While surfing around on the web during my bored to death moment tonight, I found an interesting article.
I lived in Moberly for many years and never heard any thing about this.
I would like to know what you think of this or if any one has any further information pertaining to this subject.
The article is as follows....
Epigraphic societies, which exist all over the U.S usually publish and maintain esoteric historical records cataloguing such things as ancient writing, ancient monuments and ancient artifacts of the geographical area.
That being the case, why is the Midwestern Epigraphic Society apparently engaged in suppressing the most important information about a sensational Moberly, Missouri coal mine discovery in 1885?
It happened on the pages of the April 9, 1885 edition of The New York Times in a story entitled: “Missouri’s buried city: A strange discovery in a coal mine near Moberly.” Moberly, the largest city in Randolph County, had a population of 6,108 in the 1880s.
Coal miners, sinking a shaft 360 feet deep, broke into a cavern revealing “a wonderful buried city,” the article claimed. Lava arches stretched across the roof of the cavern, looming over the streets of an ancient city “which are regularly laid out and enclosed by walls of stone, which is cut and dressed in a fairly good, although rude style of masonry.”
Workers, along with Moberly city recorder David Coates and Moberly city marshal George Keating, inspected the site, found a 30-by-100-feet hall in the cavern filled with stone benches and hand tools.
“Further search disclosed statues and images made of a composition closely resembling bronze, lacking luster,” the article read.
Explorers discovered a stone fountain in a wide court, still pouring “perfectly pure water” into its basin. But it was what lay beside the fountain that interested the people exploring the site.
“Lying beside the foundation (of the fountain) were portions of the skeleton of a human being,” according to the article. “The bones of the leg measured, the femur four and one-half feet, the tibia four feet and three inches, showing that when alive the figure was three times the size of an ordinary man, and possessed of a wonderful muscular power and quickness.”
Its skull, the story reported, was shattered; bronze tools, granite hammers, metallic saws and flint knives were scattered all around. “They are not so highly polished, nor so accurately made as those now finished by our best mechanics, but they show skill and an evidence of an advanced civilization that are very wonderful,” according to the article.
Explorers spent 12 hours in the buried city and resurfaced only after the oil in their lamps burned low.
“No end to the wonders of the discovery was reached,” the article stated. “A further extended search will be made in a day or two.”
No record of the extended search could be found.
Sounds to me like the explorers found one of the many entrances to Agharta. the city that is at the center of the earth, with residences all over the place on the way down there.
Much like the forest that was found inside the volcano that was mentioned on yahoo a few months back.
This is a digital map of the place:

Wow, that is really neat. I want to go see it. Too bad it isn't set up for visitors. Maybe someday. And I will go check out that map too, mentioned above.
Will have to go do a search on google now. Ha.
This is just the beginning. We are slowly revealing more and more of our wondrous world. Hopefully some more information will be revealed in time.
sounds like a viking settlement to me alot of ppl dont want to admit that vikings were in ammerica befor others that is why they did not investagate thus it would throw the coloinal time line off
I have heard of the Moberly site and had also heard that someone had investigated the story finding there was nothing to it.In order to avoid embarrassment, the newspapers didnt say anything more about it.
But it does make one wonder.Nice thread.
They said they found giants there too.If so,how would they fit into the whole middle earth thing? The skeleton that was supposedly found was like 15 feet tall? Not exactly practical in cave dwelling.

I found the same article you did about the Moberly area, and there was more written, that wasn't in your post.
Here is the rest:
"No record of the extended search could be found.
Dr. Tom Spencer, a professor in the department of History, Humanities, Philosophy and Political Science at Northwest Missouri State University, said that’s because after printing the story, the newspapers tried to forget it.
“A lot of the time I think these stories were written based entirely off hearsay and little or no direct on-site reporting,” he said. “As the story grew, the details got more and more outrageous.”
He equates it to a childhood game where children sit in a circle and one child whispers a story into another’s ear and by the time the story completes the circle, it was completely different.
“The point of this exercise was to try to see what would happen when the story had made it all the way around the circle,” he said. “If you recall, sometimes the ‘finished story’ bore little resemblance to the original story. My guess is one element of this story is factual – like the strange shaft formation or a long femur was found – and it became more and more embellished as it went around the journalistic circle at the time.”
So what happened to the fabulous buried city under Moberly, Mo.?
“There were stories like this periodically at the time and they usually disappear quietly because someone goes to investigate and there’s nothing to it,” Spencer said. “In order to avoid the embarrassment the newspapers just don’t say anything else about it.”

