Aside the folk/lores and stories discussions about what is real and not about vampires abilities, tendecies and weakness, this question is directed to everyones self identification of one. You consider yourself to be a vampire because: (can choose only 1)

1)You have one/some special abilities: such as agility, strength, enhanced; vision, olfatorial and hearing abilities among other...

2)You have one/some special psychic abilities like mind reading, visions of past/future, sensing of auras/energy, among other abiilities...

3)You are interested in the lifestyle, stories, darkness of what if portraits, fashion, music, art, ideals and society. some/any special ability/ies...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
You Feast on:(can choose 2, except for choice E as 1)
A) Blood [and/or] nothing else
B)PsyEnergy [and/or] nothing else
C) Food [and/or] nothing else
D)Everything
E)No comment

The purpose of this question is to learn exactly what our fellow vampires in the website means when they say what they are, few of us confuse the lifestylers with the fictional/traditional thing, the mortals that needs blood to control a certain thirst, with the other that need the blood to survive. Others which this is not directed feel also free to share any side information or opinion about this topic.

Those that identify as vampires thrive on that ambiguity. It is the hint that it is just too complex for "mundanes" to understand.

So you are basically saying that you do not believe in vampire existence as in the literature dimension, you believe that this group of people that call themselves vampires are humans that feed on little dozes of blood to quench a certain thirst or just say that we don’t understand their ways, but if the whole folkloric and historical description of a vampire is the traditional "bloodsucker" with special abilities and weaknesses are strongly accented by that notion -why would people/vampire of this group call themselves this and not another name like "thirst quenchers" or "modern vampires" for example or something aside from what it is taken as a VAMPIRE persona & characteristics.

Hmm you think is all part of attention and “posering”, it’s an acceptable theory for the most of possibilities, well let’s see other views because for all i see in many profiles here is many people saying they were born like that, others that they awakened and some even saying they were bitten and inherited this thirst along with any/some abilities, many claiming they are what they are but, are they that? or are they something near to that? Or yet something that has nothing to do with that?

The ambiguity serves to prevent too many others "barging" their gig. Claiming complexity serves as excuse to avoid summarization.

Not only skeptics scrutinize those who profess to be vampires, but those who profess to be vampires scrutinize others who profess to be vampires, bickering over criteria. This is reminiscent of elementary school.

Beliefs or traits a person believes themselves to be vampiric, not like the novels or hollywood for they are still mortal and can die.

Traits like sun hurting them or sensitivity
blood or consumption of energy
cloths
livestyle
all of the above.

Too bad I cannot be any one of those numbers...Hard to explain, but looks like you may have left out a few details regarding the information requested from the lists.

I identify from a few of each list save for the 3rd from the first list. This would be a lifestyler reference and nothing else.

Not a vampire here, for the record.

Category 1: There's LOTS of people out there all of that would apply to, such as athletes and sharp-shooters (guns and archery.) not just vampires.

Category 2: There's LOTS of people out there who can have claimed all of those levels of psychic ability, who have never considered themselves vampires. Some of them have even had a fair amount of documentation, some not so much. But really, that could apply to adherents of several religions, including all of the major ones.

Category 3: What categories were you including in this one, that werent covered in the previous 2 categories? Otherwise...again, you could apply what you have listed to this category specifically, to anyone who walks through the door of a gothic-industrial club. And some Rennaissance Faires for that matter.

Why can those who do identify themselves as vampires only select ONE of these categories, and not all three?

For the record, I could say all three categories fit me, and yet, I am still not a vampire.

It looks like you're trying to force the characteristics into a generic cookie cutter role of what an "acceptable vampire" should be. (Just my opinion, I could be wrong, but that is what it looks like here.) and the one thing I have always liked most about the vamps (regardless of whether they are fans, sanguinarians or role-players) is they seem to generally avoid the cookie cutter molds as much as possible.

You're language borders on a slight "us" and "them" language, suggesting you view yourself as a certain kind of vampire, and that others might not measure up to your standard if their answers dont meet your expectations. Again, I could be wrong, so if I am, I apologize. It's merely my own observation. I also think your stated purpose may be a little unrealistic, considering the User Level number I'm looking at is 14922...to get all of those folks to agree on one acceptable standard of vampiric identity seems.....very unlikely.

Lastly....as someone who is not a vampire, given the nature of the above questions...I'm a bit suspicious as to why you would solicit opinions of non-vamps about the vampire identity, lifestyle or fandom. But I'll set aside my suspicion and answer you anyway.

It's my observation that those who seek to take the vampire image as part of their lifestyle or identity are really more or less, making an editorial comment against the society they live in. I see alot of disgust, disinfranchisement, and anger towards what passes for "normal" and "status quo" of the rest of society, and more to the point, a rejection of being It's victim. They're taking power back for themselves, by becoming the "monster" in appearance, that in alot of ways, the "normal society" has actually become.

It's got virtually nothing to do with any "special abilities". It's got more to do with being different and being empowered.

