I see so many people presenting themselves as more experienced then others, or more gifted.
Is this not elitism?
If one is so gifted does one need to wave a banner?
Isn't it more in the way one carries oneself, and applies what they claim knowledge of?
Why do people seem to embellish alleged experiences to out do others, is it not a sharing, rather than a competition?
Personally, I see few members that I would deem qualified to declare any higher degree of knowledge in meta, or occult knowledge, or practice, however I note that they refrain from parading around.
While those who posture the most lack any indication of practical, or applicable knowledge.. also known as wisdom.
Claiming to be knowledgeable could mean reading a pamphlet, wisdom is in application.
As far as most of the testimonies of experiences, I am not impressed by 85% of the alleged experiences here, people cannot relate what they claim to have experienced, yet they expect people to flatter them as experienced.
Most people have a need to be recognized and want the attention. They feel that is they portray themselves as something else people will admire them. I believe it comes from being stuck in a society were no one is truly unique everyone is given the same public attention as everyone else and in most cases peoples lives are so busy even the ones closest to that person can over look certain needs of said individual.
I would say that it has to do with individual personalities. Some keep quiet because perhaps they don't care or perhaps they have heard the topic many times and moved on. Who is to judge this anyway? Certainly not me. Should one fill out an application to speak out? I don't know as anyone wants a pat on the back but have found this place for one, where they can talk about what they know or have experienced. When you go through these types of things one doesn't usually think it requires credentials or proofs. I am assuming you are speaking globally about the metaphysical/occult community which is a lot of random people really except those that usually are known due to books they have written or media places they have been seen. It is like science, people don't always agree and I don't think it is grandstanding to speak of experiences in a place that is set up for those who either have the interest in darker topics or have experienced them. There are bad apples in every crowd but I'm not going to point any fingers or try to figure out why. It could be a number of things. Personally I think the competitiveness comes from people who are trying to make others feel loony because they have experienced something or been involved in something beyond the norm. People tend to get defensive just as those who have alternative belief systems that deal with religion. That's my five cents.
Is just for the confort that is created in their "patalamo" when they explain to someone about their gift, and that person go: "ohh my gosh!!!!!""" you are a genius!!!
I think for many here, it is not so much about grandstanding as it is about standing up for what one believes. Some folks are just more passionate about it than others. The process and intent of community is to provide a platform wherewith each individual of that given society has a voice and their opinion counts, no matter how bizarre it may seem to the rest of the crowd. Otherwise, you have nothing more than censorship.
It could be because they are trying to impress others, and to gain a reputation for themselves to make on that they have gained true Occult knowledge in their faith.
Human beings are competitive. As cave men we had to compete to survive, it continues on to the modern age.
We are brought up in a world where all around us there are competitive situations. Competing for parents attention and affection, at school competing for good marks, and the teachers attention. Its everywhere, friendships, politics, religion, sports, advertisements that tell us we are nothing unless we are better than someone else. It is ingrained into out psyche!
So therefore when we have a moment, experience or a piece of knowledge that sets us apart the elitist attitude sets in and its our opportunity to lord it over others. Whether we intend to or not doesn't matter it appeals to that competitive nature within.
I see so many people presenting themselves as more experienced then others, or more gifted.
Its human nature to compete and impress others and been that way for centuries.
I say nobody should wave a banner saying what they have or belong to. However, society does it all the time hence the reason i do not like much of humankind. Together, society has become stupid and ignorant. Many are ignorantly stupid. Ignorant about helping others and stupid for believing in the misconceptions of the world, religions and multitude of other things
It may depend on the individual. There are many smart people that are lazy and would rather sit around than make themselves useful to the world by doing something that they are really good at. On the flipside, there are very stupid people that somehow make it to be a big shot all in due to the fact that they cheated their way to where they currently are. They don't truly know how to do what they are doing so they end up affecting others more than they think.
They are selfish, self centered bitches. They care only about themselves and care only about showing off to others than anything else. They would rather drastically stretch the truth and continue to try and compete than be honest and do the hard work themselves the hard way. They take the easy way out and cheat.
we talked of this Dabs.
some share.
some like to be etist, as you term it.
it's what people are like with knowledge, simple as.
I have been here on this site for about 6 years now, and fully agree with what you are saying. At first it wasn't this bad, but now a lot of people "think" they are gifted, or "think" they know everything. I will never claim I know everything, nor will I ever claim I know nothing. I only know what I have seen and done. While it has worked for me, it may not work for others. So I will never push it onto others.
I don't claim what I don't know I have... If I said I think I might have then that mean I am unsure... If someone claims to be something there not, or says there more then they are I call that Pooba Syndrome... as in The Grand Pooba. Some one that is saying something like... hm.. let me give this as an example. Not referring to anyone on VR.
Hi I'm Lord Dragon. I'm the Lord of my own House. I I am not a teacher, but I have students. I can summon Thor, and Freya. Becuse thats my Mother, and Father. And I'm also a Satanist, and a Buddhist, and a Druid. I know everything that Is everything For I am The Everything Dragon.
Non of that that was just said matches.. because it all conflicts with eachother... Grand Pooba syndrome
Excellent summation Demon Vamp. How many medals, and titles can a person tag themselves with before someone steps in to Inquire of them basic general knowledge of what they claim.
It is consistent that such people use a script when they venture into public venues.
It becomes clear that they are frauds with a few general questions, but so many enable them by shielding such people from scrutiny.
I personally have found that those who talk and brag the most, know the least.
Most who have that much knowledge teach it, but they never brag about it or put it on display. It is most often done on a quiet sideline.
Well states Dark Faire,
That is the application, otherwise known as wisdom.
The way people stack their alleged practices, and beliefs one has to ponder how thin they spread themselves between same.
Well, Psychologically speaking, the term that I will use will be: EGO.
