We all have different opinions about vampires. Please described what "you" believe to be a vampire, whether "real" or "fictional". There is no wrong answer because it is your belief.
A vampire is a human that practices ceremonial magic to invocate angels or demons to do their bidding and drinks human blood to increase their power in ceremonial magic.
Vampires are fictional characters in novels and movie. that drain the blood from their victims and turn them into the living dead.
There could be countless posts on this, whether we go with the culture of energy feeding or blood, here.
Traits in which one thinks they could be or are a vampire?
Proclaiming oneself a vampire has all the hallmarks of a fringe religion, complete with factions.
My OPINION for those crazy haters/attackers:
Vampire in my head, and i believe in most of the readers head to, is what folk/lores and stories of one specifically details, Is that creature that drink blood and only that, to subtends his survival, the one that hold special physical abilities and some other mental one like glamour or mind reading based in terms of the"fictional"phenomena. Those who practice the ritual of consuming blood and summoning demons and spirits, has nothing to do with the denomination of the thing, is like i take for example the Microsoft Windows logo name and make another thing with it, when everyone knows is from that company previously, and be like confused and bitching, your adopting the name, to describe another thing apart of that just because you feel you are like that. You can’t just adopt a name if it’s not like its being described for centuries, and the idea is latent in everyone’s head. Now if you tell me you are part of the vampire lifestyle community, that’s another thing apart, people can take that and respect it, on the other hand people proclaim to be a vampire by those presented descriptions of consuming blood and raising spirits from beyond, people think you are just a human/sang saying you’re a traditional vampire denomination, and others will see them as a wannabe vampire or role-playing rather than the serious aspect of the respect the real vampire community deserves like any other religion or sect.
Accountability of fraternity, or Society is what fringe sects use to splinter, "satilights of faiths" sampling spiritual collectives, are subject to laxer, more sensational (emotionally) alluring. Promising being asended above the "fold".
A community , collective based on symbolism and the Slavic Upir Academic presentation of vampire lore, and related lifestyles, the same ones that a faction present on VR denounces, are far more educate and consistent in there person, relative to perceived reality.
In the real sense, I believe there are sang, and psi vampires. As in those that feed on blood and/or energy to feel complete and ballanced.
I myself am a hybrid but don't feel quite as well unless I sang feed.

That’s an understandable statement, and something everyone has to respect, because it’s your belief and ideals, no one has to counter respond that assumption, but do you consider yourself a vampire?, or a sanguinarian? That’s the issue that most people don’t comprehend.

A question, vampires are awakened correct?
Role players you mr ruin are easilly spotted by wild claims of super natural abilities,is that correct? I am just confirming those points, so a vampire as you define, are they born vampires?
Thank you for the post, one of the first straight forward response so far I’ve read here, everyone seemed to be saying the same answer over and over again, although how do we know we speak with someone of the vampire community or role-players who reenacting the lifestyle, since I’ve seen some people saying they turn others around here, by biting and they afterwards show symptoms like abilities and the blood thirst.. Or is it even possible? I read about the awakening part, but nothing about the turning by incision.
Some factions claim that a person is born vampire, but it is dormant until they perform some esoteric rite ( taught by self titled "priest") again not knowing whether or not they can pass for a vampire. I have already heard if people who describe severing with factions of people who claimed that the awaking can be revoked, to avoid the person testing.. "?"
~Dabbler~ asks: vampires are awakened correct?
Some are and some are not...I speak for myself on this since I was not awakened. I have natural instincts that work for me, which do coincide with what an awakening represents...But to each their own on what they wish to call the "awakening."
~dabbler~ asks: Role players you mr ruin are easilly spotted by wild claims of super natural abilities,is that correct?
This is quite obviously a common sense answer...But for those of whom are not aware of this type of subject then, they are very easily spotted.
Most of us within the vampire community you would never suspect of being what and or who we are. We are your next door neighbor, the individual at the checkout counter, or the truck driver making his deliveries.