I will agree with ~DecemberNemesis~, segregating individuals into groups seems to always be the case. Certain tests such as this thread is a good example of such segregational tactics. I know this may not be the desired intention, happens all the time unfortunately.

There was a national test that made its way to the Rave a few months back that I did participate in...AVEWRS and VEWRS...I think they were called. It was a two part questionaire that took about 6 hours to fill out. To me anywho.

It would seem as though a poll may be in question here.

DecemberNemesis;

You misunderstood everything in this thread to start, and are out of line and reason to the demanding answer it requires, I think if you can read the purpose of this thread you wouldn’t be counter attacking the reason of its creation, I said it very clearly in the last paragraph:

RE:The purpose of this question is to learn exactly what our fellow vampires in the website means when they say what they are, few of us confuse the lifestylers with the fictional/traditional thing, the mortals that needs blood to control a certain thirst, with the other that need the blood to survive. Others which this is not directed feel also free to share any side information or opinion about this topic.”

I’m sorry to say you are out context, I think if you had the eyes to read the whole first two paragraphs, you also had eyes to understand the purpose as well, but i guess you got blind to that part, you may be right, I give that to you, it sounded like the “acceptable vampire or not” questionnaire, but truth of the fact is that it was intended to separate those who proclaim themselves real traditional “vampire” and the sanguinarians apart, mostly for the benefit of other peoples that tend to confuse both worlds and fall into the same dispute in every thread…just look around you will understand, I think you could’ve been more productive in your post rather than destructive with no apparent understanding of the threads purpose, just the desire to highlight what you wanted to say and backlash intentionally, you always said: “you could be wrong and that you apologize”, but you kept on blabbering with an acceptable reason and viewpoints, but not productive to what the thread was intending to gain. Read and reason what the Author ask, and then shoot.

As for this:

RE:”Category 1: There's LOTS of people out there all of that would apply to, such as athletes and sharp-shooters (guns and archery.) not just vampires. “

RE:“Category 2: There's LOTS of people out there who can have claimed all of those levels of psychic ability, who have never considered themselves vampires. Some of them have even had a fair amount of documentation, some not so much. But really, that could apply to adherents of several religions, including all of the major ones.”

The questionnaire was intended for people who self proclaims vampire, Can you read? for heaven sakes, can you also reason? as posted up there “the real meaning of a self proclaimed vampire”, never said it was for you to fill or sharpshooter or archer, or goblins, aliens, or whatever you want to add, I said you could give your opinion about it, or other things pertaining to it, because the whole confusion in the forums is with the proclaiming vampires not your sharpshooters, I found it deeply out of line your whole post and misunderstood to no end, try to read it carefully again and post something more correlated to it.

RE:”Why can those who do identify themselves as vampires only select ONE of these categories, and not all three?
“For the record, I could say all three categories fit me, and yet, I am still not a vampire”
Again you said it yourself if it wasn’t for you, why bother to waste your time, I think I clearly stated:

RE:”this question is directed to everyone’s self identification of one. You consider yourself to be a vampire because:”

On each selection I said at the end, “among other/any abilities”, if you are #1 and have psychic abilities as well then you have #1 and says at the end, “among any/other abilities”, you don’t need to select any other, if you are #2 and have other abilities or any as well, then is embedded in the sentence, don’t need to recur to other selections, I think it doesn’t take that much neurons to administer a simple answer to that simple question, and surely less to understand the purpose of this thread. You didn’t even needed to answer it if you were a self proclaimed vampire, if you just answer like ~Doru~ replied, it was more productive in every case than nothing at all or than what you replied for the most.

RE:”Lastly....as someone who is not a vampire, given the nature of the above questions...I'm a bit suspicious as to why you would solicit opinions of non-vamps about the vampire identity, lifestyle or fandom. But I'll set aside my suspicion and answer you anyway.”

RE:“It's my observation that those who seek to take the vampire image as part of their lifestyle or identity are really more or less, making an editorial comment against the society they live in. I see alot of disgust, disinfranchisement, and anger towards what passes for "normal" and "status quo" of the rest of society, and more to the point, a rejection of being It's victim. They're taking power back for themselves, by becoming the "monster" in appearance, that in alot of ways, the "normal society" has actually become.”

The reason I said for other to collaborate in the subject is to give everyone freedom to ask and express their ideas about what others replies, to help them clear others of their doubts, no one is excluding, judging, prejudicing, conspiring or anything like that, is just a debate, we wouldn’t have it without people asking or defending their views, it would be all understandings, when really it would just be more misunderstandings, like you did. If people could only reason and read clearly the post you wouldn’t be saying this in here in the first place, because none of what you’ve said was what it was intended in the thread.

RE:”It's got virtually nothing to do with any "special abilities". It's got more to do with being different and being empowered.”

This is probably the only productive thing you said in the whole post pertaining to the intention of this thread, and I believe it wasn’t even that hard to write it, you had to go to all that cloud of conspiracy bullshit of yours to get to an affirmative and supportive statement at the end. Please to yourself and everyone reading this, before you answer something, understand what the others are saying and reason the questions and everything given to it, people get raged and blinded when someone doesn’t think like you do, but you only get lost yourself in it, making look like a fool of yourself.

