I know a few people who have the power to know when they're dreaming and to control their dreams. Some are born with this ability and some train themselves after experiencing a few too many nightmares. I was born with this ability and so was my father and my sister. It doesn't always work, but it usually does. One time I had a nightmare that a massive monster was chasing my down a shadowy hallway. As soon as I snapped out of it, I imagined a Starfleet compression phaser rifle appearing in my hands. I vaporized the monster and woke up. That wasn't even nearly the most fun one. Who else has this ability?
I learned to master my dreams after a childhood full of nightmares. It was self taught as a survival method so I could get some rest.
I've been able to alter my dreams, but I honestly try not to. Instead when they get too upsetting or intense, I remove my emotions and become a "watcher" so that I'm no longer "doing" but it's more like I'm watching a movie of someone else. I find this helps me keep the ability to see what it is my mind is trying to communicate to me with the dream.
I had some weird recurring nightmares as a child, and I have to be careful what I watch right before I go to bed because whatever it is it replays, sometimes in very strange mergers (try watching Underworld and House sometime). It changed when I got married. I spent some time watcing my husband work out at a martial arts dojo, and the next nightmare I had I stopped running, turned around, and beat the crap out of the monster. Very satisfying.
This almost reminds me of the song "Silent Lucidity", when the spoken during the solo lyrics come into play:
Visualize your dream
Record it in the present tense
Put it into a permanent form
If you persist in your efforts
You can achieve dream control
Dream control
While it is very much possible to attain the power of dream control, to some it is a very hard thing to do. The strongest mind rarely ever gets close enough to achieve this action.
I have accomplished this many times, as well as controling my dreams long enought to realize new potential for my astral body as well. Such as learning to fly, speaking, reading and several other attributes that I have aquired over time.
Though I am not exactly sure how to teach dream control, it seems only an individual effort since everyones subconscious reacts differantly to every situation.
I would try a little trick that is experimental at this time, a certain piece of equipment that covers the eyes that has reactive lighting installed wtihin it, comes on when the mind hits R.E.M. sleep. When the lights activate at that time, the mind begins to become aware of its surroundings thanks to the technology of this strobe effect.
I don't have this ability...but it is a subject that I've always been interested in. I've tried and tried, but no matter what it seems as if I can't just "realize" I'm dreaming when I actually am. I usually just wake up if I can manage to become aware of that fact. If anyone has any tips on how someone could "train" themselves on how to do this, I'd love for you to post them here.
All individuals do have this ability, but their minds disassociate with the dream world because the truth is, they are startled when they actually grasp the control aspect their dream and thus "wake up" from it.
If there is a way to not "wake up" out of the freak out, and stay within the dream itself, one could actually manage to finish said dream and begin a new one, or control the dream long enough to visualize new aspects of the dream itself and thus control the entire sequence in turn, making it a subsequent reality. A world within a world so to speak.
i wouldn't consider myself having this ability, but it has happened to me before.
its called lucid dreaming, i dont know if any said that before me. haha.
but there have been a couple times where i have realized i have been dreaming (usually happens in recurring dreams) and i proceed through the dream much faster than if i hadn't known that.
it is something that i'm interested in but it is not something i have seriously pursued.
All people have this ability - if it is a lucid dream and they are aware and know what a lucid dream is. Most dreams are not control-able. Hell, many people don't even know they had a dream, much less control it. You can only control lucid dreams. And it is very beneficial to do so. So start mastering.
You can also teach yourself to dream of a certain topic of interest or subject matter. Works better if you make this a group effort. Decide, as a group, to dream about the same topic. Then focus on this topic during the early evening. Refocus on the topic just before your sleep and let it go - release the thought. The next morning discuss what you dreamt with the group. Amazing stuff.
Maybe a project in your VR coven or House?
I am 20 years old and have still not mastered that. I still have nightmares. My fiance told me that if I want to dream about a certain thing, all I have to do is think about that thing. But here's the problem, I live with three roomates, who often keep me up. And while I wait for them to fall asleep, I fall asleep and end up having a weird/crazy dream, or a nightmare. Also, no matter how much I try to concentrate on one thing (such as meditating), my mind wanders greatly and I end up daydreaming.
