What happened to the mysterious allusions to "Dark"things?

I remember when people alluded to dark topics, they gave the viewer a question. Are they, or are they not a (for example only) a wizard, a psychic, or a witch.

What happened to making people guess?

Instead of parading around with such concepts?

Where has the Mysterious Dark person in the corner gone?

Dab,
are we talking about vampires and sub cultures per say coming out of the closet. instead of hiding in raves and the beliefs that they choose to do. for at some point in time all things fight for a right to have a voice and be seen. as we look back in history many religions and races have fought to be known and heard. and have a right to express the way the world is going. it is only plausable.

If not I seen the boogyman in my closet last night thats where he is. lol

I'm not entirely sure in what context your asking this either. I would agree though that I have not seen many people that incorporate any kind of dark mystique in a long time. To me its a bit disheartening because those are the kind of people I find so interesting. Many people claim to be "dark", but in some of them it seems to be more defined by a mental/emotional state rather than a mannerism or actual external behavior. Thats not to say that a person possessing either trait is more dark then the other, simply that their concepts of it stem from different ideas of the word.

Adding to what I said earlier, perhaps nowadays more people simply associate darkness with internalized thoughts and emotions as opposed to a lifestyle and maintaining a dark persona in the world.

well given point, yet as society deems what is dark, we may not in terms of here form to that. many people have been supressed into thinking the views and beliefs are against culture. yet we are culture in many ways our beliefs and views have the same importance as those who are out there. hiding in the dark and out of society has to the point to bring us out. and be known. it has happened in all fasictaes of live.

How many times van someone hear someone declare themselves a vampire before it becomes mundane, and cliché?

What about doing "psychic" things, insteed of just announcing oneself a psychic?

If some one said they where a writer wouldn't you want to see one of their books?

even if I was a believer I would become jaded on this site. Such shallow claims are either bought wholesale, or simply humored by others. They cannot even tell when they are being mocked.

There is nothing mysterious about such things. It appears to be all about, " Do you believe I am a vampire.. (dramatic pause)?"

"Then you believe exactly how I believe in vampires."

It is so lacking any creativity, even when people ask out of basic curiosity (then they allude to "mysterious" things.

I am sick of all the " I am a vampire crap."

If you identify as a vampire then try letting people "notice it".

All I hear is don't attack me/us for our beliefs..waa is that VERY VAMPIRE like behavior?

What about secret societies advertising slips by people. Amusing once, but not any more.

How would people react to religious people pressing their I am gods child?

there is no difference between that, and people claiming to be vampires.

Complete with faction revialery.

I would like to awesome creative presentation about vampires, I have read a few good journal stories.. So I know people here are creative but man all the people claiming to be vampires need to jump off the " my way or no way" pillar.

dabbler,

This topic is veering wildly.

What exactly is it that you wish to discuss, since you start by asking 'Where's the msytery?', but are now simply posting criticisms of the behaviours of those who claim to be vampires.

Either stick to your topic, or post this kind of rant in your journal please.

Okay Dabbler, I think I kind of get what you are saying.

As far as the mystery, what need is there for mystery on a site like this? I don't claim to be a vampyre or psychic, but it's assumed that because I am on here I either have a great interest in these things or i am one or the other. In the real world (outside VR) I think there would be a lot more mystery (as you call it). There is no safety net to catch these people when they're attacked for their beliefs. At least here we have the handy dandy BLOCK button and friends with like beliefs to back us up.

VR is a COMMUNITY of like-minded people. There's no reason to hide anything, no mystery required.

We are all here to share and express ideas and perhaps make friends. You can't do that if you don't tell people what you are.

the once theatric/creative element of things vampire and the mysterious nature have been turned fad, and pseodo academic. The air of athority on all things vampire/mystic/psychic and such where once "secret" and presented only in allusion. Even the role playing system has a masquard.

When did it become popular to not just be a persons, with a vampire persona
And become a persons identifing as a vampire/psychic/mystic.

Sorry Dabbler, I guess I missed the point.

In regards to that... I would attribute it to our ever-changing culture. I haven't figured out how yet, but it's something to do with that. I'll get back to ya on that.

Actually I'm taking that back.

I'm thinking that in this day and age people no longer feel a need to hide things which they really believe they are. What was once considered taboo is now getting down-right mainstream in some cases.

Our society is all about BEING now, not impersonating.

the creative frontier appears at times to be tread barren. Following vampires involves, oral traditions, early written tales, genre theater, now or appears the next frontier would be assumed persona. Or idenifying as vampires, psychic, mystic. Things once attractive for the subtle presence.

well speaking of the mundane, of course many people on this site will claim to be a vampire and will get offended if you try to say they are not. so would that not make this the perfect place for an actual vampire to come out and say that he is real and of course we are supposed to decide wether or not to belive it.

i think society on all realms of culture have worn masks to escape from pressures of the hustling society. this happens on all levels and not the vampiric culture. it is a release to our minds and thoughts. just like as kids we played army soldiers or cops and robbers. the "secret' as said of the vampiric culture to no longer become an illusion but now a trend in the vast world. a mask of the person that once was make believe in sorts as taken on the persona of everyday life. I have never claimed to be a vampire, but the intrigue and the folklore has brought me hear to learn and study to say more on the different aspects of th culture that is moving across all land in the world.

Sticking to the original topic/quetion, what exactly are you looking for, Dabbler? Are you saying, those that are truly vampires should keep quiet and keep others guessing as to whether they are or are not? And if so, how exactly are they supposed to do this, what do you suggest those who claim to be vampires, do or say?

