I know people, one for sure, that believe demons actually walk the earth. Not the Hollywood Horror Movie demons, but the soulless evil demon perpetrators of mankind. I would think ,and I’m pretty sure you’d agree, one such example would be Adolph Hitler. I’m not so sure I believe he was a demon from an evil entity, Satan if you will. I think labeling Adolph Hitler a demon conjures up a vision that he could have been identified as such always, and that‘s dangerous. I don’t think he was a demon...not in the literal sense of the word. I think Adolph Hitler was just a man, a man with radical ideals and thoughts, no empathy, and a man with racial and class bigotry. Did these qualities alone determine the classification of “demon”? I don’t think so. Who doesn’t claim these qualities to one degree or another?
Adolph Hitler could have never achieved his moniker of “demon” without a government, a huge number of his countrymen and the German media behind him. He would have never achieved it without a good portion of the world willing to bend to his will. Alone he would just have lived his life as another chump. The power he achieved allowed him to cut an evil notch on history...*raises an eyebrow*.
Charles Manson? Another easy bulls eye for the label “demon”, but was he? I’ve read accounts of his childhood and let me tell you, Hollywood would be hard pressed to come up with a story that bizarre and horrible. I can’t say I believe Charlie had much to say in how he turned out. Was he a demon sent from Hell? I really don’t think so, I think he was made.
Both these men have/had genius IQs...so...one can not pin the word demon from a lack of intelligence. In fact, serial killers, whom I’m sure most people would consider demons, are as a rule highly intelligent.
I sometimes wonder how to even define “evil”. In this world of such confounding desires how is it possible? Take a man that beats a woman, I’m sure many of you would consider that evil, perhaps even consider the man literally a demon...but...what if that’s what the woman wanted? What if that’s what she desired? There are people in this world that enjoy and desire such things, S&M you understand? So...in that view...was it evil? Was the man a demon? A line in one of the “Hellraiser” movies always stuck with me, when the Cenobites came in one of them, “Pinhead” says...”To some we are demons...to others we are angels.”. I wonder how true that statement may in actuality be? Is evil a matter of perception? Is it perception that conjures a demon?
Am I a demon? I will confess there are times I look into my eyes in the mirror and wonder. I can have some pretty naughty thoughts, some I would and have acted on and some that I never would...but still...even the latter are there. Is it the animal side of us that are the demons? I don’t see how that’s possible...an animal can not be a demon...it is as it was created. Does not that side of us enjoy the same distinction?
in many ways humanity are like demons as they both can kill for no other reason than pleasure, sport or simply for the evil of it.
This is my definition so if anyone uses this, just so you know, it came from me.
Demon: One who is pure evil or has an unusual drive and effectiveness caused by negative thoughts and memories of an undesirable emotion.
So by that definition, would someone so hurt by the abuse they receive that they kill be evil and demonic? I think that good and evil are just opinions, made by each individual who comments on a situation. In the example I just gave some might say the abusers were the demons and the killer could be considered a demon slayer of sorts. In truth, we all have our demonic sides, we just don't all act on them.
it makes you wonder if humanity is from earth, they don't fit in with this world.
i say humans can be both angels and demons and this world can be both hell and heaven, its all about choices and how they affect the world and everything in it,i personally want chaos in the world as its the natural way, others want order and to control this world.
This is another definition I made, this one also belongs to me, just so everyone knows.
The Decision Theory: The Ability to change your emotions so that you can control how you feel by understanding and being aware of your thoughts. Proven by the fact that nothing can be right or wrong without someone to decide it and nothing is good or evil yet anything can be used for good or evil. Also the idea that what you believe to be true is true or becomes true.
So then selective...it is a matter of perception for you?
yes, I would say so.
You see, I asked myself the same questions you asked yourself. My answer ended up being those definitions that I made.
I simplified it the best I could, cause I knew the answer had to also fit those that are bodiless as well as in the physical with bodies.
Also, beyond the physical, good and evil are actually both in the same. Both Male and Female characteristics.
However, there is the odd fact that we have 4 major parts in our bodies that keep us alive, and they just happen to match up perfectly with the 4 elements!
Earth - Bowels
Water - Bladder
Air - Lungs
Fire - Heart
and I remember reading somewhere about an idea of the Earth and Water came from the Earth to make us while the Air and Fire came from the Heavens to make us. Or maybe it was the Air from the Heavens and the Blood from the Earth, can't remember. But there was an old idea that we are made up by both good and evil forces, thus giving us the option to chose. Only I think it's all one in the same, and when I was working with spirits directly, I noticed they act as a reflection of ones own energy. So total understanding and no fear will make all spirits loving and nice, or at least approachable.