Another thing if you see that the question posted in the thread doesn’t fill what you think you need to answer what the Author is seeking there is three simple options, 1. You look at it and say this is nothing to do with me or doesn’t hold my expectations or selections for answering it and walk away, 2. you can post a simple reply saying , “hey man I think this is not how it works, vampire this… vampire that” it is more pleasant and productive than deviating from the answers we are seeking, or 3. you just ignore that part and detail what you think as for yourself is the meaning of self proclaiming vampire, it is definitely not that hard, after all I’m not a vampire to know all the questions it requires to ask them I simply go with what I know about vampires in folks, I’m simply trying to clear some rocks in the understanding paths between both worlds.

Any one can self proclaim to anything they want. And as for the real meaning of self proclaiming I think the Wiki or any other source we seek for Def. Is wrong because for what ever reason that person is self proclaiming for personal reasons the explainations to why we find in a Wiki or other places are one mans opinion we all have reasons to our insanity.

Learn proper English GRAMMER before you go attempting to call into question someone else's ability to think and reason, given what content they are handed to work with.

I stand by my statements. If you dont like them, then perhaps you should consider taking a page from your own attempt to dictate to me what is proper and not proper communication skills. In other words, if you dont like what I had to say, then dont post or respond like an arrogant ass.

I for one will not put up with it.

People identify as vampire's because alot of the time they have no control on many aspects of there lives. Which brings them to seek out a way to attain power - by being something that everyone else is not. (Bringing something to table in some sense)
To understand this theory you need to know what a vampire represents. In modern times its all about living forever, money, power, beauty and sex. - Who doesnt want to idenify with that?
However for some (maybe on this site many) Vampires represented creatures with darker instincts. They lived alone, fed from the weak, carving a path through a life they didnt want yada yada yada.
Alot of people identify with that here and they RP it alot in there personality.

So really, the meaning of a self proclaiming vampire is relatiing to either the modern or the original take on The Vampire. I do not beleive that there is a real life vampire living in the world today, i have yet to be proven wrong. Unless you count western bankers XD such the life outa any economy.

I see stark examples of those who profess to be vampires Judge, and catigorize. Example Use of the term Wanna' be', judgements like, "Those who don't believe/accept/ endorse my belief/ claim are afraid, or are closed minded, how about just accepting people who contextualize vampires as the lore presents it, and by the available accepted definition. If those who profess to be vampires expect people to endorse , or" understand them, the whole " maybe those who profess to be vampires don't want to be classified, or catigorized thing, needs to be reconsidered.

It us not only from those who are skeptic, or indifferent that those who profess to be vampires receive "flack" so to press the whole "We are so oppressed allusion is rather telling of the faction that resorts to such pathetic
Leverage plot.

I personally see no reason why Vampirism (Should it exist at all) to be so secret. What exactly would they be protecting? Perhaps, if it did exist, they would merely be...selfish in one sense.

If you cannot accept what you are then you really arent worth the person you have been brought to be.

Well said, Dabbler.

Personally, I like places like VR and the folks who identify with vampires because there is an intrinsic quality the communities share that is similar to the Pagan/Wiccan communities.

Freedom of Identity. For every person who identifies as either, you will have a personal point of view. The minute you lose that fluidity you lose everything that ever made it different and therefore, worthwhile.

If one insists on homogenizing things, fitting everyone into neat little boxes...might as well go back to Organized Religion and a mundane lifestyle.

Just remember one thing, society labels the vampire as such because of the mode of recognition IE the fangs. Some of us do not wear "fangs" at all, but just are.

The "we" does not stereotype the "ourselves" into any group, the individual does.

~Dabbler~ has a clear point that he has brought aboard this discussion and is completely worth a reply. Unfortunately I will not attempt a reply since my feelings are a bit differant than other self claimed "vampires". My feelings in general are of a "not caring" nature to say the least. Carry on ~Dabbler~, carry on.

As for ~DecemberNemisis~, try actually conversing instead of just following into a line of instigation. Insults are not needed. If insults are to be taken place, try to keep it in messenger, it clogs the thread itself.

~FacelessUnknown~ mayhaps we keep secret for a reason...That is not to say that I am not affiliated with any factions mind you...But I use the "we" in context with your response.

It is the same for Freemasonry, our secrets are there for our members themselves of who identities are completely confidental. But, you do not see us arguing about the Fraternity in general do you? So, what is so wrong with one group and not the other? After all, one group is just "not believable" because society chooses not to accept them in their minds? Come now...

Again, are we discussing the ever living "vampire" or the fictional creature? As well, again is it soo hard to come to terms that certain individuals throughout a slew of millions actually carry certain genetic structure, DNA ladders, or Chromasomes within their bodies that make them JUST a bit differant then everyone else? This also goes along the lines of only a few individuals throughout the world being immune to certain diseases and illness's of which have been proven to exist.

