My personal accepted definition of vampire is..
I personally subscribe to _______. (personal belief/collective here....NOT magazines)
I feel what makes me a vampire is..
This is not a thread to dispute the post of others, or the ideal they align/subscribe to.
Note to Dominars please delete any cross posts.
My personal accepted definition of vampire is.. someone who feeds off of others [[be it psychic, sexual, sang, whatever]] for sustenance rather than enjoyment.
I personally subscribe to "I Wish I Was A Vampire magazine."
I feel what makes me a vampire is.. well, I don't feel that I'm a vampire. I just enjoy vampiric activities.
My personal accepted definition of vampire is.. Someone who is able to feed on the life energy of others one way or another and is strengthened by said energy.
I personally subscribe to...no magazines whatsoever.
I feel what makes me a vampire is.. that would be telling now wouldn't it, you won't get me that easily Dabbler.
on a side note, is there really a magazine called "I Wish I Was A Vampire"?
I know things I can't explan.I dont subcribe to any magizine. I have always liked vampire stuff, but being here I've learning I'm ok with what I am a bloody vampire. There I said it I'm a vampire.
Thank you Pagan, By Subscribe I mean what collective do you align with.
surely a person has a model they adopt, I find it highly irrational to just pull the idea out of thin air, and have noting to base a conviction on.
My personal accepted definition of vampire is:
Vam"pire (?), n. [F. vampire (cf. It. vampiro, G. & D. vampir), fr. Servian vampir.] [Written also vampyre.]
1. A blood-sucking ghost; a soul of a dead person superstitiously believed to come from the grave and wander about by night sucking the blood of persons asleep, thus causing their death. This superstition is now prevalent in parts of Eastern Europe, and was especially current in Hungary about the year 1730.
2. Fig.: One who lives by preying on others; an extortioner; a bloodsucker.
3. (Zoöl.) Either one of two or more species of South American blood-sucking bats belonging to the genera Desmodus and Diphylla. These bats are destitute of molar teeth, but have strong, sharp cutting incisors with which they make punctured wounds from which they suck the blood of horses, cattle, and other animals, as well as man, chiefly during sleep. They have a caecal appendage to the stomach, in which the blood with which they gorge themselves is stored.
4. (Zoöl.) Any one of several species of harmless tropical American bats of the genus Vampyrus, especially V. spectrum. These bats feed upon insects and fruit, but were formerly erroneously supposed to suck the blood of man and animals. Called also false vampire. Vampire bat (Zoöl.), a vampire, Vampyrus spectrum
I personally subscribe to: The beliefs that I have searched for and found through my own personal study.
I feel what makes me a vampire is: Nope, I'm no vampire. Nor, would I ever want to be.
@FateUnseen
No, but I wish there was! xD
@Pagan
You know, that does make more sense than asking about magazine subscriptions. I wasn't sure what he meant, so I decided to go with a "humourous" answer.
Also, what do you consider a "Hollywood" vampire as compared to a "real" vampire? Are you referring to the romanticized nature of vampirism via Hollywood or something else?
Also, as a side note, based on those definitions I suppose I could be a vampire. My ex-boyfriend's mother once referred to me as a "blood sucking extortionist whore." That counts, right? xD
VampiraDracul - I meant the glittery glamorous vampires from popular culture which I do not subscribe to.
yes but why should the hollywood vampires have all the fun
@Pagan
Ah, Twilight. Personally I wouldn't consider Twilight vampires Hollywood vampires, necessarily. They're an entire genre of vampire in &&of themselves. Lestat, Akasha, Blade, Selene...those I would consider Hollywood Vampires. More similar to traditional vampires, but in a romanticized light.
i would agree that it is more of a less traditional view of vampires and I would extend that bubble of fictional vampires who don't really personify the Hollywood standard to any story about vampiric monsters created in labs
when i first saw this thread i thought you were selling yourself again XD
You know, I'm trying to think of a movie that has portrayed vamps in that light.
"1. A blood-sucking ghost; a soul of a dead person superstitiously believed to come from the grave and wander about by night sucking the blood of persons asleep, thus causing their death. A GHOST....hmmm...
Dab I noticed that you yourself have yet to make an entry on what you subscribe to. ;) lol
I personal don't think it is any great secret what I believe in but for those that don't know me... I am Asetian thus I believe, preach, and practice the Ancient Egyptian Alteration Cosmology on Vampirism.
"surely a person has a model they adopt, I find it highly irrational to just pull the idea out of thin air, and have noting to base a conviction on."