How would giants fit into the whole middle earth thing, oceanne? Easy, Thule was a great place back around 10,000 years ago or somewhere along the lines of being a Neighbor to Atlantis. Thule was estimated to be in or around Antarctica. The race that lived on the continent of Thule were the Hyperboreans, they were allegedly a superhuman race, tall and in excellent physical condition with blonde hair and blue eyes.
Since Argartha is supposed to be an invisible world, not seen by the naked eye, more for those of the 4th through 7th dimensional awareness capabilities. After Thule was destroyed, the Hyperboreans could have migrated toward Argartha and since the Hyperboreans were rumoured to have become very highly evolved over thousands of years, they became transparent beings and thus would have been a perfect fit for the fabled Argartha/Shangri-La.
Since entrances surround the entirety of the planet, I do not see why there wouldn't be one or more near either polar caps. Thus a typical highway for those of ancient civilizations.
This theory may possibly explain the Mayan disappearance as well.
This is a video of Phil Schneider speaking in 1996 about underground cities. He helped build them for the military, but then he also discovered there were cities already built when they reached more then 20 miles deep below the surface of the Earth.

He was murdered shortly after giving this speech.
Let's not forget about Mu
Mu is the name of a hypothetical continent that allegedly existed in one of Earth's oceans, but disappeared at the dawn of human history.
The concept and the name were proposed by 19th century traveler and writer Augustus Le Plongeon, who claimed that several ancient civilizations, such as those of Egypt and Mesoamerica, were created by refugees from Mu — which he located in the Atlantic Ocean.[1] This concept was popularized and expanded by James Churchward (1851–1936), who asserted that Mu was once located in the Pacific.[2]
The existence of Mu was disputed already in Le Plongeon's time. Today, some scientists dismiss the concept of Mu (and of other lost continents like Lemuria) as physically impossible, since a continent can neither sink nor be destroyed by any conceivable catastrophe, especially not in the short period of time required by this premise.[3][4] Moreover, the weight of all archaeological, linguistic and genetic evidence is contrary to the claim that the ancient civilizations of the New and Old Worlds stemmed from a common ancestral civilization.[

Thank you ~psi~ for making Mu known to the audience, this gives me the privilage to present a .pdf article of a theoritical history relating to the inner Earth, and the journey thereof.
The article specified above is: here for your viewing pleasure.
Though it is a bit of a read, it describes what my post is pertaining to.
To give the audience a better description of what we are talking about when it comes to the old earth and the speculated shape that it was in during the time of Lemuria, Atlantis, Mu, etc.
Here is a map of the world as according to theory:

If the image does not work, please visit: here for more specifics.
Yes,I remember the Lemurians,Mu ..Mt.Shasta etc..
But I also remember that the Rockies where about 7 to 9000 feet taller way back when.My point is,even though we might find cities buried ..quite deeply sometimes,it doesnt always mean they were built underground.
Not trying to be argumentative here but I feel it is important that when looking at things like buried cities and the like, we take into account that such burials happen rather often. Key factors would be location, tectonics and the rise and fall of global sea levels. As well as weather.(erosion, sinkholes etc...)
ive heard that an active society exits within mount shasta california.
they are still digging up old cities who knows one day they may dig up one of our cities in the future
wow, I lived close to moberly for 31 years, never heard anything about this, very kewl to hear about, thanks
Yes Catseye,Mt.Shasta, which is part of the Cascade is a stratovolcano .The stories about the place are rampant, and it truely is an amazing place. But as far as any Lurmerians left there? They say there are,but Who knows.
"ive heard that an active society exits within mount shasta california."
