The Lhiannan-Shee of Man(scottish) is generally treated as a vampirish spirit who attaches herself to one man to who she appears irresistibly beautiful, but is invisible to everyone else. If he yields to her seduction, he is ruined body and soul.
The Irish Leanan-Sidhe is more favourably regarded as a life-giving spirit, the inspiration of poets and minstrels. Both names mean 'the fairy sweetheart'. pge 266 "An Encyclopedia of Fairies by Katharine Briggs".
And from "A Witch's Guide to Faery Folk by Elaine McCoy" it states that the Leanan-sidhe is a beautiful female vampire faery. Lore has it that like all vampires, she is a blood-sucker. But rather than drinking the blood of her victims she collects it in a huge red cauldron which is said to be the source of her beauty and powers of poetic inspiration. pge 259/260
In your opinion is she faery or is she Vampire? If in your opinion she is both, a vampiric faery, then are there other faeries who are also vampiric?
I believe fairy...although i also believe a vampiric fairy could exist.
I firmly believe she was a vampiric faerie who lived on the Isle of Man. She is the muse of poetry and lived a glorious, but short life.
A book i acquired about a year ago from the local library referred to her as both.
A Witch's Guide to Faery Folk was a very good book. I read it a few years ago and enjoyed it very much. In my opinion the Leanan-Sidhe is both. She possesses the qualities of each.
I believe a type of vampire though a hybrid one . I have often wondered if i fit in th leannan sidhe rather than succubi.. or any other type of energy feeder..as it is I feel sated when I read poetry or see art it is the only thing for the longest time that made me happy was to write or read or read poetry or art.. as you Know Mari I still write and feed off the energy of writing.. as I did when you met me, Though sexual or elemental energy I can also feed off, The only thing that can truly sate me is art and beauty.. in part that was my inital attraction to Emper_of_insomnia. his art and his wonderful mind.. And as my old mate and another good friend.. said the only thing that sates her is writing and poetry refering to a time years ago in the old lair they asked what I wanted foir a birthday present and I replied a poem or some art.. I feed through the energy of art as well as give my own energy through it.. does that make me a vampire well look at the definition of vampire, A vampire is one that feeds off energy cause we need it to live.. energy is prana or chi.. it really doesn't matter what form it is in.. when a leannan feeds off of art the person( don0r) is basically lovestruck and cannot be happy or write without their muse so a leanan is basicaly a siren vampire a type of hybrid I think cause they feed off energy from their donor. The donor is obsessed much like with succubis or reg sang or psi vamps.. my groups on yahoo are full of leannan and succubis/incubis so I think yea leannan are hybrid vampires..though really it is more feeding preference .. ann I believe all vampires can feed off of any form of energy they just have to teach their bodies to adapt..to any spefic energy

Wow great forum post i love reading about Fairys awhile ago i read up on One fairy by the name of Bukura was wicked and this bit of Info was highly interesting. Anyone know what site i can read more of this on?
Any sites where I could go to to read on this would be great.
i would have to say both because i have heard some stories of vampiric faeies
Maybe evil faery. I've heard of the Baohban-Sith, a scottish vampire. She is a woman who wears a green dress and can take the form of a bird. They were known to go into bars and pubs, put men into a trance making them dance with them for hours until he was exremely worn out. She would take him outside the bar and drink his blood.
When I become a big famous movie director (sure) I wanna make a movie about this particular vampire. No copying! lol. It's one of my favourites, thought you might all want to hear about it if you haven't already.
I say she would be Fae, but a malicious one at that. Her vampiric trait shows this. I also believe partially that she could be just an old demon that just doesn't assume traditional appearances characteristic to Hell's or the Netherworld's inhabitants (horns, bat wings, red eyes, etc) , making her especially deadly.
Almost reminds me of the Greco-Roman myth of Circe, the sorceress who lured men to her island, first offering hospitality, but soon, they turn into animals.
As with many life forms there are shades of grey.....and she would be one. She is the grey between the fae and the vampire.
Sure, I'd go with the opinion that the Leanan-Sidhe is both faerie and vampire.
Going further into rhetoric, though, one could argue what makes a vampire a vampire? If being a vampire means that she has to drink the blood of her victim in order to survive, then she wouldn't really be a vampire, since it sounds like she only needs the blood to keep up her appearance and work her magick. It seems that it wouldn't necessarily kill her if she were to go without it for some time.
i believe she is both, Rowen, and its a possibility there are more faeries that are both also but thats just my opinion.
Id say that she is both. and yet neither. honestly she sounds more like a Sukkubis with benefits.