I don't know dabbler. I personally believe that vampires are labeled by other's belief and not theirown. I Myself do not prescribe to any "one" model or belief system. Ofcourse I do not consider Myself a vampire either so I guess that goes "hand in hand" so to speak. I prefer to remain undefined and unrestricted by the limits of such models. Something I have found the Occult world tends to share with the Scientific world. We limit ideas through rigid labels and definitions. A Vampire is this and not that. A Werewolf can do this and not that. Ect, ect, ect, ect... Blah, blah, blah. I prefer to remain undefined and unrestrained and so My personal views and beliefs of Vampires are undefined and unrestrained. A Vampire is simply a Predator.
Jamie, if you go to the click-able "What Is A Vampire?" in the main menu on this site, that is the definition of a vampire.
People want to remain undefined and unlabeled. Well, that's just too bad, you cannot escape the fact that we are ALL human beings. That in itself is the one label that cannot be denied no matter how you align yourself.
Vampire, werewolf or any other label. You are human first and foremost.
Even that is a shame... We limit what it is to be human... Put standards and values... segregate into sub categories with ethnicity and religions... Trying to put everything into nice neat little boxes things that never should... claiming this is real and that is not... Ashame...
That is true Orc yet, nature itself starts the defining of who is who by male and female.
Limits are then set. If you are born male, you will never give birth to another human life.
Orc,
If people want acceptance then is it not their responsibility to educate?
dabbler... It all depends on who is educating who on what. Even Hassan ibn Sabbah believed in education, and the early Catholic Church, look what their education did to others. Education is fine... aslong as it is done correctly... Or else we may end up in a world similar to "Fahrenheit 451" and "1984."
So in those who want to ID as Vamps want their cake, but want to eat it as well. They want to appear all mysterious, and "In the know" when in fact they are without a clue, and further more convoluted in their own ranks.
I personal find Upirs research to summarize the matter very well.
I am becoming less of a skeptic, and more of a cynic with all the rest.
All they want to do is cry about how no one accepts them, and that is a tell tale sign of a fad, or trend.
It all fails to impress me, or anyone with a reasonable degree of
self respect.
*Laughs* dabbler ... to be honest ... I agree with alot of that ... And love Upir's research. I just feel that some ideas are not meant to be rigidly defined. *Laughs*
There are already those who have defined their ideals, there are examples of
that in the articles located in the data base, so here I offer a chance for people to represent that which the most feel represents them, the ideal that
convinced them personally.
Yet I get flak..
So I suspect my theory is correct.
Such a desperate bunch are those who
ID as vampires to be accepted, yet they want to appear to be mysterious, and " in the know". Bah!
If I came to this site exclusively to learn about " real vampires", rather then the goth them. I would have left by now.
I subscribe to my own beliefs
What makes me a vampire is my heightened senses, my birth right, my sense of emotion, my need for a higher form of energy, my true age vs. my physical age, and my soul.
i believe people enjoy calling themselves vampires or pretending to be one because it gives them the feeling of importance, and would want to fight the thought that vampires dont exist so that they can stay inside the realm of being one. They wont come out with evidence probably for two reasons:
1. There isn't any that a regular human cannot imitate.
2. being open doesn't fit the persona they have adopted.
let the dreamers dream, says i, especially if it keeps them off of street corners with knives and things. (This is why psychiatrists told Stephen King to start writing i believe XD)
The line is crossed when they start to imply that "mundane" people are so "not clued" to reality.
Egocentric people are pretty common. It's a lot easier to see the rest of the world as just being composed of morons who need to be educated than to think they might have actually come to their conclusions with sound logic.
It's not vampires job to prove their existence. That job usually goes to the church or government ....lol
"It's not vampires job to prove their existence. That job usually goes to the church or government ....lol"
As long as that is a joke, I will make no comment..
Maybe the idea of being asked constantly to stand up and defend themselves, define themselves, expose themselves or be stigmatized by others as fakes... only to find out that no matter what they say no matter what they believe or what they can prove the stigma stands because it was there from the start??
IDk you tell me why the hell some one would want to share anything with those who are only interested in proving their own view point which happens to be Vampires are fake without daring to try and define the term themselves.
That their motives are to provide the next ass chewing session on someone elses beliefs is the real goal!!
Yeah let me just jump right into that forum...
And you say we are the Egocentric dreamers. lol
Some here have their noises so high up in the air that they can't even smell the crap they are trying to pass off as objective.
