*bump*
I am researching a few things on this tomorrow...
this shouldnt be to the second page so fast
Wow. That is very interesting.... I'll probably end up going to check it out as well...
this is very interesting and i think i will have to check it out too!
very interesting.....I am interested in hearing more of this...
Okay not to be a thread nazi or anything... but can we move past the "this is interesting line" and start to post some information. I am still looking up somethings to have some facts on what I believe.
Wow, how rude!!!
I happen to think this is a terrific subject in which to discuss. I do not know much about vampires and the like and enjoy learning as much as I can. I for one am looking forward to seeing what else people can find on the subject.
I wonder myself as I read the information and some other things I have found. If it is true that the older a Vampire is the stronger thier strengths become then he very well could have been the first Vampire. Espically since people were terrified of him and would not kill him themself. But, then again while reading these two paragraphs:
This one also has the more specific name of Leacht Abhartach (Abhartach's sepulchre). According to folk tradition, Abhartach was a fifth or sixth century petty king or chieftain with an evil reputation for sorcery. His terrified subjects prevailed upon Catha'n, a neighbouring chieftain, to get rid of him. Catha'n slew the wizard and buried him standing up in an isolated grave; but Abhartach returned the following day and demanded a bowl of blood, drawn from his subjects' veins, to sustain his corpse. Catha'n killed and buried him again, but the indefatigable man reappeared, demanding his cup of blood as before. Catha'n now consulted either a local Druid or a Christian saint-- there are variation in the tale--and was told that Abhartach had become one of the neamh-mhairbh (the undead) and a dearg-diu'lai' (a drinker of human blood).
He could not be killed, but could be put under restraint. He had to be run through with a sword made from yew wood, buried upside-down surrounded by thorns and ash twigs, and his grave surmounted by a heavy stone. Catha'n followed these instructions and the people of Glenullin ceased to be unwilling blood donors. In 1997, attempts were made to clear the land; in conformity with folklore, workmen who attempted to cut down the thorn tree arching across Abhartach's sepulchre allegedly had their chain saw malfunction three times. While attempting to lift the great stone, a steel chain snapped, cutting the hand of one of the labourers, and ominously, allowing blood to soak into the ground. Mr Curran himself suffered "a severe and inexplicable fall" after visiting the site. During a lecture in 1961, the Registrar of the National Folklore Commission, Sea'n O' Suilleabha'in, mentioned a site which he called Du'n Dreach-Fhoula (pronounced droc'ola) or Castle of the Blood Visage.
I wonder as to how the simple blood of a mortal would turn him immortal. To be that would just not be enough. Its seems as though there is a missing link somewhere with the story. If you could be immortal just from the drink of a mortal then there would be alot more immortals running around.
Ok... not that I say a whole lot to AngelPie.. but girls gotta point there.
Right on.
Moonie: BLESS YOU.
I dont have anything on this subject and its not often I actually read the entirety of some of these threads BECAUSE the posts are so long...
But this one I read.
This one I liked.
I'd like to see more as well as what people (with several exceptions....O_o) think... in a rational, educationally controlled manner.
;)
Right on, girls.
Irish folklore is always based in fact: Leprechauns existed, and far from being evil, were butchered for their gold and their property by tall people. And then tall people depict the dwarf as sinister! Let's look at the hall of fame for evil wizards: Abhartach, Mime, Rumpelstiltskin, the whole race of Leprechauns. I am not paranoid, but I think that one height challenged group is over-represented here. Sigh, the cow's milk's sour, let's round up the usual suspects, and out goes the net for dwarfs.
Hecks Dami! guzzhar! this site is less than 20 miles from me, and I never knew about it! wow!
*Emmy lifts Dami and gives her a little swing* Yay doll, I must get over there and take some photographs!
that is really interesting man really i think that is aweosme!!!!!!!!
Unkyjuan, you and I are the same: egocentric anthropomorphisms, our minds without refinement but shifty with low cunning. We are also different. I know I have no god-given right to voice an opinion, while you suffer an inability to grasp that one's birth did not transform the world. Unkyjuan you are the definition of immaturity, and it is about time you grew up. Until you grow up you will be forever tied to the lunar chilliness of loneliness.
As for sleeping pills, Dami's thought-exploring monologues keep me up, they are so full of vivid sensousness. Dami I find your bedtime stories the most attractive.
How did I miss this thread? This is a fascinating piece - thank you Dami, for taking the time to research it and then to post it. I have something to research tonight. *grin*
I do not have any research to back up my beliefs that I can share with you. My learning and knowledge comes from ancient texts that are not even in my possession, they must be under lock and cover when not being read by elders. My knowledge comes from ancient hand written record-keeping. I believe that there are different tribes/clans/households whatever name you wish to give it.. with vastly different histories. Praytell dami darlingk.. just because one cannot give a website.. does that mean their history is not to be discussed? btw.. You go countess.. be the thread nazi lol. helps keep out the rif raf. sorta.
so is anyone going to actually answer the question?
personally... i don't think that "vampire" has any set format or specification. and this story is simply another piece of questionable evidence towards building a picture of the "first"
dracula by stoker was fictional and really shouldn't be taken into account. the story of lilith is also questionable. supposed to fit in with the bible (a big questionable thing in itself) but it's cut out from the bible and has other stories with it.
to be honest. the only particular aspect of vampires that are true are that they lack energy.
that's just about the only quality.
Hey Em how about sending us some pics so we can see it.
I'm also like Khay i read but don't really take in many of the extra long threads, and even though i'm on the busy side right now i will be making time to try to research this....thanks for peeking my interest for a change Dami*smooches*
As soon as my studies and the examinations are over I'll get the photos to share with you people yes. Just give me a while to get back to plain sailing over here ;) Then the job is a good one.

All you people said you had research to do.. did you do your homework?
*bump*
It isn't 10pm yet Moonie! :P I don't start homework until the last minute...
Great bumpin' skills by the way!
Hmm... half the sites I want to get on are blocked! I guess the parental block went back on. It's strange that all these occult sites are blocked but, this one isn't...
