There has been a string of poor rates going around VR.
Many people I have spoken to have an eye for an eye mentality regarding the rating system.

They rated me poorly so I'm gonna return the favor.

Now on an individual basis I agree all is fair in love and war but what about when pride and loyalties causes it to snow ball into covens feuding in this way... thus rating individuals at the group level?? My question is do you think it is fair and should members be allowed to negatively gang rate a profile based on no other reason than the coven they are in... or a dislike over ideologies from the people within a coven.

Now I'll tell you from the start that I along with a few others find ourselves within this very situation.
We have been caught up in a firestorm of Hate Rates that have nothing to do with us or our profiles. We have been rated a 1 repeatedly because of and I quote: "guilty by association." A general dislike of my coven and or the ideologies of that coven.
I'm not sure how it started or where it started but it has grown beyond the individual and has become a flat out rate war... leaving a field of decimated profiles and lost levels.
Now I'm gonna go out on a limb here but I'm willing to say that I don't really think this is what Cancer had in mind when he adopted the profile rating system.

What are your thoughts??

Sometimes when people hear of a friend being rated 'poorly', they all gather together to go rate that person a 1 as a 'team' to stickup for their 'buddy'. That's totally fine. What isn't fine is all the browbeating that accompanies it. Some people don't leave a rate and move on, they keep overflowing a single member's inbox trying to force them into changing their rate. You can't force anyone into rating you what you want. Cancer doesn't do it, you won't either.

After going rounds today with someone, they kept going back to thinking I am saying they are in 'trouble' for rating a 1 and that I am picking on them because people are rating them 1s as well. That's not what is going on here. Everyone can rate as they see fit, ratings are subjective. It's not the rate, it is the harassing messages that are going along with it from numerous people at a time upon one person. Some people 'get it', some people don't. I hope most people can read this message and see the point clearly. Be mature. Place your rates and move along.

i rate 5 if they dont have a profileadn let them know will re rate after they do have a profile
usually a 9 or 10 depending on if full of quizzes

I see where Sev is going with this...should a coven be allowed to get away with what is commonly known on VR as "downrating" or revenge rating, deliberately giving a 1 simply because your coven doesn't like their coven? Should an entire group of people be allowed to destroy one person's rating score because they said something, or put something on their pro, that one person in that group didn't like, so now "it's on"? I agree with him because downrating doesn't usually stop there, it ends up in a flame war, and can get ugly. You end up with needlessly hurt feelings, and petty bickering. VR is better than that.

And I use the full spectrum of numbers when rating, if they apply. But any profile with a clear amount of effort automatically gets a ten, because who am I to say it's not awesome?

The rating system is as is. All numbers are valid rates. No one will ever be able to control what others rate a profile despite the reasons they rate as they do. If anyone feels victim of a low rate for unknown reasons or reasons as stated in above first post, do not feel to alone as I can bet that most everyone on VR has had the same happen to them.