~Dabbler asks: so a vampire as you define, are they born vampires?
A vampire is born vampire, yes...There is no such thing as a "turning" or a "transformation." You either are, or you are not...It is that simple.
~Revenous~ asks: since I’ve seen some people saying they turn others around here, by biting and they afterwards show symptoms like abilities and the blood thirst.. Or is it even possible?
Incision turning is not possible at all unless you are speaking of the fictitious accounts of vampirism as claimed by the dozens of authors from around the world.
As I have stated from ~Dabblers~ question, there is no such thing as being "turned", I am sure many will agree with me that this is physically impossible.
~Dabbler asks: Some factions claim that a person is born vampire, but it is dormant until they perform some esoteric rite ( taught by self titled "priest") again not knowing whether or not they can pass for a vampire. I would think this tend to depend upon the individuals belief system itself. Such as the "faith" mechanation of the mind. But in all due respect for religious conotations, the "awakening" system in my mind would be based entirely on a physical level. The spiritual levels would require immense amount of meditations to say the least. But this is just my opinion on this question.
Again, this is only my view and should not be taken as a be all end all by any means.
Hm.. 2032 entries in the database argues for the existence of vampire fiction...;)
As for "real" vampires, meaning psychic and sanguinarians...yeah I know a few of those, and all the evidence points to them being real live living and breathing people rather than figments of the imagination. The psy vamps have to occasionally be reprimanded for trying to instigate stuff for some food..but other than that...they're generally nice people.
As for the rest...a previous answer in another thread also applies.
:)
It would help to name this "previous thread" that you are regarding.
But that would take all the fun out of making you hunt for it....~grins wryly~
"The real meaning of a self proclaiming vampire." started by Revenous.
So people who profess to be awakened vampires are delusional?
or severly misinformed by those who stand to gain from the "would be pupil/ disciple?
I awoke this morning, yet I do not claim to be transformed into a vampire.
We could gather info on this, but this holds to many meanings. whether we relate to fictional monsters or fables, or the living vampires here. for meaning writers have their own depiction of the vampire. Even hollywood has changed the apearance of the vampiric icon.
Avoiding regression of topic will hasten a concise answer, I must say I find inquires that are avoided by those who profess to be vampires, more informative then the ones they do hazard to reply to. An observation I have made is that those who profess to be vampires are reluctant to "tip their hand" reasoning perhaps that those who pick, and chose what they adapt to their definition are left with vague picking?
A vampire to me is what i see in hollywood films. or a talk long hair mystery man with fangs who feeds off of unwilling victs. And if you look in to their eyes you fall maddly inlove with him.On the real side a vampire is a person with hightend sences that can feed off of emotions = Empathic or any kind of self proclaimed energys feeders like elements, or things of that nature and they don't even have to drink blood sometimes I call people vampires because they take with out asking.
And in some peoples opinions mine included a vampire is a thief.
Now after ~Dabbler~ has made some of his analytical points quite clear, why other "would be" vampires of the community just dont reply back as I do...
Come out, come out...Where ever you are...Plain and simple.
Or, they are afraid of the spotlight...Afraid that much of what a few of us have already stated in this thread, that most on this site are indeed lifestylers and roleplayers?
Hmmm...Makes one think.
A faction exist that simple wants conflict, they appear to be more about intimadation, and impressing what is refered to as the "mundanes".
Those that place their understanding of vampires relative to reality vary in degree but are clear as to definition base. Fringe factions, and those who
May have grievance with noted communities ( usually for conflicting arguements) splinter to adapt, and appeal to the vary mundanes, and role players they so despise.
I have no problem posting, Vampires or people here claims are on the feelings and life style they choose to have, and for this they consider them selfs vampiric. Not the actually fiction of hollywood vampire.
Beliefs are what they make up this sub culture society, heck i remember wanting so bad to be a vampire like hollywood, but it has never come to be.