No, I am not defending an entire community...Just wishing to understand why certain individuals deem it nessessary to call out those who claim to be at every other turn? Just rambling on in this paragraph...Do not mind me...

No, the individual does not need to be "initiated" into any type of faction to be able to co-exist into any set community structure. Just their presence alone is enough to satisfy a community. Simply like saying that the individual has known someone else for a time of more then 5 years or longer would entitle that individual to be called a "good friend" or "friend of the family." This is how society works...Is this concept so hard to grasp by all individuals? Why always weighing and measuring society based on their classification and or culture?

Sociology I guess is in question...Mayhaps not, but it still ties into my post in the long run.

I personally think a "vampire" wouldn’t be singing he is a one everywhere he goes, that is if their identity is intended to kept secret amongst their community like you guys say in here, like even if you say it you are one anywhere, to some people the doubt will always be there, is up to faith or reasoning of each individual to believe it or not, people would want evidence so others support their statements, and to ask for evidence for one part is disrespectful at the least, and for the other is something required and reasonable for their acceptation, so the misunderstanding between both sides, skeptics and “vampires” will remain active, since both parties pull to their sides.

~Revenous~ it is not like we yell out to the world that we are here. Do you have any idea how many times a week someone just out of the blue comes up to me and asks if I am vampire? Just because of my energies? It is damned sure not the way I dress because when I am at work it is more then professional attire.

As well, its not like I respond to them with.."Why yes I am" or any statement similar to that. I usually look at them and answer their question with a question such as "Why do you ask?" Then wait for their response. Because at times, some individuals do tend to condescend us as I have been witness to on a couple of differant occasions.

I do not associate with the community because of the almighty "spotlight", as I couldn't care less about media attention...This is a simple thing for me. As well, I could really care less about most other individuals either claiming to be, or just roleplaying and or lifestyling the role. Questions are asked and I tend to give answers based on my knowledge of what I have personally gone through with weight and measurement of my own. If I feel like not giving an answer...Then I will ignore it completely. But everyone is differant. As well as entitle to their own views.

Revenous... there is no misunderstanding beween sides. THERE ARE NO SIDES! Snap outta it. Vampire is a broad term pulled from folklore, and literature throughout the years by people to describe things that majority of society may think strange or unnatural about someone. Its a more romantic or mysterious term, therefore more appealing than the truth. Why tell someone you have an immune defficiancy that causes your palor to be pale or what have you, when you can claim to be a "vampire?" it is sometimes more accepting to people to put something into a fantastical manner... reality...no one needs to consume blood to survive. All bodies need energy, we get it from food, we're all human remember. yes, some people are more in tune w/their sixth sense, but thats because they hone it in order to enhance themselves, whether it be how they feel physically, mentally or emotionally. As for others who wanna adorn the "fashion" whatever that may be, (gee sounds like the goths are getting lumped in again), or roleplay...have at it. Get dressed up and play vampire, whatever. get out your Masquerade deck, who cares! Just stop w/the same old stupid interrogations already.

I think the discussion of this subject should be continued in the other thread called -"What is a vampire" by Doru-Which have a related discussion as we hold here, since many find this questionnaire incomplete and presumably hold a stereotypical tone in it, and the misunderstanding is bringing more conflicts rather than what it was primarily intended to pursuit on it content.

markus, what's different about today versus 500 years ago is that such persecution doesn't happen. You're more likely to be ostracized as a "weirdo" or committed as a schizophrenic than you are to be persecuted by those who see you as "evil." Religious persecution is illegal in most of the civilized world. More importantly, people were not killed for proclaiming they were witches. They were killed because they were accused as such, and again, it was an uncivilized time in history where religion dominated culture.

Also, the statement appears to be directed at people online as well as in real life. On a vampire site, it's rather hypocritical to suddenly keep it a secret that "you're a vampire." Of all places one could be persecuted for such claims, this site is not one of them.

Those who would have others believe they are different then others, are in position to provide convincing evidence, they choose not to for whatever reason. So the matter of simply accepting what they would have people simply believe, that which they base their conviction on personal experience is ridiculous, and rather pompously smug.

Who really cares.. Those who profess to be vampires claim to not care what others believe.. I generally ( with a few rather well presented exceptions) find most who profess to be vampires rather condescending, and provoking, perhaps even bi- polar.

Perhaps the community is not as impressed by most claims.

What response do those who profess to be vampires expect? Get an original creative nimeclature already!

It is my conviction that those who profess to be vampires are only professing.. That is my conviction, and just as you proclaim your right to believe (unchallenged), so do I.

My conviction us based on lack of presented support for any claim.

Point taken. I'll try to be less insulting when insulted in future. ;)

I had thought my initial post reply was adequately worded in terms of where I was trying to go with my point. I'll try again.

The criteria as I've seen it, of what constitutes "vampiric traits" bears strong resemblances to a few other subculures not necessarily associated with vampirism. Most of them are.....not mundane, for lack of a better term. I've seen similarities for instance, among the Otherkin communities, and the Indigo Children just to name two.