How can I even begin to try to master my own mind? It's so uncooperative!
I am able to control my dreams sometimes.
So my question is, if dreams are signs of the future and we control them, are we therefore controlling our future as well?
My problem is, that I tend to be a pessimist so it ends up in a bad matter, but there are times where I fight my obstacles and get away with it.
After a childhood filled with nightmares, that even spilled over when I woke up, I taught myself the art of lucid dreaming. I love dreaming and I could almost say its a hobby of mine. I often remember my dreams, in a very clear almost "snapshot" way. I can remember a particular image and the feeling that went with it.
I have managed to change some of the recurring dreams I have had. If I wake up, I love going back to sleep and bouncing right back in to a dream.
My son was also plagued by nightmares in his childhood. I did my best to teach him how to take control and he seems to have managed to find a way that works best for him.
I remember one particular dream that for some reason I was unable to alter. I was in a public place and kept running up to people telling them to slap me in the face as hard as they could so I could wake up. I kept telling them I know I am dreaming and I want to wake up, hit me!
I have read most of the posts here, and I dream similar to some. I have very realistic dreams, and almost never have a lucid moment accept in repeat dreams. (I'm glad someone else also said this.)
My husband is trying to get me to dream so I am not a physical being ... he has odd dreams.
Everytime I'm dreaming, it's like real life, and I wake up to see that it didn't come to pass.
I have a lot of reoccuring dreams, most of those were military and stopped some time ago.
I really can't say I have dreams because I become awake to my baby crying so I have no time to reflect.
~it's a "snap back to reality"
I became a lucid dreamer when I was just a wee vamp. I had the same barn burning dream five nights running and by the fifth night I knew I was dreaming and actually could control it on a small level...from then on I've always known when I'm dreaming...I even talk to myself in them on occasion.
Oh Lucid Deaming
I been tested this so many times and the key to such dreaming is very simplest way....
Just few keys :
1) To eat at least 3 hours before your sleep so that digestion machine do not do activity at the time of sleep will lead you to the dream planes with little active gross mind.
2) follow te earlier dream before going to bed in happiness the joy must be immense that you got the ticket to enter your chosen dream.
3) on bed after light out from closing eyelids follow the chosen dream you seen last time.
Aaah, though i was mastering the technique of the dream, one interfare n the dream awaken me to see lucid dreams for long period and made mockery of me that being puppet i had to see vision but could notsee my self.
Don't laugh at me. that duration I seen every kind of dreams.
One most important note!: to make your lucid dream long lasting, make swirl each time they about to fading or vacuum pulling you or you are falling to gravity.
This will long your dream period easily from 30 minutes to 2 hours or three hours or long night. This swirl trick was suggested by my teacher and been successful in mycase.
The same swirl youcan have in astral too to longing your astral period.
Due to breathe holding practice no nightmare beings attack me in the dreams coz my breathe holding capacity beyond one minute and I can escape them easily.
Yet i can not defend my self against dream intercepters they are much powerful than me. they play with me just like I am puppet and drag me to different different dreams of their choice and not of my choice, when they interfare my dreams.
Possibly they meet me at astral plane (true plane and not at dreaming planes) while dreaming and force me toprobably to other astral planes and not on dream planes.
I haven't learned the fine art of doing that, but I can walk into other peoples dream that I know and have known for a little while. Yes, I know it is rude and can cause a lot of odd things to happen. I wish I knew how to kill the monsters of my nightmares. Is there a way to read up on this?
you can practice breathe holding and if you are able to take your breathe holding beyond 60 or beyond 70 seconds, the nightmare will go.
I don't control my dreams. For there are times my dreams gives me messages.
I don't control them, I can but I choose not to, for I find it FAR more interesting to watch it play out as it will
I can control some of my dreams but not all of them, because half of the time I end up taking a step out of my body and just roaming around my house.
Psychic dreams are hard to control especially when there is something you want to focus in on. If anyone has any pointers on how do control dreams that hold a message please send me a message.
