Since I was little I have had dreams which were so detailed and realistic that I think back and have a really hard time distinguishing them from old memories. Has anyone else had anything like this happen to them? Why do some people dream with limited details and memory of what they were while others seem to remember everything even years later?

I've had dreams that had so much detail to them, and yet some that had very lil. The ones that gave me a lot of detail were signs, or memories from the past that I never knew happened til I had the dream and talked to my mom, and found out that it happened when I was such and such age. The ones with lil detail, normally haven't fully developed yet which is why there isn't much there to it. Dreams don't necessarily mean it's happened or going to happen though. If you write down the main points of the dream, and a few minor details and then research meanings of those items in a dream it'll explain what you're dream is trying to tell you if it's not something from your life. Sometimes it's pertaining to a past life, the future, or something that's going to happen in the near future.

I use to study dream meanings as I was always fascinated with what my dreams meant if I couldn't find the answers any other way. That would be something that might interest you at some point.

Before my life got all hectic and busy I used to have very very detailed dreams almost once a week. When I got work, house and more hobys they faded away. I think that my body and brain is to tired to remember or even make up a detailed dream.
I know what you are thinking. If you just take the time to relax it will all come back. Im pretty sure it will but Im sorry to say that I cant find the time to relax enough in my life. Im sure the time will come again.
So my saying is that if you are relaxed and down to earth and have all your thoughts straitend out, you will have realistic dreams

Dreams are nothing more than dreams. Science has proven that when you dream something and you feel that feeling that it has happened in a dream it is nothing more than you filling your empty space in your mind. Our brains are like computers. When there's empty space it must be filled. We as humans use no more than 10 to 12% present of our minds capability. So when we have storage space it must be filled.

My most realistic dreams, even if they seam bizaar, usually wind up being real.

The other realistic dreams I have are specifically meaningfull and reoccuring, although they are not identical. I often dream of Israel, and those dreams are pretty vivid. My dreams of New Orleans are also quite vivid. Both dreams mean I am worried about specific things. So do dreams about flying and getting trapped at an airport, but I usually find those less vivid.

It almost seams like the more distressed I am, the more vivid the dream.

Our most vivid dreams generally are a result of underlying worry in our daily lives. The more pre-occupied or stressed you about something, the more it takes over your thoughts even when not awake. its a human defense mechanism to work out these dramas or what have you in our sleeping state. just because a dream is incredibly vivid, doesn't make it a "vision."

I do have very realistic dreams and at times when I wake up I have difficulty determining what actually happened versus what I dreamed. For me the realistic dreams are in the present.

Sometimes I think my realistic dreams stem from my brain processing information gathered during the day . Maybe I take conversations or interactions with people and fuse that with the non-verbal or subtext of the situation and my brain forms my version of what is going on.

Recently I had a friend who was upset because her and her boyfriend had gotten into a heated argument and were yelling at each other. That was the information she gave to me. That night I dreamed that the fight had escalated and he actually hit her. Although she did not immediately share that information with me a few days later she finally told me the whole story which did include the fact he hit her.

The trouble I have is making sure that I am basing decisions or conversations on what I have been told or what I have witnessed and not on what I dreamed. Generally, when I have a sense of déjà vu it is because in my waking hours I have been given “extra” pieces of information that I previously dreamed.

Yea I keep a dream journal so i can track the dreams. To see if they reoccur of seen to have any reliance in the waking world. It has worked out well for we I've been doing it since I was 10 and have 159 individual journals to reference from.

just going to point one thing real fast to hardbiter

its your opinion on dreams just being dreams.

however they are in my opinion much more they are a window into the things we would do without inhabitions as well as sometimes not always warnings or issues we refuse to face in real life.

some dreams are just dreams nothing more but some are more. the whole scientists have proven this and that.

always bothered me since its the word of another you have to go on instead of seeing it for yourself. its like gravity if no one told us gravity existed and our minds knew it was there would it still affect us or is it mind over matter ?

No doubt that most people have very vivid dreams. Remember this thread is about just that.
If we want to talk about if dreams come true thats another thing and another thread.

When I sat down and thought about my most vivid dreams it came to me that most of them if not all of them was sex dreams :) What does that say about me.

I cant remember the name of the person who kept a journal of every dream. I wish I had done just that.

I think everyone who dreams has had atleast 1 dream in which they could remember every detail. Though these dreams only happen when you are feeling an overwhelming flood of emotion currently in your life. For example, events such as death have a negative effect on us which can lead to Nighmare's which are notorious for being extremely realistic. However, Alot of stress can lead to panic dreams in which you are running and seem to feel all the emotions associated with panicing. But there is also other mood's that will make people have realistic dreams, for example, being in love or obsessing over someone will often make you have dreams of them.

I think everyone experiences intense dreams at somepoint in there lives. They are there to help us at the end of the day and should be listend to and disected peice by peice.