I was also trying to point out that we dont really have a basis of comparison for some of these categories. Take category 1 for instance. We'll label it "Superhuman physical ability" for simplicity's sake.

What would be the requirement comparison for above vampiric agility, strength, sight and smell? Anyone could say they have "vampiric strength" but what does that really mean? Can they lift a car? Mundane people have been known to be able to do that, under certain circumstances. Can it be jumping 30 feet straight up in the air? That might qualify if it is not something a normal human, even a normal human athlete could do.

Same line of thinking for the rest. I've seen plenty of people claim empathy as a psychic ability, but I've also seen the vast majority of the normal humans I know, who dont claim any psychic ability, display empathy, even extreme empathy.

I'm not actually trying to be difficult, or argue with someone else's claims here. I'm just trying to point out that unless people are going to start posting medical records or vampire pedigrees, (and I dont suggest anyone does.) how is anyone going to be considered "legit" on a claim such as vampirism, that is any more "realistic" than someone who claims to be a werewolf, or a sidhe, or an alien starseed? And what about normal humans who can do all of this and more, on account of just being extremely physically fit, and of an above average level of perception?

I of course, might have explained all of that instead of insulting grammer if I'd just been asked instead of insulted.

;)

I am still wondering if it is actually nessessary for all the nitpicking by certain members in this thread...It is uncalled for.

Anywho, the association which took place in ~Decembers~ Last post seems to represent what this individual deems justified as "vampiric" tendancies as claimed by fictional idealists. The analogy of "superhuman strength" could have gone into a differant direction if another analogy were given...Mayhaps not relating to the "vampire" itself?

On the side note I must give to take away a bit of repetitive nature that keeps being brought forth in past threads is the word "empath". This is not a 6th sense, psychic ability. It is a mental attribute caused by an individuals experience when dealing with emotions around them. The sense of getting used to feeling what others feel is a merit of lifes experiance. Anyone with their senses atune can master it eventually. But, the vampire has this mastered on instinct alone. Thus, many of us do not need to "psychically" train ourselves since it was with us from the beginning. By "beginning" of course, I mean by birth.

Oh, and I only drop short comments of re-iteration to keep members on their feet. Many of whom seem to loose their focus rather quickly in threads such as this.

I myself am interested in the lifestyle, stories, darkness of what if portraits, fashion, music, art, ideals and society. some/any special ability/ies...

I myself like food and blood. I think that just to like blood does not make you a vampire.

I think that the lifestyle you live can make you more or less vampiric, but the lifestyle itself may not be self-fulfilling. I like the vampiric lifestyle, but I am not a vampire. I always have and always will like the lifestyle though.

My observations on the "altitude" of the discussion has reached high. I have also observed in other threads "spikes" of insulting remarks, such remarks are common after a generalized, or critical critique of the generalized statement. This tends to incite an us and them.

In debate formats it us sometimes best to start with what is agreed on.

Those that wish to blur the topic, tend to sit back and watch the fall- out, " Feeding off of it" metaphorically speak of course;)

The one thing about responding to direct or perceived insults, is that one
Seldomly replied to the content, or inquiry presented in the same post as the
actual,implied, or perceived insult.

Your last post was well stated Decembers Nemsis, I encourge other to read it.

"mayhaps we keep secret for a reason...That is not to say that I am not affiliated with any factions mind you...But I use the "we" in context with your response.

Come now..."

Perhaps if "you" or "they" were trying to keep it so secret, there wouldnt be people standing up and claiming to be this type of creature without evidence? I suppose the real difference between "Vampires" and Freemasonry is that the Mason's dont stand up and make themselves known.
Still, The question remains, Why would it be kept a secret?

Hear hear, i back this argument completely. This is basicly what i'm trying to say only in less words XD
This is one of my primary problems with people that claim to be of a supernatural fiber, There is no set "requirements" of what makes one a Vampire. Truth is there will always be conflicting views on the matter and until i see someone live souly from blood for a few months, i'll happily keep my opinion that (sadly) this creature (or MY version) does not exist.

Here ya go..this will let you know if youre a vampire.;)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Answer True or False for each question)
T F I live on or near a Hellmouth.
T F I sunburn instantaneously. And fatally.
T F All food tastes bland except for very rare meat.
T F My face is covered with strange bumps or breaks out in strange bumps when I get
excited or upset.
T F When I check my pulse, there isn’t one.
T F I find myself wanting to kill and drink the blood of my friends, family… even strangers!
T F I can exercise for hours without getting out of breath — or breathing at all.
T F I can smell when toast is burning — a mile away.
T F When I look in the mirror, I am not there.
T F I came home last night in a nice suit/dress, with dirt under my fingernails.
T F I eat food mostly out of habit.
T F I keep biting holes in my tongue/lips.
T F I have inexplicably developed an aptitude for martial arts.
T F Super-strong teenaged girls keep trying to kill me.
T F I sometimes worry that I will look like a fruit bat when I get old.
T F I recently purchased (or stole) a pair of black leather pants and/or a long, fluttery, black leather coat.
T F On Halloween, I stay home and watch T.V.
If you answered True for at least six of these questions, then you are indeed a vampire. Self proclaimation or not.

