Copy pasta-ing a thread I had made about two years ago, because this forum needs less sucky topics.
''The term Rosicrucian (symbol: the Rose Cross) describes a secret society of mystics, allegedly formed in late mediaeval Germany, holding a doctrine "built on esoteric truths of the ancient past", which, "concealed from the average man, provide insight into nature, the physical universe and the spiritual realm. "
In later centuries many masonic and occult societies have claimed to derive their doctrines, in whole or in part, from the original Rosicrucians.
Between 1607 and 1616, two anonymous manifestos were published, first in Germany and later throughout Europe. These were Fama Fraternitatis RC (The Fame of the Brotherhood of RC) and Confessio Fraternitatis (The Confession of the Brotherhood of RC). The influence of these documents, presenting a "most laudable Order" of mystic-philosopher-doctors and promoting a "Universal Reformation of Mankind", gave rise to an enthusiasm called by its historian Dame Frances Yates the "Rosicrucian Enlightenment".
Several modern societies, which date the beginning of the Order to earlier centuries, have been formed for the study of Rosicrucianism and allied subjects. However, many researchers on the history of Rosicrucianism argue that modern Rosicrucianists are in no sense directly linked to any real society of the early 17th century.''
The above article was taken from wikipedia.
I'm wondering what any of you know of the Rosicrucians?
Also, as it says they were a society of mystics, what do you believe they learned and studied and believed as a society? Or as a matter of fact, taught to new members?
This order still exists today; If given the chance to study with the members, would you?
What do you believe?
Also ... some other things you might fine interesting which have to do with them.
Zanoni is a tale of love and enlightenment among the immortal Rosicrucians, written by Edward Bulwer Lytton.
In the Pronaos of the Temple of Wisdom by Franz Hartmann, is the history, secret powers, and doctrine of the 'true' Rosicrucians.
The Real History of the Rosicrucians by Arthur Edward Waite is the complete text of all of the key Rosicrucian documents, including the Fama, Confessio, and the Chemical Wedding, and extensive historical background on the elusive group.
These, among others on the subject can be found at Sub Rosa at sacred-texts.com.
I don't know a whole lot about the Rosacrutions but they have a fabulous Egyptian museum and observatory in San Jose, California. It is one of my favorite places in the world to go. I keep meaning to learn more. This is a great post. Thanks
I knew a friend of mine who belonged to a Rosicrucian Order. They are mystics as described in your post, and I've also heard they study Alchemy, The Kabalah, Theurgy and Hermeticism.
Had one of their books back in the seventies. Read every page of it. One of the first few books available that taught about the energy ball and astral projection.
I happen to know a great deal of the Rosicrucians.
The order was officially begun by a man named John Dee, who was a mystic and astrologer who foretold the coronation of queen Elizabeth. The order was to assemble, record, and practice all of the mystic arts known at the time in order to prevent religious prosecution from removing the wisdom from history.
The were, essentially, the prototype for later centuries' Hermetic orders.
An interesting fact, William Shakespeare was actually one of the earliest members, along with other influential political, scientific, and artistic minds of the day. The play "The Tempest" is an allegorical map pointing one to the lost kingdom of Avalon and the resting place of Merlin.
alot of the secret societys claim to be ancient but they all seem to have started from one or two proto societys in the late 17th centuary.
What I know about them:
They have (as mentioned above) a headquarters in San Jose CA which is open to the public, for a price, and built to in the ancient Egyptian style. Inside there is an extensive museum of ancient Egyptian artifacts including full size statues and curiosities. The grounds are themselves a garden of delights following the Egyptian theme.
That the Ancient Mystical Order of Rosecrutions (AMORC) operates a home study course, and has advertised in SciFi and other pulp fiction magazines at least since the 1950s.
That they had an impact on the development of the Golden Dawn near the turn of the 20th ce. in the UK. This organization made use of Rosecrution philosophy and iconography. Some of the members were Authur Edward Waite, Authur Conan Doyle, Edward Yeats, Dion Fortune.
Gerald Gardner, who reinvented witchcraft in the 1930s, is said to have been involved with the Rosecrution Theatre where he met someone who assisted him in learning about witchcraft in the UK.
I am one of those crazy yard sale ladies. I go just to see if they have any cool books.
Well, I have in my hands right now an original first edition copyrighted 1930 by AMORC, "Mansions of the Soul the Cosmic Conception" by H. Spencer Lewis.
Rosicrucian Library Volume No. 11
San Jose, California
Rosicrucian Press
Printing and Publishing Department
AMORC college.
I think I picked it up for a buck.
One such thing towards the end of the book that I find interesting especially since I do a lot of paranormal research and ghost hunting is the questions and answers they have.
One such question is on page 331 stating, "Is it true that in the so-called spiritualistic seances held in darkened rooms, that the Souls of departed persons return to earth and clothe themselves with a material form of such a nature that no physiological difference can be found between these materialized Souls and an actual, earthly, physical body?"
And the answer on page 332 states, "It is an absolute fact that the Soul of an individual does not return to earth except to reincarnate again, and therefore, does not float around in space and visit seance rooms, or psychic laboratories or research circles at any time. It is also an absolute fact that the Soul cannot take on mortality, or a physical body, except through incarnation in a physical body in the form of an infant. To explain what apparently takes place would require a large volume. It is possible for the consciousness of a departed Soul to project its mentality into a distant place on earth, just as the consciousness or mentality of a person living on earth can project itself to a distant point and make itself sensed by those who may be properly attuned to receive such impressions. But this is not a projection of the Soul, as the students of spiritualistic phenomena claim through their misunderstanding of the real principles involved. I do not mean to say that certain things do not occur in a seance room, which will give the impression of a materialized Soul, but I do mean to say that it is not what they believe it to be and, therefore, not what they claim it to be. The Soul does not materialize itself, and it does not become clothed with a physical form except through incarnation."
Interesting.
I have a hard time getting past "Absolute fact." Substantiation, please.
Interesting topic. I have been many time to the Rosicrucian museum in San Jose, (45 minutes away) and yes, is a fascinating place. The believe of the order can be compared with The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.