Hi, first i just want to say you write some interesting forums :D

I have had some very scary dreams ever since i was a child.
One i had when i was 12 years old.
There was a knock at the door i went to the door and it was ajar and next to the door was a book case and it was away from the wall as if someone moved it on purpose.
The next part of the dream was the scariest even the psychologist was taken back,
It wasnt me but someone elses hands stiring meaty chunks in a tea cup, and i said it was me cut up into peices.
I still pause and hold my breath when i think of how i felt when i woke. it was still dark outside and i sat there wide eyed horrified busting for the toilet for what seemed an eternity.
I was too scared to breath i felt like i was being watched and there was definatly something in the room.
I have had dreams that repeat them selfs plane crashes etc and one in particular thats kind of trippy is i could be dreaming of flying kites in the Sahara then it will change to i stand up in this high rise building and it has large windows and i see thousands of lights, i guess u can call them ufo's as i dont know what the lights are!
but i always awake as soon as i see the lights 0_o
FLYING DREAMS...i need a serious wing alignment! i fly good but landing is not so good i normaly wake from the adrenalin but i rarely fly in my dreams and only once i have flowen with other ppl :) does that mean i have found some ppl astral travelling at the same time? is it even astral travelling?
I love dreaming :D

I have to agree with the poster who mentioned keeping a dream journal. It's very helpful in keeping track and in deciferying whether or not the dreams are an occurance of daily stress/traumas or if they could be a warning of things to come. Also, ainformation gathered as a result of the journal can help to figure out if perhaps the dreams are influencing your actions...rather than the dreams being an actual vision or somrthing of that nature.

Yes...I've had very realistic dreams before, enough so when something similar happened in real life, I really had to ponder which was which, (providing of course I remembered the dream).
(on another note, I have a friend who gets mad at me for something I might do in her dreams..wtf?)

My dreams while having them have become real at times too..such as the running dream...my legs will be sore...I had a dream I was kidnapped with my arms behind my back...my arms and shoulders were sore upon waking up. But, I can also make myself wake up if it becomes a bad dream.

I have them very often, and at times they come true. It scares me honestly. I hate it. But the one that has been reoccuring here lately is one about my 14 year old sister.

All that I can truly remember is:
I'm driving home down the backway of town. My radio goes off saying that they need units to respond to a MVA (motor vehicle accident). I turn on my lights and haul ass to the scene. My dad was putting up his trauma gear and my mother (wasn't sure why she was there) was zipping up a body bag. I rush over and move her out of the way to get more information and curiosity of who it was in there. I see my sister covered in blood and laying there motionless.

That's when I woke up in a cold sweat and fully in tears. I rushed upstairs and just watched her sleep and hugged her for a while.
**Bleh** It keeps happening though, which is what worries me.

Hello,

Oh yes, I have had said dreams more than once. Perhaps we dream in greater detail because we notice things on a deeper level. Perhaps it is because it means more to us, or even perhaps our memories hold more importance to us. I do not know why, but maybe the little things others miss in just detail become the whole picture for us.

This reminds me of a time when I was only about 4 or 5 years old. Me and my sister recalled an event to our father in which he said it was something that we had dreamed. However, I don't believe two people can have the same exact dream.

Come to find out it wasn't a dream at all but a real event that took place. We had went to visit my biological grandmother, a woman who was responsible for us kids to be adopted out. I don't think my father really wanted us to know who she was and that was why he said we had dreamed of the visit.

Strange it is... even experts have yet unraveled that mystery.
The Human brain is actually the most complex thing to try to unravel.
Dreamscape even occurs in coma patients, yet they can not awaken from it.
Imagine what it would be like or feel like when the potential for Human Brain transplant developes. Waking up in someone elses body?
Once you sign that Donor Card, without specifications, it's theirs for the taking!!!!!

Even tho it can be fictional but that is what happened in the Dead Zone he went into a coma and when he woke up 6 years later he had the ability to see the past present and future

We dont know how much of the brain we can use so could that really be possible? It seems to be linked to the subconscious and dreams along some lines

I have had several vivid dreams, some of them are memories of a past time, things I have pushed down that I don't wish to remember, but some have been premonitions of something that is going to happen. I think the dream realm holds different things for each person. I have kept dream journals also, it helps one to also control their dreams if they are having recurrent nightmares. It also helps me to remember even the faintest of images from within my dreams.

M'lords and m'ladies, i have always been told that to dream of your death, means someone in your circle is about to have birth of sorts, whether an actual child or a NEW direction to them... Not sure if that is true...

I agree that most people have dreams that seem so real it's hard to distinguish.. I am unsure if it is past memories or of things yet to come.. BUT I hope that not all the dreams I have had come true...

Blessings to all

My most realistic dreams were lucid dreams. That is, where you become aware that you dreaming. These are very intense and extremely detailed. Google lucid dreams, if you're interested.

One of my favorite lucid dreams occurred when I was a teenager. I was what you would call a hybrid vampire/werewolf, very much like what you might see in a movie. A sort of "Howling" type werewolf with giant bat wings. Anyway, I was in a local mall and flying down the long aisles, decapitating and shredding shoppers left and right... heads flying, etc. I knew I was dreaming and I loved this.. as sick as that may seem. I was completely controlling the experience. It was VERY gory and a complete rush. Maybe I need a doctor, lol, but I love that dream and remember it as if I had dreamt it last night.

DJ, dreams are tricky as they are something that is controlled by our minds, our being. Sometimes the dreams we have make big impressions upon us. They may reveal something about ourselves we had no idea would be in our head or in our heart! What marvelous things we sometimes render ourselves.

I do believe most of our "fears" and "anxieties" conjur up our dreams. For those that are "sensitve" these can be quite real and sometimes eventually become real which I call a deja vu.

I am facinated by these as they have haunted me all my life since I can remember and I too can remember the dreams more than my real life for they had strong impact and meaning about ourselves and what can be more fascinating and intriguing than that???

I have had dreams like that since I was a little girl. I don't know why people have them and remember them years later. Maybe it is a way to teach us and show us things that maybe we are not paying attention to. Heck maybe it is a way to show us things that we will have to go through so that maybe we won't screw up so badly.