It is an identification with the nature of vampirism. The real question is why are non-believers on the vr, what is their true agenda ? They are not promoting learning and understanding, just condescending others who identify with a vampire nature.

Non believers, why are people who wish not to be judged, judging people who have an interest in vampires as mythology, and lore present them.

The ultimatums are rather elementary believe in vampires, or leave the site. I have yet to hear of a site designating that it is for people who think they are vampires. Like it us some shame to not believe people who cannot even summarize what they belive makes them a vampire. When they call those who do not accept their unsupported claims closed minded, or imply
They are ignorant, you are likely to get refuted. Why is it that those who profess to be vampires initiate little if any substance to vampire related forums, aside from commenting on the post of people who imagine rather then insist that all things vampire must fit their anal retentive adaptation.

All I keep looking for is some academic links to account for such general claims, even people who identify as vampires clash in forums it is not only skeptics, perhaps if those who identify as vampires started answering inquiries without alluding to some complex esoteric knowledge, alluding to being better somehow to other humans..

I would hope there ate people here who you would question their professed vampirism Doru.. Am I correct? I mean no offense to you, you are one of the few who agree that vampire practices are ritual, and symbolic.. It is more the profession of generic enhancement..( oddly commonly leaving out the vampire weAknesses) Ect.. That soars the matter to saturation jading even the few who do seek to believe.

Some are content with imagining, and reading creative accounts of what others on the fringe profess to be real. Highjacking a popular character type makes me question the agenda of those who profess to be what is clearly defined, then offer no concise definition in place of the one deemed somehow insurecent.

We are not in "Hollywood", it is simply my religion. I cannot answer for the masses, yet if you do not understand my definition of a vampire, you lack the ability to condemn what you do not know. There is an old Latin saying, "Damnant quod non intellegunt", which simply means, "They condemn what they do not understand". Unfortunantly, many things stay the same.

Then what is your "belief"? I mean Christians have their stories and books about their beliefs, people respect them ‘cause is their views and ideals, at the end no one’s belief is absolutely correct with a substantial amount of evidence, but what is the "vampire" beliefs that is so difficult for "mundane" like us to understand? Other than "I know what i am and I’m a "vampire"?" Since any questionnaire can't tell what is a “vampire” for those who profess it, then why don’t they just explain what it constitute to be one? In order to clear the misunderstanding.

I find that it is subtly implied that if one simply subcribes to a persons professed identity, of belief , that they will then be gifted with esoteric knowledge. Christians teach that only they go to Paradise all others go suffer, what does lose by not subscribing to vague belief based Amin assumed identities, based largly on fiction.

I have to go with Doru in that there are those who identify with Vampires. However,I feel the problem lies not in those proclaming theirselves as a Vampire persey, but the lack of solid deffinition as to what a Vampire truely is.Because no one is immortal, everyone gets sick,we all age etc... It isnt hard to see why anyone in their right mind would scoff at someone claiming to be immortal, older than dirt and dead.

No one should impress their beliefs on others, it is their own structure in their life. yet it is done very often, thus forming groups or followers in the practice of societies classes. outcasts from the norm.

I am not out to press someone to denounce their beliefs, I am simply making a point that you need to accept that people are not going to believe you, or be convinced, and that this is not because they fear the your professed identity, or because they are ignorant to something you assume is "so obvious" , it is not because only you can comprehend the assumed complexity of your Assumed adaptation of a fictional being.

True dabbler, others may not believe the others belief, yet that is held in sciectific aspects also. Many do not believe the therios of others and thats why the culture is a disbelief society.

For like religion, politics views of others and knowledge are not on the same level as yours or mine. And because they express the beliefs does not make them wrong or insane. The release all humans deal with or fantasy world or imiagination is theirs for mine is totally different.

the world is not always black and white, many shades make up this colorful world and the answer you seek may never hold a logical answer only to those presenting it.

others find imagination, and creative fiction is sufficent. Others enjoy making believe they are pretend creatures, then their are those who are just to egotistical to acknowledge that they are assuming a role, this is supported by the hostility they project onto those who have a novel acceptance of something a fringe minority takes much too seriously, and personal.

I am convinced some people believe that thwy are a vampire, I will not be convinced, nor do I see any reason to subscribe to such professed identities, my presence on this site is based on an interst in Noir, and Goth taste.

