When most people hear the word 'supernatural' or 'paranormal' the first word they usually think of is 'fictional' or 'fantasy'. Why? Neither definition of the words mean fake. The definition of supernatural is "Pertaining to, or being above or beyond what is natural; unexplainable by natural law or phenomena." The definition of paranormal is "Pertaining to, or being of the claimed occurrence of an event or perception without scientific explanation, as psychokinesis, extrasensory perception, or other purportedly supernatural phenomena." Just because something cannot be explained through typical means, it does not mean certain things do not exist. Please, share your thoughts.

Super natural? huh some people have heightened senses in life does this make them super-natural. or do we as humans depict the hollywood version of super abilities as this.

We first must take the stand of seperating the fact from fantasy and than post on what in true life is considered super natural.

~Cradlewolf~ I think he did described what he refer in the topic: "ESP, telekinesis, etc..." Nothing vampiric or godlike here, so theres no hollywood or mythological things brought here. I guess he means as psychics, medians and foretellers alike. ~Djj~ I know you said to share our views on this , but you have to ask what specifically. Like for example; "Do you have any experience where you can say you experience a foreshadowing?" or, "Do you believe in supernatural/paranormal things?" Have you had any experience of a paranormal ocurrance in which you can say is possible?" Do you believe the goverment know this things and dont broaden an understanding of it to others?", you know question like that to hype/dynamize the thread.. not just my views, 'cause my views about this you brought are the same as yours right now, in base of the meaning of paranormal/supernatural.. .

well I feel it is associate with Sci-fi or fantasy because most things that are of such nature are Scientifically explained away without, considering the fact there is something far bigger and smarter than us out there or even here.

People with the gift or curse, whichever they choose it to be considered. is defined by science as such sense not alot of people with abilities come forward due to the fact our society can be so judgemental.

So it is explained away as sci-fi or fantasy stuff.. as you call it .. :)

I thought paranormal is when strange things occur, like sightings of ghosts, and strange goings ons in places. Where unexpected and bizzare events have took place, where you need evidence to prove that these strange occurences have really happened.

Paranormal is about things that are unexplainable, as to teh average person due to the factt hey do not believe in ghost, spirits, entities etc...

Yet science has proved that it does exist.. yet unexplained as to how it comes about.

Supernatural is basically to the super abilities that are beyond the Natural realm of things or the average persons capabilities.

As teleknitics (sp), esp, voodoo, hoodo etc.. just how i look at ti I could be wrong.. if so please some one elaborate on this. :)

I think that supernatural or other words with the same meaning, dont mean somthing is not real or is fake or whatever. It just means we dont understand it.

Well, mostly the reason why people think of the supernatural and paranormal as fantasy is because of the media and cinema.

They relate a movie to a certain subject or someone who was found to be a fraud or a circumstance turned out to be a hoax.

Now, if the media continously placed things out there, that have never been found to be fake, there might be more believers and less skeptics and nay-sayers.

Though, don't quote me on that, because all I've stated is a probable not fact.

Also, since the world has taken a turn from medieval and victorian superstitions, and has been taking a scientific approach to certain things of interest.

We also, have more skeptics.

Depends on what side of the spectrum your on, and how much proof or devotion to promote your belief.

Hm... My belief is that most people think to 'fantasy' and 'fiction' because of society's draw to... movies. They relate to the largest exaggerations possible of things that are, in reality, not so grand. It's so much easier to think "powers" and relate to something such as X-Men as opposed to brief glimpses of the future, strong feelings, ect. Such thoughts are directly related to fictional forms of entertainment, and thus draws the mind initially into thinking of the more visible "examples". It's like when you think of "body of water", you would probably think of the ocean first if you've seen one multiple times rather than say, a small lake you've only heard about.

Personally, my own thoughts on the subject is that these things do exist on their own scale. If they ever could surmount to the things we see today in movies, to be visible and have a definition based in cold stone, it would cease to be a thing of mythical proportions and fade into every day reality. What is unknown is very precious to the mind's ability to think outside of the box, science for all of its glory truly shouldn't be able to touch everything.

That and I wouldn't want to see genetically constructed demons running around. Spiders are bad enough.

Yes to think outside the box is a very good description of all this. We are challenged to open our minds when things happen that we cannot explain away. So we label them.

Open opininions are always good, for in life there are not just one side to a wall but six sides, whether we wish to see them all is left up to each of us.

Hm, my thoughts on the subject are...

I think one who doesn't understand something wont believe in such things. Unless one has an open mind and don't go by the "Wont believe it til I see it" code.

Or Maybe some are just afraid to know the truth about them. Either way, I guess the more experiences one has with the things believe in it more.

I believe fully!

I think its probably because a lot of people think it's all fake, so they just kind of associated those words with skepticism over a period of time.

IDK. I could be wrong.

To me supernatural would be that little 'umph' that goes beyond what has been seen as everyday normal capabilities. I guess if it's rare, it's defined as supernatural. When in fact, it may just be as natural as anything else only we've never witnessed such 'umphs' in our lifetimes. Does that even makes sense? It's late here. haha

DJJarak I like your forums, they're right up my favorite alley!

Super, is english for the Latin word Supra meaning above, and of course natur-al is Latin for pertaining to nature. So Supernatural is, pertaining to above nature.

Thats the reason why rational people scoff at idiots who make claims of supernatural abilities. Especially when they offer no evidence, or reasoning that supports their claims, and professed observations.

A person that needs to proclaim super natural abilities, or experiences, should understand that " Seeing is believing." had they not seen something that appeared to be phenomenal that they would likely not believe it themselves. Those who believe need to get out of the limelight if they seek only attention in profession, rather than demonstration, because even if I was a believer, I would ask for evidence, or the reasoning behind any supernatural claims.

Is it not a tag we created to identify certain unknown characteristics we have come across?

why must super relate to super powers of some kind?

Occurances that were once unknown, since then the common denominators, and illusionist pairing up with scientific observers have accounted for occurances, and demonstrations. How generically cliché and assumptive " unknown" has become. I call it " unknownism.

Unknownism is better word than supernatural. I agree with that dabbler.

Covers most of the paranormal or unexplained into that catagory.

Just curious dabbler, so if seeing is believing, then one must see their "God" or creator in order to believe they exist, and not of a superior or supernatual being?
Then all religions of the world attire are in wrong, because they are are based in faith, not seeing to believe?

Brlief, and experiences are two different degrees, to avoid blurring the topic
I am referring to those who profess to withness personal demonstrations, or encounters relaing to supernatural, the difference.. "Something/Some Being out there, and Beyond this." and " This Something/ Some Being, choose me to see, or experience their presence in the Here and Now." Fanatics hide in such blurred reasoning.