TOPIC:
But Severus it is evident that even in the ranks of vampires such "BUs-Throwing" takes place. Why not be as concerned with the infighting as you are with outsiders simply asking for sources (which is what I am actually doing, I am asking for references)
Correct because the site has been invaded by role players and those who want to make fun of others.
which is why if you look you will see covens becoming focused more on being closed societies and having applications to gain entry rather than their standings.
It is an attempt to weed out those that most would rather not deal with. These kinds of things have forced most to go underground even on a site made for us.
I agree with you Severus there are many that would not know a vampire if they ran into one and got knocked down ..and their are many that are fakes. and those that have thier noses so far up in the air if it rained they would drown . LOL
This is the vary reason I respect those who are less then flamboyant with their Practice.
An olive branch Severus, for her is our level ground!
I fully intended to draw out those who phish, and perpetuate stereotypical material, and as a few posters already demonstrated, in this and the "Kids and Vampire thread" it is working.
I understand that dis-closer needs discretion to avoid whole sale "biting".
See people like me read these threads and think for a second that maybe dabbler was being honest with this topic, that maybe he really does want to know what the demographics of VR are.
Wrong!!
It was just another bashing session.
This is why most of us keep out of the main forums and stick to our society threads. It is why the main forum threads are always the same topics and the same faces posting in them.
Because most avoid them like the Plague... but not me I have the intellect and the brass to stand here and feed people their own crap back to them.
You want to make up a physiological profile on members of VR... then why not ask the question why some people who are not Vampires and don't subscribe to the Vampire believe and lifestyle are here in the first place??
Why are they making profiles??
What short coming do they have in their persona's causes them to need to express themselves in a place they don't belong??
Severus,
It is also a Goth Site.. easy.. did you just read my other post?
What is wrong with seeking to be educated?
Seems I am being attacked here, right now.. I would hope you are just being passionate with your personal beliefs Sevrus.
This is a data base as well, all i would hope for is a hint at some of the varied disciplines, and schools of thought that people are drawn to. it is not a profiling extradition.
So is it only the "Vampires" that have the authority to discriminate?
Ok far enough Dab.
See I answered the questions because I thought that it was presented with a level of honesty, But even then I was warry... even noted that you had not answered it yourself yet.
I come back a few days later and find I was right to be warry... It pissed me off and I felt taken advantage of.
That sort of thing causes people to shut down, turn off, tune out, and your education process becomes D.O.A.
BTW - Prespective time:
It's Vampire Rave not Gothic Rave.
We have Covens and houses, not fashion clubs.
The entire site is geared toward Vampires and a few of it's sub cultures, of which gothic fits.
The VR admin. take this site seriously and they haven't closed the thread.
Thus, the thread is valid for the site.
If someone doesn't like certain threads, they aren't forced to read or post in them.
As far as the site goes, it IS a vampire/goth site. However, all are welcome to join as long as they follow the site rules.
Personally, I don't care how people want to define themselves.
Honest sincere inquires are met with hostilities, I see that as against the education.
it is hard when one hears people declare they want to be accepted, and yet will not offer even general education.
Though you do make a good case why that is not practical.
Please note my intent was not conspiratorial in nature, or an attempt to mock, bash, or be abrasive to those who identify as vampires. I personal would like to know what seperates the crack pots from the sound (stable) minded individuals.
I am also curious as to some of the open organizations, and how many opt to align with those open statement organizations.
Mistake me not for a cynic, when I am a skeptic, seeking a frame of referance.
Thank you.
See dab it is not a personal attack on you, even though it always becomes a personal attack on my kin and our beliefs.
VR Quote:
Vampire Rave is the social networking website for vampires and goths. We are a home for real vampires across the globe.
Note the term: Real Vampires
The site founder claims his work first and foremost is a social network for my kind. If you stop, look, and listen to those who speak here you can find the real in the the term real vampire... We are here and we do socialize, inter act with those other that have come to the site. We share and ask that you just show the same level of respect.
It just becomes really annoying when people question and attack your believes day in and day out.
I have nothing against real debate and real questions about what I do and how I live... it is the constant lack of respect that is presented by those who are little more than visitors to my way of live that causes such anger.
If you lack base respect for what others believe in then why the frak are you here??
These types of comments really do show a serouse lack of respect and border down right disrepect for Cancer, the Admin who do the leg work to bring things together, and the Vampiric kin that come here.... we take it personnally!!
I would rather you just say not for me and move on to Myspace or Facebook, rather than try to wreck the place I and so many others call our home away from home.