Yet I still feel like some of the presence of the style I do. much like any other faction in society is based on what the person does with his life.
Cowboys are this if they do not ride a horse?
Scientist even if they do not become know or discover something?
It is the traits which each hold to carry their life on.
And that was not picking on any other faction within life, just making examples. Life style and inner traits are what deem alot here as vampiric in a sense. Do they exist only oin our minds. are they real, considering hollywood and fable version. definatly not. living brathing humans with inner thoughts of vampire tendency yes, there are some here.
I appreciate everyone's post, but please remember that the thread is intended for "your" definition of a vampire, there is no "right or wrong" answer. I am not seeking correctness, just a personal definition of a vampire.
I believe if the people that profess what they say they are should stay with the "vampiric community" or " sanguinarian" or say "Vampyr", its more acceptable and people understand and respect it more than the traditional meaning of "vampire". People will keep asking why they proclaim themselves like that when what they do is not what everyone have in their heads throughout books and stories. I think is more a problem of nomenclature than any other stuff. For sheer curiosity, Can anyone list or mention me a possible reason why would someone put in their profile that they are “vampire”? “Theorizing”
To be fringe, and "mysterious". I find however that the site is rather tolerant of those who clearly present their accepted adaptation of vampires, and goth for that matter, but it appears a rogue factions is out for conflict relating to their professed vampire claim. They are consistently implying they are oppressed by "those who just don't understand us.", and even referring to others as they accuse others of doing to them.
A Vampire is a member of a clan, initiated by an elder, and a good keeper of the secrect within.
markus,
Thank you you raise a valued point with your post. Accountability of the establishing elders. How many who profess to be of a community would be able to present a community portfolio or be vouched for in some manner (understand this is not discloser to out-group persons but people considering initiation, or induction into a claimed community.
I belive a vampire is simply someone or something that actively seeks out blood or enegy to increase their own power .
"In 1908, a team of Italian archeologists uncovered a relic in the Minoan palace of Phaistos in Crete. This relic was a disc inscribed in an unknown language using stamps, signifying an example of movable type being used around 1600 b.c.e. This relic is referred to as the Phaistos Disc. A similar object was uncovered five years later in an excavation around the city currently called Ismir in Turkey.
Archeologists were excited about the second find, but soon became disheartened as the symbols were not the same. While the Phaistos Disc remains a mystery and possibly a historical anomaly, the second Disc, commonly referred to as the Belzeit Tablet, has been partially decoded in the late 20th century. What it has revealed is both startling and exciting.
For lack of a poetic description, the Belzeit Tablet was created by a unique Mystery Cult operating in the shadow of the ancient Greek city-states with clear connection to Egypt and the Hebrew tribes on the other side of the Mediterranean Sea. This cult practiced a ritualistic worship of beings best described as vampires."

~markus666~ states: "A Vampire is a member of a clan, initiated by an elder, and a good keeper of the secret within."
~Soulshroude~ Replies: This statement should be changed to..."The vampire 'may' be a member of a (put organization here), initiated by an 'elder' of said (organization), and or a good keeper of any secret of said (organization)."
The vampire does not nessessarily have to be bound by any social creed, or group code. There are plenty of independant vampires out there, ones that choose not group themselves into any "elite" unit, or faction.
Vampires are vampires plain and simple. If the vampire wishes to involve themselves into any set "faction" then this is by their choice alone and is not a "birth right" of any kind. We are not as special as others claim us to be put on a pedal stool or any sort of crazy nonesense.
Vampires are fiction. Perhaps those who profess abilities and such can be creative enough to come up with another name, that would represent them. I mean what a trademark rip.
I am surether are other names in the sub-cultures. But yet come back to the common tag-Vampirism.
Much like all professions in life. politicians, scientist alll come back to a common tag
But basically we all are just human.
cadrewolf,
I enjoyed your post, it was quite enlightening. Thank you!
