The Ultimate Vampire Resource and Directory

Has anyone on here ever read that book? It's by Elizabeth Kostova. there is a brief database submission on it.

What did you think of it?

I personally enjoyed it very much.

I bought this book and not had the time to read it perhaps when the time comes I shall pick it up and have a read and see what I think of it.

I loved it! I like the plot twist and turns...and how the writer portrayed Vlad Dracul...
Plus, it was intelligently written. For those who are looking for explicit sex and a lot of blood and gore - the book isn't for them.

The Historian is the reason Im on VR.After reading the book...I wanted to see where she got all her info on the book...and I stumbled across VR in that search..I loved the book.

It should have been called The Librarian and billed as a travel guide to the great libraries of the world. Vlad portrayed as a bookworm made sense, but his death was a mere blip after hundreds of pages leading up to his discovery. I don't need a lot of sex description, but if there is sex I'd like to not feel sorry for the participants.

Well, at least there is room for another book..it would be interesting to see what happened to the mother.

it would be nice if another book was published.
also, the travel side of the book really impressed me.
it made me want to learn turkish.

It made me want to learn Turkish too! I only know a few words. (Too bad my few Turkish friends are all gone now)...
I like the vibe of the story. I'm a big history nut, so it pulled me right in. I wanted to go to all of the museums; especially Topkapi in Turkey - it's gorgeous!

Now I need to get the book and read it. All of you have made it a have to read.

sounds like an interesting book...altho i do enjoy some explicit sexuality from time to time.

i only know a few words in turkish as well.
actually, i only know how to say 'hello' and then i know the alphabet.
but one day maybe, maybe, i will learn more.

To be honest I was sooo upset when I finished reading this masterpiece... It was so well thought out.. I was so well researched and man it made me in the mood to travel again. The only thing I was so discouraged about was that there was not MORE. I went to do research on the author to see if there would ever be more. While I did not find the answer to that, I was extremely surprised to find that she had spent over a decade doing research for this project.. Even if she didn't receive a Pulitzer (I don't know) her tenacity to understand and command history into her writing was far beyond I am sure anyone's expectations. Her history timeline and insight between religions and cultures were flawless..
Just amazing..
BTW did I mention I liked the book?

Ha. Its so funny how good this book turned out to be in the end considering I bought it pretty much based solely on the fact that i liked the way the pages felt.

It is an amazing book. A must read for anyone - and I know I've said that a thousand times now but its true.

And yes, the author does have a very good command over the mingling of fiction and fact in her book. I can't imagine doing a decade of research on it. I'm just not that committed.

I love the mixing of fact with fiction...it made the story more interesting ...and even plausible!
