heaven. A place to calm the soul and find peace till they find it in themselves to forgive themselves of the sins committed. Then they shall value the life once given and now enjoy the rewards promised.

So, not trying to sound completely uneducated, but I had always been told that Valhalla was completely femenine based and that it was an earthly aspect, not religious or involving heaven or hell. I was taught that Valhalla warriors (women) were dominant over the men and did all the protecting of the people against enemies, tyrants, and other harmful things. I had no idea that there was this aspect of heaven and hell for the vikings but now I know. And thanks for providing the link as well.

christianity has heaven and hell

many other cultures have others! ancient civilisations and many ways of honouring the dead and fallen,

at the end of the day its a belief! all religions are man made, and in my opinion there is nothing like heaven or hell ! warriors die with honour and that honour is carried on in the hearts of friends an family!

i think that all religions are valid to a point and can be tied to Christian, Muslim, and Jewish beliefs.

in the days before the great flood and God destroyed the land angels were allowed to live on the Earth and mate with humans thus creating Nephilim.

i believe that it is possible that these so called Nephilim were the Gods of ancient times. the Bible says the Nephilim were strong willed and hard to kill. they had the powers of angels and the souls of men. if this is true the Gods of Greece, Rome, Egypt, and the Vikings as well as other civilizations could actually have lived.

at the time of the great flood God destroyed them because it was getting to hard to control them and made all of the Angels return to Heaven.

this is just a theory of mine but it is possible. if it is true it could answer a lot of questions.

Valhalla, is just that a place kept aside for those that died in the service of others, the legend says "half to the hall of odin half to the hall of freyja"[till ragnarok comes] these people are treated special because they have earned their place.

"I can understand a belife in valhala but i do not think that all soilders would go there. I like to think that to some extent people end up where they think they are going to after they die.

Then after a while they all realise that its the same place and everyone is like, "oh..well thats quite cool".

And no i dont think they are being trained up for an end of days battle, I cant be doing with all that fire and brimstone and giants...or stuff..."

Some minor ideas on the type of people that go to valhalla,
Must die protecting the weak, They go, they get warmed they get clothed, they egt feed, and the next die the all to well known circle of training, dieing, rebirth and eatting happens, Valhalla is described as a beautiful place, the giants the fire and the like is in the underworlds(yes worlds) of the world tree, if you are an evil person you will go to the norse concept of hel, tortured and the like, if you are not evil, and do not die in teh service of those that are weak, you go to a "paradise" and live in "ever blissfulness", in this mythos of course.

If you wish to learn about valhalla or any other norse mythos, forget everything else your reading, read the poetic eddas.

im also an asatruar, and while im more of a freysman, i do firmly believe in valhalla....
now i have no idea if its what people think of....i suspect that the afterlife will be a surprise to all, but valhal seems a pretty good place to go.

as much as i love norse mytholoigy its only MYTHOLOGY sorry guys but no i dont think it exsists the whole idea of it would mean i had to belive in the actual goods, and the whole concept of god etc i think was a bed time story some guy told to his children to get them to behave

I don't believe in Valhalla, every culture has their own beliefs about the afterlife and they all honor their did in different ways and through different teachings. I do believe in a place that's seperate from either heaven or hell though, but I don't believe it's used to train soldiers for an on-coming apocalypse.

Let's just say I don't not believe in Valhalla. I try to take a Joseph Cambell stance on matters like this.... I think the Norse outlook on the afterlife is just as plausible as any other culture's. To die a brave death, when you are quite possibly at your most powerful.... you are deemed worthy to join the ranks of the Einherjar. This is a wonderful ideal to hold to. Even if the reality were not true, the metaphor is both powerful and valid... and that's enough for me.

The concept behind the great honorable dead, is just that an idea on how they are held in that time, and even in this, a certain amount of respect is given to those in service para-military and military alike, so its echo can be seen there, the common folk may not believe that these persons will go to a secluded version of heaven, but the earthly respect has not changed since the realization of tribal government, also reflected in modern democracy, many of the political leaders, are either well educated, well along in age, or have given service to their country.

your thoughts are your own, but as i cannot prove that there is a Valhalla, you cannot prove there isnt one.

i look at it this way...each belief system to me as about the same plausibility. ergo, im going with what appeals to me the most. if im wrong, ive lost nothing, but i have gained a number of close friends, and great experiences.

if im right....well, ill know that in time.

i will say this ...ive seen some things, that if coincidental, were almost as far fetched as the idea of a god or gods, that made me feel as if a certain god or gods was watching over me.

It seems you did not read my prior posts on this topic, I am a believer of a religion that states valhalla as a possible after life.

All cultures have their own idea of what heaven is and valhalla is one of them and in my beliefs they are all in the same.. Valhalla is quite simply one of the highest honors one could recieve in the afterlife..... Reserved for the few that give their lives for the benefit of the many.... The selfless heroes that sacrifice themselves so that others can live... The greatest of the great... Valhalla would make heaven seem like hell to those who dont know any better... Warriors are remembered as Gods and they deserve all they have earned........

I will agree with the fact that all cultures have their idealogies of life after death, as well as the fact that all religions have their views of heaven and hell. But I will also conjecture that the viking culture, which were the northmen...Viking being a racial slur to them mind you...Were of Pagan origin. Which means they had many gods and goddess's. Their temple of Valhalla, where Odin was throned, is their warriors resting place.

But, the Valkerie were their personal "angesl of death." They took them from the river styx near the cross roads of death and life and took them where they were ment to be.

Let us not forget the idea that folklore stems from myths and legends given to us long ago. The Northmen are a mighty race. There in their mind is indeed a place known as Valhalla. Let us not hold this fact against them on a personal basis.

I mean, how would you feel if your cultures folklore was mocked by society? Taking things for granted seems to be a heavy past time now adays. Do not forget where you as an individual came from within this society, the people that made your heritage what it is in this day and age.

iam sure from the other post what i have to say is not immportant i know that it is heaven for those of the norse culture valhalla all i can picture is valkeries and big tables of lots of food to feast on loki playing tricks and thor striken his hammer for atmisphere of thunder and lightning yes and the beautiful way of getting there being set a blaze on a boat on the water :) sounds good to me

Just because you don't believe, does not mean it is not real. It is my personal belief all gods started out with an uppercase "g", but some were pushed into "lowercasedom" as followers dropped off or were coerced into following other religions, even if just by lip service. I am a Theistic Satanist, following the Deity Satan - not the Christian Devil. Because we cannot go back in time, we will never truly know how Gods became gods, but They are more than bedtime stories. Those, I believe are called fairytales.

well I feel that if some one wants to believe that the place exist then so be it, everyone has belief in something even if we do not, so I am sure it exist to many and then not to some..

Actually Jewish Christain and Muslim are the only three religions that have a Jesus and an Abraham.
Before them it was Egyptian and before them Summerian.

Now Valhalla is a place for warriors, as the greeks had theirs. Everyones beliefs are different on it. I actually like the sound of Valhalla over some of the myths and legends out there. For warriors in viking lore were that. They fought, they prayed, they created and moved on.
I feel from the view they come from Odinst and heathens if you will have something to offer that no other religion has. The will to be something different.

Whatever the belief and religion and whatever your view we are all just a beautiful mess anyways.

speaking as a germanic heathen, valhalla isnt the only afterlife possiblity. its not even the only one for warriors. the goddess freya has her own hall, for warriors as well. there are other halls for the non warriors,etc.
i feel sometimes that this belief system speaks to me so deeply because of my ancestors....pretty much anyone that has family roots in western or northern europe has ancestors that followed these gods.