But as I said in that definition, we ourselves can not be good or evil, we can only do good and evil, thus we are always changing.
I feel Marlow had it right: "We are Hell and Hell is wherever we are." [paraphrasing.]
As to Hitler; I don't feel he was a demon anymore than you, me or Steve McQueen.
He was a despot, with Macheavellian intent.
What compells Impulse, what weekens a person to act upon obsessions? Society says if it makes you happy, then do it." Yet "dont do it to others that do not consent."
After the fact, when the blood is pooling, and the rush is gone..
De Sade has quotes that fit right in with this thread. I await its progress.
The metaphor of demons is abused by those who wish to ignore the potential for extreme behavior flaws. As in Mansons case, a product of a system (a ward of state), neglected child.. institionalized.. society fails.. so insteed of excepting that even those in church (Roldolph the Fundimentalist bomber) can be compelled to impulsive behavior.. how easy it is to say, he was possessed by agents of "Satan".
To me it seems all a matter of the individual and their free will. Everyone has a balance of inherit "good" and "evil" within them, choosing what to do it up to the person.
Being a witch, I dont believe in a single entity that encompasses all that is "evil" such as Satan. I believe that we choose what it is that we want to do with our lives. I am responsible for the choices I make, im not gonna blame it off on some mythical demon( in my case) when the blame lies with myself.
However I do believe in the essences of spirits and energy flow on this earth. Now if they some are malicious in nature or if they are good, I myself have no idea how that process would work. I am not a spirit therefore I have no idea. I can only speak for myself because I know only myself.
I believe there are darker forces at work all around us every day. I also believe that they manifest in the space of those who encourage them. I think that you can get hurt by them if you are not careful. As for myself, being dark comes out in writing and research. I don't portray being dark outwardly. I do like to read up on it and learn about it as much as I can.
I think that we create our own demons. Through adddicting habits as drinking and drugs.
I think as we get more and more dependant people will do anything to get that last high. I think then the demon begins to grow and we start to live our own hell by being dependant.
Above is just an example.
Everyone has their own demons.
My personal demons are the things I have to worry about, wish I was able to relax but can't, I can't even sleep well.
I think something that is truly Evil doesn't KNOW it is evil, or doesn't care that it is malevolent. Perception definitely plays a role in this.
who are we as people(or any branch of humanity u align yourself with) to decide on what evil is? Everyones perspective is different so "evil" or "good" are baseless meaningless words
In my opinion...I have always felt we all have our demons to deal with in our lifetime. I have considered "demons" to be what ever "haunts" our thoughts. Whether it be an addiction, a vice, a bad habit, a bad memory,...what ever intrudes on our thoughts and lives that we consider unwanted.
I saw a movie about Marilyn Monroe once, in which Arthur Miller's character says something like "You face more demons in one day than most people do in a lifetime". I think that pretty much sums it up.
Its true I dont belive there are demons walking umung us, however I belive we are influenced by them every day. Our thoughts, and sometimes our actions could be swayed by demonic presence. Yes, there are possesions, but in areas like hitler, if he didnt have his government and followers he would have just been some other crazy bum.
I do not believe in demons or demonic possession any more. So easy to use these labels to excuse peoples behaviour or illness
I could if I allow it, become a monster, demon...of course I have morals and compassion and that dam conscience of mine..GRaaa!
Evil is a very human trait that we attempt to excuse by blaming demons.
Demons are myth, smoke and mirrors. They are supernatural evil created through superstition to explain why bad things happen to good people.
And as stated several times, we all have our personal demons, figments of our imaginations that help us to define our fears.
No, Hitler wasn't a demon. Nor was Stalin, nor Mao, nor Bundy, nor Manson. Sometimes humans can be worse than demons.
Just proves that Satan gets much more credit than he deserves.
The question of Demons. I guess if you think about it, it's all really a matter of perspective. It's the saying "one mans freedom fighter another man's terrorist". It's all how you look at the situation and how many shades of gray are in it. I mean for every situation out there you can't really paint it as black or white...right or wrong. It all depends on the little details and which side of the situation your on.
I think there is nothing a Demon could do to humanity, that humanity either hasn't already done or won't do better than anything the Demon thought up.
So if there are Demons out there I suspect they are human....
