I know this has been brought up -- It just really bothers
me, and I'd like to see how other people feel.

So my question is ---

Should blocks be overseen by some one in staff?

Like the way the database is conducted -- You submit it with your reasons and it either gets approved or denied.

This is real crap -- I'm blocked by 5 people and have
no idea why -- some of them I never even rated
or gone to their profiles.

Tell me your thoughts.

Have you read their profile?

Some members make the outward statement," if you insult my precious beliefs.. I will not associate with you, or rate your profile low."

Some could actually have accidently added you to their block list.

When someone rates you a 1 and then blocks you that is comical ( to an extent) yet just blocking.. Perhaps it is an account of a person that has conflict with you on another account, and they are maintaining the grudge with their new profile.

The blocking feature can be used by members if they choose...thats why it is there...even if they have stupid reasons for blocking.

I think that sometimes people abuse the blocking feature. But for the most part, I think that most people on here use it wisely.

I haven't had to block anyone as of yet. But, if I did it would be a very good reason.

i think blocking is for you. it shouldnt be reviewed by anyone. You have your reasons for blocking them. it is for your use....

Think of blocking as a way of telling someone

"I don't want to interact with you."

If someone has blocked you, it is their right to do so for their own private reasons just as it is your right. I get the feeling that people would be more angry if reasons for blocking were provided. Hell, drama is often continued because people list the reasons why they blocked someone in their journals.

I'll take a guess and say that they don't like the fact that you're a satanist...?

Flat out, blocking is a personal issue and we have all heard SEVERAL times that personal issues are not to be handled by the administration.

If someone blocks you for no reason whatsoever, the penalty will eventually come back on them as well. Since Cancer put the overblock/block penalties into effect, I've lost almost all of the blockers.

I don't mind it, since it went into effect I removed everyone i was blocking and still haven't heard from them my only prob is there are four people who are still blocking me and i don't know why, but hey it's their poragative (sorry spelling) anyway, it's a good feature to use in extreme cases, just not all the time I do however think it should be raised to ten instead of five what if one person has five accounts I mean that don't make much sense to have that many but still it is possible.

Trust me, I think we should have valid reasons to use that block button, considering a few of us have the kind of people who have blocked for no reason that we haven't ever spoken to at all, visited their profiles or anything else, but that is not the way that the system is set up. We just have to suck it up and deal with it.


Me, I personally don't care if someone blocks me anymore. It means that they have done something to piss me off, and I told them off and they couldn't deal with it, so they blocked me. Oh well.

Actually, a valid reason is subjective. If someone is annoying, negative, or just plain toxic- a person should have the right to block them. And beyond that, it is a personal choice that shouldn't be dictated. Cancer has instituted measures to keep people from abusing the option.

The only person that has blocked me is someone I have never talked to before. I'm guessing they did it because I rated them low when I went back to look at the page. I support the right we have to block anyone we want for any reason.

Recently, I have encountered someone who downrated me and blocked me with all their profiles and then created a new profile and blocked and downrated me with that one as well.

People will clash, and it hurts...
especially when you are trying to reconcilliate and the other will not listen.

Blocking is the right of every member of VR, and I do not think anything should be changed . That is why Cancer started the over block rule for status to make people think before they block.

Now I am seeing this turn into more of a rant and journal entry about something you don't like... and we should never start threads to hammer on Cancer's implementations. You don't like the block penality- so essentially that's what's going on here.

So, I am going to close this thread because you know... getting people riled up over this is not productive.
