Illuminati (plural of Latin illuminatus, "enlightened") is a name that refers to several groups, both historical and modern, and both real and fictitious. Historically, it refers specifically to the Bavarian Illuminati, an Enlightenment-era secret society founded on May 1, 1776. Some writers, such as Augustin Barruel and John Robison, even claimed that the Illuminati were behind the French Revolution, a claim that Jean-Joseph Mounier dismissed in his 1801 book On the Influence Attributed to Philosophers, Free-Masons, and to the Illuminati on the Revolution of France.

The group's adherents were given the name "Illuminati", although they called themselves "Perfectibilists". The group has also been called the Illuminati Order and the Bavarian Illuminati, and the movement itself has been referred to as Illuminism (after illuminism). In 1777, Karl Theodor became ruler of Bavaria. He was a proponent of Enlightened Despotism and, in 1784, his government banned all secret societies, including the Illuminati.

During the period when the Illuminati was legally allowed to operate, many influential intellectuals and progressive politicians counted themselves as members, including Ferdinand of Brunswick and the diplomat Xavier von Zwack, who was number two in the operation and was found with much of the group's documentation when his home was searched. Writers such as Mark Dice, David Icke, Ryan Burke, Jüri Lina and Morgan Gricar, have argued that the Bavarian Illuminati survived, possibly to this day. Many of these theories propose that world events are being controlled and manipulated by a secret society calling itself the Illuminati. Conspiracy theorists have claimed that many notable people were or are members of the Illuminati, including Winston Churchill, the Bush family, Barack Obama, the Rothschild family, David Rockefeller and Zbigniew Brzezinski.

In addition to the shadowy and secret organization, several modern fraternal groups claim to be the "heirs" of the Bavarian Illuminati and have openly used the name "Illuminati" in founding their own rites. Excellent, the historical background provided is very concise. Many who claim to have studied about the Illuminati never know that there was once a real organization that used the title.
I do not find it neccessary to rehash, over and over again, the historical aspect of the order however. I prefer to engage any who read this thread to instead, debate whether or not this or any other "Secret" organization exist today. If so, in what manner to you believe them to operate? Where do they operate? Meaning, do you believe them to be global in nature, or involved more in a single country or continent. Depending on your answer, how far reaching do you believe their influence to be?
Do you believe them to be involved in a clandestine plan to manipulate governments, societies, and individuals to accomplish a specific goal? If so, what do you propose that goal is? Speculation is a must here, given the nature of the subject matter. That is unless there is one of them here, and we can get them to come forward and divulge his secrets. Unlikely? I believe so. DO you believe them to be involved in our own government? And if so, who do you feel those members are? Throw names out there, let's see who comes out in the wash so to speak. How many will call out the same individuals. And I urge all of you to seriously consider those names before tossing them out there. Not because you have anything to fear, but because I want you to offer a reasoning as to why you chose the people you did.

As for whether or not people can keep secrets to the extent that a secret society such as the one we speak of could truly exist and operate behind the scenes, I say this is an emphatic yes. For decades, certain particular religious orders have operated under those very standards. And while some over the years have released certain portains of base information about themselves, their proposed beliefs, and practices. For the most part they remain a secret and in most cases fraternal order. I shall name a few:

The O.T.O.
The Temple of Set
The Church of Satan
B.O.T.A.
The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn
The Freemasons

And their are many others. Some may try to put forth arguments that groups like the Golden Dawn have gone public, this is not entirely true. They did choose to publish the works that guide people through the initiation processes for the outer circle levels of the order. But all of their inner workings and knowledge has to this day remained hidden. When there is mutual benefit and prosperity involved there is little that will cause them to turn on their brothers.. And besides, since they leave with no actual doccuments, any professed knowledge would be unsubstantiated, and they would wind up looking like delusional attention seekers.
If you have a conspiracy theory, I urge you to put it forth. Or at the very least use the example I provided and expound upon that. Just assume you believe the Illuminati are in fact real, and then answer the questions I put to the whole of the forum.

I am too actually. I have talk about this with many people and have gotten a lot of feed back, but not here for some reason....

There are so many versions of what they are. Most refer back to the group mentioned and copyrcats of it, but I think the title is somewhat generic and goes back much farther but wasn't known as this one you cite was.

I don't know, most people I know who are really into the occult know of the Illuminati. Whether they have gone into all the historical details is debateable because there are many beliefs about it. I cannot cite specific places on the net or in a book because what I know about it didn't come from any of these places exactly. I know Robert Anton Wilson wrote about them very tongue in cheek but he told me that was so they wouldn't bother him more or less. It wasn't the Satanists or any of the Magickal groups. It was a conspiracy theory but as to whether true I think that is a matter of belief really. I know or was told that the real group does not refer to themselves as the Illuminati and it is a small group that influences many. Most do not know they are being influenced.

Even the John Birch society wrote about them in their pamphlets. There are so many from what I understand that claim this title that it has become a smoke screen for real activities. I cannot remember any longer what they call themselves but if my memory serves it was merely "The Society". I think they exist but I don't like to bring religion into it and especially not the one that is always brought up. It really has nothing to do with that directly. It's interesting though and I wouldn't attach too much significance to anything about any group using that name that is very public. These groups, from my knowledge, are a laughable ruse to hide what is really going on and quite frankly I don't think anything that significant to the average person. Can I elaborate, not really because it wouldn't be believed anyway and I am not sure I believe it myself. A group I was in that was not political or religious in any way was set up to keep an eye out. I no longer connect with them. I am sure there are many others in the occult/metaphysical community that think they are in the know on this topic, but in my experience, it still boils down to rumor, innuendo and who thinks they are on the top of the heap.

I have been a researcher and historian of this as well as other societies that the public thinks are secret, just because they have not heard of them or the societies keep a bit on the quiet side regarding their actions. Remember, everything is a secret or arcane until one or many learns about it's existance and or studies it.

It is just everywhere, you cannot simply point because it has taken every seat in power in order to make a full overview of what is Illuminati is simply a chain of individuals with a designated purpose. You would have to be a monster to actually beat something of this nature. If you rally wish to see what's going on you will have to get your hands on history mostly western and American, understand the wars and fines, understand the psychology behind the US entering in many of them, and what they get out of it; statigical sciences and even contrast the scientific boom with 60 years ago or more, understand Roman political and visions of that era and project the chain of events along the whole timeline along the way.

I believe secret societies do exist in our socities throughout the globe secretly try to manipulate everything from politics to the evoloution of our technology but as for the question are sects such as the Illuminati, Opus Dei etc really secret I'm not sure as everyone seems to know about them, even if it's just casually. Unless of course there's a conspiracy going on behind them, which I wouldn't be surprised.

I have no doubts that that website is being monitored. That being said, it still remains a great source for information. Of course, anything you read on there must be researched and backed up by evidence but keep in mind, it is the one place on the internet where the majority of members are trying to prove that not all is what it seems.

Here is how the secret clubs work and why.

In Europe you have to bid for contracts on building work/medicare/road or energy projects etc and the EU commission etc make sure it is fair by sealed bids so the best offer gets the contract.

That is the theory.In practice the secret clubs sit down in London over luncheon and discuss who will get the next contract. They co-ordinate the amounts in their sealed bids and so ensure good profits all round.