No closer to skeptic, but with ever post that alludes to "how simple it would be to just believe" and how " once you believe it will all make sense ( enlightened or deer in headlight?), Do you really think that just nonbelievers question people that profess to be vampires? Please provide any dated accredited support . Get over the whole people do not believe because they fear your assumed identity, it is very trite, and as redundant as Legos.

i now have true faith that someday i may become a robot cartoon unicorn vampire made of legos

i have gained this faith by emulating the tactics of the mormon church, the nazis of germany, and the velvetine rabbit

i am thankful to my blue-eyed blonde-haired jesus for helping my overcome my cynical follies... now i know it's ALL A MATTER OF FAITH!!!! and that faith has told me i will live forever, require blood to survive, and that sunlight is BAD.

and it's all REAL because i "have" "faith"

This has nothing to do with faith, has more to do with WORDS ASSOCIATION, for example: I can’t just say: “ I’m a hobbit” and be 6’2 tall, dress and act as one and expect nobody ask me why I proclaim myself that, it’s just not going to work, because there are general description and characteristic in books/stories/myths of what constitutes as one, I can’t just go erasing everyone’s image of a hobbit and implant myself in there. Or just go telling everyone that’s just books,” I’m a real thing and you will never understand why cause you are all ignorant”, when someone ask me why I think I’m a hobbit, I can’t just tell them, “well I have faith I am one because I have some things that makes me one, you are just to mundane to understand them, plus it’s my belief I can do what I want”, people are going ask you and you can’t expect them to accept something that you don’t explain with reasonable statements or avoiding questions about it.

In terms of beliefs, may it be religious or scientific theories, most hold historical facts while others hold scientific documentation and evidence, something undebatable for its purpose and you have to respect, 'cause nobody holds the absolute truth of everything, but they have some pieces of the puzzle coherent to each point of view, If we had the absolute truth and proof to hold them, there wouldn’t be any religious or theorycal facts valid at this times, it would all falls down on that evidential absolute truth. In the other hand we have "vampires" all products of lores and myths, idealistic assumptions to profess one itself, what is it so difficult for you to explain why you think you are a vampire? if we all know what a vampire is throughout books? why profess yourself that way? If you eat food and drink some blood that is not a vampire, it’s just a human/sang tendencies, not immortal being /dead/ that lives solely on blood. Don’t set aside “Hollywood” when its something “Hollywood/books” made in the first place.

It seems to me that most of us can relate to one "creature" or another for reasons that are our own.As you know, for me ,its Mermaids.
I think it safe to say that what it comes down to is,again, what our interpretation of said creature truely is.
If a mermaid is a person who ,well, looks like one, loves the water etc..well,why not profess to be one?
Same with Vampires..if one has traits they deem as Vampiric, then, sure ,why cant you be a Vampire.
You got hair all over your face and @$$? Then yes, wherewolve would be a good one for you.Either way, immortals with superhuman strentgh,or half fishes?..Neh.
Perception perception perception.

Nice post Oceanne

Dabbler i am not putting Hobbits down, yes read the book, but you say prove that they do not exist. prove to me they do.

Not picking on anything, would a small man, love the lord of the rings claim to be a hobbit. and this is their belief. by all meas they could be.

Belief in the lifestyle of a person is a trait only unto them. What ever they may believe. It is not my job to conterdick their theory. but rationalize why and what they see from daily life to another realm.

What value do those who profess to be vampires place on nonbelievers accepting their profess superiority? It is seeking submission of critical thinking, you will find me ever ready to refute such delusions of grandeur. Nothing involving beliefs makes anyone better then the human race, nothing you believe will ever change that.

Again I state how obvious the elimination of all the vampire weaknesses is a common practice of those who profess to be vampires. Get a new word already.

Usually they would not profess anythin to skeptics or try to make them understand the reasoning of their life.
Values of their opinions lie within the thoughts of their mind.

Skepticism is basic part of life. whether a mom telling her child there is no ghosts, or no imaginary friends, or taking the kids cape away and saying you are not a super hero.

If parents skeptics do this than how mundane would this life be. reality yet no fiction in books or plays.
would irrational thoughts stopped scientist from claims and theoryies and the dark ages would infact still be here.

Fictional worlds as well as reality go hand and hand in every day society. There is no escape.

No, you missed my point by a football field.

Just because you believe something (imagine something to be more then fantasy) it will not compel others to just forget the dominate presentation.

All the adults who believed the girls that took photos of fairies, their belief did nothing to change the fact that the pictures where clippings from a children book. So if you are only adapting the vampire character, and taking creative liscenses with it Say So!

because others who take it to extremes are really mocking you with their professing super human abilities.. and sensational patter.

I have to say, being a vampire isn't about feeling connected to whoever thinks it cool. Beinig one, it's more about being comfortable being to identify with who you are, and having the restraint to respectfully disagree withthose who say other wise. It's getting old trying to have to explain to people the difference between a blood fetish and a true vampire. Being one doesn't make me a freak who has " Super powers" That's for people who believe the hollywood fascination.

Back on the topic,

logic and contridication, what answers are we looking for.... Self meaning of vampiric life style and belief does not go hand in hand with fictional aspects of the vampire.

Fictional traits of vampires are well documented in books and movies and are ever changing. But traits of individuals saying their are vampires are based on therioes. Yes Therios of beliefs, faith and Life style.

There are also some newer revelations as well..Take Upir's research for example.

So what to do? Hmm,maybe the defiinition of what a "real' vampire is needs to change with the times. After all, with the advent of modern science, modern thinking and such, perhaps its time to take out the old and bring in the new since we know much more about things than we have previously.
Evolve or dissolve.