You stated above,

"I am sick of all the " I am a vampire crap."

If you identify as a vampire then try letting people "notice it".

You're on a website that is primarily about vampires, and you're sick of hearing about it? What would you expect to find on a vampire site?

If someone identifies as a vampire, how do you suggest they, "try letting people notice it", if they're to keep quiet about what they claim to be and keep people guessing?

It is the desire of those who Identifity s vampires to be the absolute reference to vampire. Yet they present no concise accounts of their structure of belief. I never read anything about this being a site for people who identify as vampires, I read it as a data base for vampire lore.

Not a site for envy of people who identify as vampires.

What is it those who identify as vampires hope to acheive here?

Are they seeking basic tolerance?

Would not a site for people who Identify as vampires be more desirable?

it is not like they only get flak from non-believers, or those they fail to press their identity on.

So this use (People who identify as vampires) against them (people have a creative interest in vampires) projection is just stale.

Correct but when it becomes a battle ground for "we are more True Blood than Thou" it really gets redundant.

Though I admit I would follow a thread geared to such a "show down" I would like to see a thread with creative presentation of vampires..

Ok I have an interesting question, I believe has been passively addressed in other posts, but I am looking for a more complex answer. I have often heard vampirism is genetic, somewhere in the beings genetic code, but there is no proof found that can prove that.

So first my question is; is it possible a vampire is actually determined by the soul that lies within. I’m talking about those who are vampire, not the fictional character.

Second if this is the case which would explain why genetic tests don’t show a difference in the genetic code of those who are vampire, when they pass on wouldn’t it be true that they if born again or moving to another plain would remain a vampire? Thus my theory if the soul determines a person to be vampire is it safe to say once a vampire always a vampire?

I’m interested in all opinions of this matter.

Dabbler,
I think the reason we dont have the mysterious dark person in the corner anymore because in today's day & age we are more acceptable of differences of people. No more does the dark stranger feel they must stay concealed or hide due to prejudices and prosecution.

So there is no more mystery any more? People want to take things out of the shadows (where they had an aire of mystery, and banner them about.. how egotistical of them. like people that take things once taboo, and put them on parade. It attracts the fad interest, then when the fad interest overshadows the identity group they are turned on as determental to the existence of the whole, those that prefer their practice in the taboo setting are slighted in such "Revisioning projects".

True, the site is a database for all things vampire, but the forum is a place for discussion for the same.

"Would not a site for people who Identify as vampires be more desirable?"

There are several people here who identify as vampires, or with the culture. Are you suggesting they go elsewhere?

I agree, not everyone who claims to be a vampire, really is one, but what evidence to you have to negate their claims?

And now you have another question,

"So first my question is; is it possible a vampire is actually determined by the soul that lies within. I’m talking about those who are vampire, not the fictional character."

In this question you're asking in reference to real vampires, not fictional vampires, yet you don't even believe they exist to begin with nor should they make claims they can't back up with proof! this makes little or no sense.

The questions do not cease to exist, even when one accepts the projected identity. Turning the matter around, is not going to work here. it is not a matter of prove that something does not exist, it is a matter of prove, or present a compeling case that something does exist.

Coming out as a vampire seems a little fad, I get the impression that people want others to avow their identity is simply so they (the person that IDs as a vampire/psychic/mystic/necromancer can present that as "Well so and so believes me." But first they need to grill the person for specific beliefs. It is factions and sects from there on in. See how the cycle falls apart? The mystery which is a commonly agreed appealing factor in most things super natural. Is lost, and replaced with something no better then a fad collective, out to "out shine" the others with the same Identity claims.

Yes, some may make the claims for attention, or as a fad, while others take it more seriously. How is the mystery lost if the fakes or posers reveal no evidence of their claims of vampirism that satisfy your curiosity? If those who make claims are acting, does this mean the truth doesn't exist, or that vampires don't exist?

I guess what it comes down to is this for me, is it the persons assumed identity they are presenting first, or their person? A person that introduces themselves as A Purple people eater, named pete, as opposed to "Hi, I am pete." Then As I get to know a the person I see signs that they may identify as a purple People eater.

Is it not a sub culture? An off shoot of another sub culture? just like any fringe group, their are other fringe groups, some that those who ID as what ever are opposed to, or out spoken against. Example most people that ID as vampires berate role players. people that obviously only entertain themselves with the vampire genre. Some how this is an insult to people that ID as vampires, One is tempted to state that one is most critical of others that project their inner insecurities.

hmmm...interesting question. my response is this:
one can be a witch today and not be burned.
one can be gay today and not be imprisoned.
one can even be a vampire today and not be murdered and shunned.

i choose to live in the shadows, but here....here i can be myself. this to me is a club, a rave, for those of the shadows, those of the dark places, those of us that might be sitting silently in a corner observing the world.

this is OUR place, this is a place where we do not hide, or lie, or pretend to be something we are not.

this site is our nighttime, our dark world.

"Where has the Mysterious Dark person in the corner gone?"

I would say they are still here...making money off the rest of us...working behind the political scenes...causing wars, fueling dissention where it can do the most harm...
the dark person in the corner need not always be supernatural...in the 60's 70's and 80's it was the communist, now it's the arab, or sympathizer thereof...
one thought though...why would something supernatural simply try to fit in to hide itself and therefore retain safety...
perhaps that homeless guy under the newspapers was really a troll waiting for dark....and well that strange feeling you got walking past that dark alley....what made it different from every other alley?...
maybe the gargoyles on the rooftops are gossiping about the local news