Simple those who profess/ believe/ delusioned/ ECG. Should get creative ( that means us the imagination that you are too egotistical to admit you have) to come up with a name, other wise you will continued to me nothing more then usurpers to a mythological creature. Face it mans lack of knowledge, and superstitious nature set the foundation for the creature of myth. Those who snide people who place vampires in such context are implied by those who are desperate to be accepted as vampires as some how ignorant.. Like saying, " oh they will never understand!" How trite, and elementary is such behavior? Getting

A simuliar lifestyle. Meaning in no way compared to vampires. This is not really about anybodies beliefs, it is about a common claim. Doru please provide links, that you say we are blind to. I see no presented summary to
The ammended definition of vampire you are professing, this will be my last post, so this is open to all who identify as vsmpires.

Is it your intention to keep insulting those who are in no way convinced of your claim, or belief. These same people are content with a mundane concept of vsmpires, and folk superstitions that contributed.

So it is rather obvious that those who profess agree, it would be a folly to even consider paying any mind to your redundant leading threads as well, all set to flatter yourself and others with vague " esoteric" knowledge.

Again, no they didn't. There is no evidence that the Belzeit Tablet exists, let alone that it describes a vampiric society. The only source of "information" you posted was an original forum post on a different forum, with no references or sources. And surprise surprise, because the only place the Belzeit Tablet is ever mentioned is in that forum. Do your own search. It's not real.

"In 1908, a team of Italian archeologists uncovered a relic in the Minoan palace of Phaistos in Crete. This relic was a disc inscribed in an unknown language using stamps, signifying an example of movable type being used around 1600 b.c.e. This relic is referred to as the Phaistos Disc. A similar object was uncovered five years later in an excavation around the city currently called Ismir in Turkey.
Archeologists were excited about the second find, but soon became disheartened as the symbols were not the same. While the Phaistos Disc remains a mystery and possibly a historical anomaly, the second Disc, commonly referred to as the Belzeit Tablet, has been partially decoded in the late 20th century. What it has revealed is both startling and exciting.

For lack of a poetic description, the Belzeit Tablet was created by a unique Mystery Cult operating in the shadow of the ancient Greek city-states with clear connection to Egypt and the Hebrew tribes on the other side of the Mediterranean Sea. This cult practiced a ritualistic worship of beings best described as vampires.

Whether these vampiric beings truely existed or were simply a variant on the Bacchus rites that were performed is still left for debate among the scholars. On the disc, there were over eighteen glyphs represented, but only six have been fully translated and understood. Presented, for the first time on the internet, are the six glyphs and their interpreted meanings.

Balance

With balance comes harmony. Keeping things in balance is difficult. For the vampire, there are more personal issues that need to be kept in balance: predator-prey, passion-reason, lust-restraint, and violence-peace. Each needs to be exercised equally or harmony is lost. All of one thing, no matter how well intentioned or how well presented, will throw the balance off, disrupting the harmony, and destroying order.

Beast

Instinct plays a vital role. When a vampire looks at another she can see the raw primal force that lurks. Every calm is followed by a storm. The longer the calm the more violent the storm. Vampire respect the beast, as it is the instinct that drives passion and curiousity. the beast pushes boundaries, tests limits, and throws all caution to the wind. The beast is neither stupid nor intelligent. The beast is pure instinct.

Blood

Blood represents two important things to the vampire. It represents their existence. It is their source of strength and power. But it also represents their greatest weakness. The lust for blood has clouded the judgment of many. Are vampire powerful because of their reliance on blood, or are they powerful because of the control they have over their addiction. No matter which, the addiction is a downward spiral that inevitably ends in personal destruction for the weak.

City

Cities represent the development of civilization and the inevitable collapse of civilization. Vampire have witnessed this cycle over and over. When a vampire sees something being built, she can remember what used to be at that location before and knows that eventually the current structure will collapse over time, or be demolished. No empire lasts forever.

Reaper

Harvest is a time of death and a time of cleansing. The concept of death to the immortal loses meaning over time. It becomes less a time to fear but a time to be cleansed. A vampire knows that once a generation she needs to cleanse herself and begin anew in order to perpetrate her unnatural existence among mortals. Ending are beginnings.

Sun

Contrary to popular belief, vampires do not curse the Sun any more than a man who cannot swim curses the ocean. The Sun to the vampire represents the inevitable. There are many things once cannot have any control over, even if one is immortal. The Sun represents all that cannot be controlled. It is a fact that must be endured and worked around."

You know, cadrewolf, I thought you'd stumble upon something interesting there, but it turns out that's the exact same article, word for word, that was posted on the nightmare-factory forum. It even appears to be written by the same person. Once again, it is unsourced, and no information is offered about it. I even did a search for other works by the author, Sean D. Francis, and came up empty-handed, save for a few other online personas, leading me to believe that either the article is a work of fiction by the above-mentioned author, or the article is simply fabricated and then copied by someone who happened upon it.
